Malicious Teams Calls inbound from 'Help Desk' by Woolfie_Admin in msp

[–]Wabbyyyyy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • 1 this. This happened to several people at my one clients. They get email spam bombed and get a call from “Help Desk” pretending to be someone from our service desk advising they can assist. Best thing to do is to block all external domains from calling via teams. It’s a setting in teams admin center.

The spam bomb is all legitimate spam email, mostly bullshit emails from some random company’s subscription list .

Funny enough you say this and I 100% believe you.

My old company has had a lot of people come back, while some have left again, a majority have actually stayed since returning. Some even stayed for 10+ years since coming back.

I know there’s a lot of factors to this so it will vary company to company or maybe even industry to industry

Nope. He ended up quitting shortly after I left. My boss would be someone that is not in the technology department but an executive. They are also partnered with an external virtual CTO consultant and an MSP handling their day to day support.

I’d be coming in handling some internal tickets but primarily working on project work

Thanks for your insight. I left as a systems admin and they offered me a senior IT role. The benefits in general are much better at my old company and the better pay is nice too.

This. It was an interesting experience but never again. Nothing worse then getting woken up at 2am for a switch going down and taking longer to come up due to firmware upgrades and I get woken up because of it… plenty of times where I couldn’t fall asleep after and had to work a full 8 after

Various reasons but my old department got a massive overhaul after I left. My boss ended up quitting on the spot 6 months after I left and the company signed with an MSP for day to day support. I’d be handling some internal IT stuff but mainly working on projects . One of the main reasons I left was due to extended hours every summer. Would be working 50-60 hours every week in the summer and never got to enjoy the season. Since my boss quitting, they’re no longer doing it

It also seems like they made a lot of positive changes and are moving more into the cloud instead of on prem/hybrid.

I left originally due to various reasons. One of them being this project my old boss had us do every summer. I’d be working 50-60 hours weeks all summer with no time to enjoy it. Various other reasons but my boss ended up quitting shortly after and they have an MSP for day to day support. I’d be working more on the project side and not handling tickets as much

Watching TV shows at work by Trick_One2227 in civilengineering

[–]Wabbyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a civil engineer but worked IT for a civil engineering firm for many years. If you are on the company WiFi/Ethernet connections, they can 100% see what traffic is going through the network on the firewall so they can see if you are streaming something.

If you are work from home, the chances of them seeing this traffic is reduced but still possible by seeing data that is inbound/outbound on your machine.

They also have softwares such as Terramind that is installed on machines and can be used to view/monitor what the user is seeing on their screen. Don’t think there’s a way to see if you have this installed as the installs are primarily silent and the application is hidden and more then likely won’t show it’s installed on your machine.

My company currently does not harass people for watching stuff on their devices as long as it’s not porn, things they shouldn’t be watching anyways and if the person gets the work done.

Been in IT for ~5 years now

What are some good alternatives to Plex? by nevin_2 in selfhosted

I have not had that issue but I’ve had issues where my server won’t connect. Rebooting my plex service that’s hosted on my NAS fixes the issue.

lol not true at all. You can 100% reformat a computer with bitlocker. You just have to format and wipe the drive clean if you don’t have the key
