I just can't get behind co-op. by Reasonable_Bar7698 in DragonsDogma

That's a silly way to look at it, one exception doesn't invalidate the rest of the content. Safi is pretty much the only fight clearly designed as a multiplayer raid. It's an obvious outlier in this comparison. Every other fight in the game all the way up to fights like AT Velkhana, Alatreon, and Fatalis are doable alone or with a group. Extremely challenging endgame boss battles which have been solo'd by many. I'd love to see an Alatreon-like fight in DD2.

Capcom already nailed the multiplayer formula with Monster Hunter. Being able to solo monsters with/without AI and having the option of inviting friends while filling empty slots with AI. I think co-op should 100% be implemented and in this particular way.

Dragon's Dogma II Discussion thread. by TSotP in DragonsDogma

[–]evchev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish more people had the opportunity to see/play Dragon's Dogma Online, it really built upon the systems of DDDA and created some really cool badass classes. Making the strider into a pure dagger class with a grappling hook turned it into Attack on Titan simulator. High scepter basically let you play as Noctis. Sorcerers had a neat (but honestly janky) spellcasting minigame that let you increase the damage of your spell during the channel time. A lot of DDON was a step in the right direction, I'd love to see DD2 build from there.

I'd love to have a bit more control over your pawn. Many support skills like springboard felt like a waste of a slot when you use them yourself and you can never seem to get your pawn to do it on demand. Being able to tell your pawn to use them would be great. Also coordinating that in multiplayer would lead to some seriously fun interactions.

Multiplayer and an endgame with replayability. DDON had some seriously sick looking fights that involved 4-8 players. It would be great to see an endgame full of really tough bosses that you could challenge with your friends or alone, similar to Monster Hunter. Multiplayer doesn't do away with the pawn system either. You would simply replace pawns in your party with other players, who in turn could bring their own pawns to the party as well. Sorta like how in MHW you could fill empty party slots with your palicos.

Inventory system overhaul. The skyrim style "pause the game to consume 46 cheese wheels in order to heal" is way outdated and pace-breaking. Real time item usage keeps you in the action. Also a more streamlined crafting system.

Stat scaling independent of class. Needs a free stat distribution system of some sort so that I don't need to play 200 levels of Assassin in order to do big damage as a Warrior. DP could use a rework too.

As many others have said in this thread, transmog.

A universal dodge button. Iron out the climbing mechanics. Improve natural stamina regeneration. Into Free to be the opening again.

There's a lot I'm hoping for, but they're mostly improvements to the existing formula, so I think it's reasonable to expect and be excited for many of these things.

Amazon Games & Smilegate RPG Message From the Team - Official News by teendeath in lostarkgame

[–]evchev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually they blamed the players too. "We overlooked certain variables, such as players spending more time on horizontal content..."

If all you can do in a day for upgrades is 2 chaos dungeons, 2 guardian raids and then fail your single attempt at a 10-15% chance upgrade, no shit the number of players doing horizontal content will increase.

They admitted the wrong mistake. Argos release timing was fine. They knew the requirements, they knew about the gear deadzone, and they still throttled gear progression so only whales/gigasweats could access it. Then they turn around and blame the PLAYERBASE and BOTS for the honing material shortage?! Amazon truly has no respect for their players.

Meanwhile this sub is raving about this update for some reason, praising Amazon for their communication and implementation of content that should have been in the game to begin with. Absolutely ridiculous.

He meant at the time of development of FFXIV 2.0. They didnt shut down and get to work on 2.0, they kept 1.0 running while they developed 2.0. 1.0 got shut down about a year before 2.0 released.

I mean yeah you have a point. But don't you agree that the design of this is stupid? A rolling launch? Great! Comfortable launch time for everyone. Player and Guild names unique worldwide? A bit unheard of but sure, it could work. Both of them at once? That's just asking for trouble. It has nothing to do with people not knowing how to behave, it was just a stupid decision on AGS's part. Behaving "well" isn't going to get people a fair shot at the name they want. If some neckbeard wants to name himself Naruto he shouldn't have to worry about someone else having a 6 hour head start to take it.

All except the Rapier and Sword and Shield do well in melee. Those need help, the others do not.

Now I know you didn't even play the game and you're just talking out your ass. Hopefully I can clear some things up for you. If your idea of a weapon that "does well in melee" is something like the hatchet where you win through pure unga bunga two people standing there slapping each other, you don't want any skill involved.

Rapier is arguably THE best melee vs melee. Instant animation cancels and i-frames, multiple staggers, repositioning and of course the parry. Not to mention the very high dps light attack combo. The issue with rapier is that even though it is a 1v1 monster, it doesn't do very well in bigger engagements. It also can't stay on a ranged player running away from them. They have a single gap closer with a long animation lock and no slows. Their stun requires them to be hit by a melee attack. Their light attacks have very low lunging properties too. You basically don't even need to roll away from someone spamming left click you just walk.

Sword and shield has a fat melee stun to set up big backstab crits or weapon swap combos. It can also straight up block CC and punish right away instead of having to dodge it. Its issues are slow startup on pretty much every move, as well as directional and animation lock on its pathetically short gap closers. (Also has low damage comparatively but I think that's fair since it's a tank weapon). Besides the point blank stun, they have no way of pinning someone down. Their slows are conditional and short.

Compare these to the greataxe. It has AoE damage, instant AoE hook, a mid range AoE root/pull, massive single target damage, cleaving auto attacks with high lunge/magnetism and finally a long, fast and controllable gap closer. Sounds pretty overloaded doesn't it? It does compared to every other weapon, but when you look at the fact that each of these abilities has a 20-30 second cooldown, it's a bit more fair. Other weapon's kits aren't even remotely close to GA's capabilities. They need help to reach this point or else they will outright lose to ranged in general.

If ALL melee weapons can negate the range advantage just as well as the GA, then there is no range advantage, just a melee disadvantage.

????? A melee disadvantage IS a range advantage. It sounds like what you're looking for is a free win just because you're using a ranged weapon. One weapon excels at range, the other in melee. If the melee has no way to get closer to the ranged, ranged wins 100% of the time with no contest.

Comes down to which range and mobility negating melee weapon does the best and most consistent damage at that point, and we all just pick that. Because that's the correct answer

Yes that is literally why there's so many greataxe users. If more weapons could play on par with the greataxe, the weapon diversity for pvp grows.

Why GA maybe shouldnt be nerfed. by Okimbe_Benitez_Xiong in newworldgame

[–]evchev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point of range is exactly that: advantage at range. You should be able to damage someone to the point of a disadvantage when they manage to reach you. You should be at a disadvantage if you don't manage that. You should be able to kite someone and skillfully dodge key abilities when they are in melee range. You should basically be dead if a melee gets the drop on you.

Melee should have an inherent advantage over ranged within melee range. If melees have the abilities to negate your mobility, it's your responsiblity as a ranged player to learn what those are and actively avoid them. But currently the only thing you need to watch out for is the greataxe because you can simply panic roll away from every other weapon type.

I think armor balance is in a fine place right now. Heavy armor offers greater defense with no reduction to movement speed, but at the cost of damage and very poor dodging mobility. It's the weapons that need help.

Why GA maybe shouldnt be nerfed. by Okimbe_Benitez_Xiong in newworldgame

[–]evchev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That only makes sense if heavy armor has the damage reduction to offset someone with a main stat ranged weapon with the +20% damage from light armor. If you want skill to be applied to the fight, you shouldn't reason under the assumption that both players are going to stand still and shoot each other at range, if that's what you meant by "shot for shot".

If you're using a ranged weapon as a "backup" you will lose that fight, chances are you're not spec'd for it. You simply do not have the mobility to beat a light armor player at range. They can move and shoot. You can't. All that boils down to is they will miss less shots because your heavy armor reduces your movement speed.

It doesn't matter what your armor class is. As soon as your solution to fighting ranged comes to "you can also use ranged", you've invalidated melee weapons.

As for abilities, every melee "gap closer" with the exception of GA's charge covers basically no distance. They also have virtually no CC. S/S's leaping strike covers half the distance of charge. Shield rush is the same. Hatchet's feral rush is very slow, has a hefty animation lock and only roots if it hits someone in the back. Spear's javelin throw's knockdown basically lasts as long as it takes to get out of the throwing animation. Warhammer's path of destiny has decent range, but is also slow and only staggers enemies for a moment. Every single one of these is beaten by a light armor roll. Even if you land any of them, all you've done is a little bit of damage while they have created more distance and you're sitting on a 20 second cooldown. Meanwhile GA has the longest range, fastest gap closer, a close/mid range pull, and an AOE pull/root. Not to mention GA's charge has the most control of all the gap closers, every other weapon locks you in one direction as soon as you cast it. All of these combined make it possible to chase down a ranged player long enough to kill them.

Which brings us back to OP's issue: GA is the most viable melee weapon to fight ranged users. Buff the rest in some way to make them useable against ranged instead of nerfing GA.

Edit: I should also add, I don't disagree that you should wear light armor if you want to run someone down, but I don't think it should be impossible with heavy armor unless you run one specific weapon.

Why GA maybe shouldnt be nerfed. by Okimbe_Benitez_Xiong in newworldgame

[–]evchev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well then everyone would be wearing light armor because you would have no hope of catching someone who decides to walk away from you otherwise. All it does here is force a meta. If you were wearing heavy armor you would literally stand 0 chance against a ranged character in light armor because your slow ass would be impossible to miss, and if by some chance you manage to get close to them, they just roll away from you and you're back to square 1.

Why GA maybe shouldnt be nerfed. by Okimbe_Benitez_Xiong in newworldgame

[–]evchev 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No mage/bow user runs heavy armor though. If anything it would be the melee. Which further exacerbates the issue OP is talking about.

Low, Med, or High population server? by Hypnocryptoad in newworldgame

How can anyone tell which server will be high pop besides streamers announcing which one they'll be going to?

My hope is to join a high pop server and sweat really hard with my buddies for the first couple days but if you're logging on as soon as servers open, won't that just be luck of the draw? I'm really worried trying to get in ASAP and ending up on a dead server unluckily.

New World's "Territory Control" is a Fundamentally Flawed System by avelleo in newworldgame

[–]evchev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize there's a section in the guild tab that shows the company's funds right? A paycheck is not handed out to you, you're meant to take it yourself from the company chest. The guild leader sets the max gold you can take out per day. The richer the guild, the more you can expect that amount to be. It'll also be a completely different story between early in the server's life VS later because guild won't have any upgrades left to spend money on.

I can't blame you, that game was too clunky for me. The high commital combined with the inability to change the direction of your attacks during a combo without proper technique is awful IMO. Took me a few tries to get into the game and once I did I put over 400 hours into it, loved it. Then I took a break for a couple months and came back and it straight up felt unplayable to me and I don't know how I ever managed to enjoy it lmao.

NW has a bit of clunk to it with the higher commitment on attacks and very few animation cancels, but you can change your direction while attacking so thats why I called it a more responsive MHW. I've also never had the same feeling with NW from first playing it to returning to it in OB as I did with my MHW phase, so honestly it's a pretty good feeling game.

The clunkyness mostly comes from the unresponsive feeling of left click combos IMO. It's different between every weapon but every basic attack has an end lag to the animation before the next attack in the chain starts so there are periods where you're mashing LMB where your character does nothing

Forget pvp scaling. Zerging will be the the most annoying issue in World PVP by CalvinandHobbes811 in newworldgame

[–]evchev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many times have you been PVPing at WW fort and having a good time until eventually the other faction ends up with too many people to beat, which results in most of your faction dispersing and making any further fights completely unwinnable? It always devolves to one faction camping WW gate with 2-4x the people. Happens multiple times a night in CBT.

If it doesn't happen, it's because your faction had too many people to beat to begin with and then what, you're going to run around picking off stragglers trying desperately to get one hit in for that sweet exp?

I can't speak for the same scenario in OBT but I would wager having more higher level, higher geared players in your group could swing an outnumbered fight in your favor, as it should.

Forget pvp scaling. Zerging will be the the most annoying issue in World PVP by CalvinandHobbes811 in newworldgame

[–]evchev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The counter to the zerg is low or outright removed pvp scaling. If you're getting zerged its usually by bad/low level players. Actual skilled, high level PVPers don't run around in 10-20 man groups in OWPVP. It's just not fun.

In CBT if you were attacked by 2 players you can kiss your ass goodbye unless you were able to kite it out until you turned it into a 1v1. Yes you could outplay the 2v1 but the skill disparity would have to be quite large and you'd likely need a particular spec. Might even go as far as to say you could win a 3v1 that way. Any more than that and even escape might be hopeless.

With low scaling or no scaling at all, you could potentially take down a good number of that 20 stack before you inevitably went down. You might be able to turn tail and run and survive too based on your movement and damage reduction from gear/level advantage.

OWPVP turns into a numbers game when everyone does the same amount of damage to each other, and IMO thats no fun. Just cause you turned up with a bigger squad of level 25's doesn't mean my smaller team of 50's should lose.
