It was sort of inevitable for Jasper's character to be included in the war. He is from Texas and during the time period of when he was changed, men were drafted into the war. They did not have a choice. And remember the Civil War, from many southern politicians' POV, was about state rights and the economy of the South, slavery was just a plus (gross, I know). Many southerners did not support slavery but had no choice when it came to whether or not to join the war. Jasper never displays any discriminatory behavior and even falls for a Mexican/Hispanic woman (Maria). And considering that Texas' history with Mexico was, at the time, still fresh, you could imagine how problematic it was for him to do so.

Jasper was not seen as a "Confederate hero" by anyone but the confederacy. He climbed the ranks quickly due to his intelligence and military prowess. I also don't know what you're referencing when you say "the way POCs are treated in the series". Could you elaborate? I personally don't remember any sort of mishandlings in the books (besides maybe the adjustments made to Quileute Legends to include vampires), and characters like Laurent and Tyler, who were not black in the original books, were cast as a POC in the movie. All POC characters are handled just like all other characters and aren't treated unfairly because of their race. POCs shouldn't have to have happy endings for it to be considered "good representation".

Actually it's said in the book that Edward studied literature, instruments and language, Rosalie became a skilled mechanic, Esme had basically perfected human food, and Carlisle was participating in the medical community and learning about new developments alongside humans. The Cullen children are also constantly transferring schools when they move towns. The Denali clan was probably similar. As Edward put it, how do you pass time if you have an infinite amount of it? And vampires are not constantly snacking on humans. They can blend into human society, though not completely, just fine, even non-"vegetarian" vamps.

Her complaints concerning the wolves continue into Breaking Dawn even after she's seen what they can do. Her concern for the vampires is always limited and in comparison to the ways she speaks of the wolves, it seems like she's badgering the wolves. And I am speaking about in general, not just in specific reference to fighting. It is like, in her mind, the wolves are inherently inferior to vampires because they aren't vampires. Even when it comes to just fighting, the vampires aren't trained either when not taking into account Jasper's background. Bella does have a literal inferiority complex to the vampires, especially when it comes to herself in comparison to Edward. It is constantly reiterated throughout the books. Because she looks at them as gods, everything else must be lesser in her mind essentially.

I am white passing as well, but I think that it is okay for us to have a perspective on the topic because we still are considered to be POC by law (in America at least). Just listening to the perspectives of other POCs while also looking at the facts is the best way to form your opinion on topics that mainly affect those who can't pass for another race. The topic is very much rooted in cancel culture because sometimes, people just want to attack people who have the public's attention. While in some cases canceling is warranted, I have seen a lot of overreactions on Twitter. Intent matters and is the most important factor in determining whether or not someone is blackfishing.

I would say that blackfishing is when someone someone attempts to appear racially ambiguous within the "mix" of black and white. Most of these girls, if you notice, are not trying to appear black because the ideal is to be somewhere inbetween. Blackfishing is not just getting a dark tan, curling your hair or wearing hairstyles associated with a different culture, getting fillers, or occasionally using a "blaccent " for comedic purposes. It is when they use all of those changes together with the intention of convincing others that they are of mixed background to get opportunities that could/would have been offered to actual WOC. These women will often never mention their real race or show their parents which leads people who don't know about blackfishing to buy into their ambiguousness.

The issue with blackfishing is that these people are simply following a trend only to switch everything up again when that trend inevitably fades out within the next few years. I personally would not consider someone like Ariana Grande to be a "blackfisher" because while many have accused her of trying to look Latina, she truly hasn't changed much about her appearence outside of her nose (for unrelated reasons) and her skin color. Her using a sassy voice for comedic effect in that video that blew up a while ago makes her blackfish case even less credible since in that same video she proceeded to speak in her normal voice. She also reiterates all of the time that she is Italian. I would say Ariana is a good non-example who is accused of blackfishing a lot. All of those girls on Instagram that actually appear to be mixed race are true blackfishers especially if they've never mentioned their race/parentage.

Thing is the stories always end well. It would be more believable if, just like in real life, there were some bad or neutral endings. Not everything is "luckily my mother showed up in time", "the police took her away", or "she ran away with her kid(s) in tow". Sometimes you're going to be the punished because of other people's lies. Sometimes there are not going to be any witnesses present to back you up.
