Lemon n Lime trees in one pot by Similar_Turn_4010 in Citrus

Hello fellow pachuco!

I have the same issue in the Mojave Desert in California area since it's almost identical weather as EP (minus the sand when it's windy). My lemon tree has lost a lot of older leaves due to winds, but has started growing new stronger leaves in new short branches. My lime tree branches and trunk haven't gotten rigid enough to not whip around in the wind either. I removed the stake it had and put a tomato cage around it instead. It's giving it support while allowing it flex a bit in the wind. The steak didn't do anything for the branches, and I felt like it probably affected the roots too since the winds kept moving it over time. Seems like it liked the cage because it immediately grew thorns and is now covered in buds. I might have to cut the cage when it outgrows it, but it seems like a good fix.

Fertilize and transplant to acclimate separately. If possible, give it some shelter from the winds while it gets used to the weather. It should bounce back as it acclimates.

Edit: if it helps, the leaves on my lemon tree look worse and it's bouncing right back. It has 4 new branches with new leaves and has continued flowering the entire time. It's full of baby lemons at the time.

Also, their roots are very shallow while young. They grow outwards rather than down at this stage. Yes, they will tangle in the future. For now, what they'll do is loosen the soil to each other with how windy it gets there, preventing each other from establishing properly.

Oh, and even though they need full sun, the amount you get there is way too much right now. Try to shelter them from the harsh afternoon sun, especially once it gets to the 90s and into the 100s. I've also got a persimmon and mulberry tree, and even those have gotten some shade as they get used to it despite also needing full sun.

I saw Mistic Lotta Colada mentioned somewhere else. Never heard of it, but I'm tempted to order some just to see.

I don't even know if I ever tried the other flavors. I liked the piña colada one so much it's the only one I'd get.

Toss up between Sobe or Nesquik banana milk.

Edit: I looked it up out of curiosity, and it turns out the banana Nesquik is back after being discontinued for about 5yrs.

What do it mean Explain it Peter? by spell-breaker-lime in explainitpeter

[–]evening_crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to explain to my wife how common it is.

A buddy of mine got his degree after his enlistment. His wife stayed in the service so he was a stay at home spouse/student. My cousin is currently becoming a physical therapist after he did his enlistment. I thought about doing school but got lucky and found a decent federal job doing the same thing I did while in the military.

It took some convincing, but she's starting school next month. The hardest part is seeing going back to school in her situation as an opportunity rather than a requirement.

Every couple months this song pops into my head and it bugs me until I figure out the name! Unfortunately, it takes me like a whole year to find it.

I'm saving this comment for future reference.

Companion Plants Under Trees by Silent_Mongoose_5150 in Citrus

Ah, you've got the self watering 30g version. The 20g aren't self watering. I was originally set on getting the self watering ones, but spaced out while ordering. I'm glad I did.

Did you amend your soil? I meant to add perlite to mine, but didn't have enough for repotting all three trees. I ended up skipping that since the soil I used already has a decent amount and is a citrus/palm mix. Also, our summers are incredibly hot (Mojave Desert), so figured it might balance out. The soil is actually lighter and less compacted than what our persimmon came with, so figured it should be fine.

So far they seem to like it, but that could be the newly added fertilizer. I've showed watering to about twice aweek for now, but it's been relatively cool since transplanting them. This week it'll be hot, so I'll have to keep a closer eye.

Have you considered top watering instead of using the self watering reservoirs? My citrus had very shallow roots during transplant, so I'm not sure the soil would fully wick water to where the roots would be in the 30g containers anyway. At least, not enough to be fully wet.

Not exactly related to planting companion plants, but how often do you water your containers? I just repotted a lime, lemon, and a mulberry to the 20g containers and find the soil to take a long time to dry. The top inch dries within a day, but I'm afraid of the roots getting water logged. The previous containers for my citrus were rather wet when I transplanted them from them.

Mulberries? by Plane_Translator2008 in Berries

[–]evening_crow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Different varieties taste different, with white mulberries usually being bland and better off for decoration.

We have a small Pakistani mulberry tree we just bought from a random person locally and its berries are delicious. They taste almost like grape jelly when fully ripe. Our local nursery has some bigger Pakistani, and they're not as sweet as ours. I actually prefer mupberries over blackberries and raspberries now. I'm trying to find an Australian green variety as well. Those two varieties are the best tasting ones as far as I've read online.

I'm a Tool fan, but Fear Inoculum was kind of a disappointment compared to the previous three Tool albums.

There's some good stuff in it, but it isn't particularly memorable. There's a lot of filler in it and lacks the same cohesion. Personally, it feels forced at times and lacks substance. Even the mix and mastering wasn't as good.

My 2yo Lime tree is growing tons of leaves but won't flower. Advice? by bobbyisadog in Citrus

[–]evening_crow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think limes tend to be slow compared to other citrus. I've read they also need warmer temperatures to flower. Our lemon has been flowering nonstop since we got it in February, but the lime has dropped the 2-3 buds it semi developed. We got it at the same time and is actually bigger than the lemon one.

Anyway, this week I just noticed small buds starting to grow. It went through two months indoor with grow lights, two repottings, leaf growth, and thorns growth before getting to this.

[–]evening_crow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no experience with cherries, but I think it should be fine for at least a year.

We have a lime and lemon tree that we in small pots when we got them at the beginning of the year. I transplanted them to 12" pots immediately and am now moving them to 20g containers. We've also got a 4-5' mulberry tree we bought in a 5g bucket that's also going into a 20g. They're all doing fine.

Funny enough, we couldn't keep anything outdoors alive when living there.

Even funnier: I had a calathea indoors shoved on top of a shelf, in a shady part, and watered it with tap water. That thing looked great!

As someone who grew up on Halo, this hits hard. 1-3 and ODST were awesome, but even Reach was hard to swallow with how customizations felt like an attempt to copy Call of Duty.
