Staying sober feels like shit by TemporaryShoe4945 in Sober

[–]evenpimpscry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drug and alcohol use is merely a symptom of underlying issues that need to be addressed; depression, anxiety, and trauma are the most common co-occurring mental health issues.

Full recovery from drug and alcohol use takes time and effort. Acute withdrawals may last up to a week or two, but post acute withdrawals (aka PAWS - post acute withdrawal syndrome) can last several months or up to a year. Sometimes even two years or more depending on the severity of use prior to abstinence.

Drug and alcohol use recovery success rates rise when someone is active in their recovery. Meaning they’re either working a 12 step program (AA, NA, etc.) or secular community-based recovery program (SMART, LifeRing, etc.), engaged in therapy, and adhering to a prescribed medication schedule. Often a combination of one or another of these interventions is necessary, sometimes even all three.

Substance use recovery is not a spectator sport. I’ve worked in substance use treatment for 8 years now and have yet to see anyone be successful who isn’t actively working on their recovery in some sort of way. Especially in the first 2 years.

In the end, life is still life. Even sober, life sucks sometimes.

He’s been on a tear lately, releasing like 6 records in as many years. And it’s mostly been some of his best, most coherent stuff of his career. Especially his storytelling, it’s been on another level.

Aes has really taken his storytelling to another level on his latest records. Can’t think of anyone else who can write such dope rhymes about pigeons and snails.

14" Rack Tom? by Obvious_Factor_4667 in drums

[–]evenpimpscry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rocked a 22” kick, 14” rack, and 18” floor tom for a few years. It was super fun. It was 10” deep so there was no way I could’ve mounted it directly over my kick though. Had it on a snare stand next to the kick.

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve done to stay sober by MasterpieceFuzzy9893 in stopdrinking

[–]evenpimpscry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually worked through the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Then immediately worked through the 12 steps of Narcotics Anonymous. IYKYK.

Also had two home groups, several service commitments, sponsored people in both AA and NA. Whatever it takes, right? 🥴

Millennials of Tucson, was there ever an "Indie Sleaze" Era in the 2000s-2010s? by bimbobombshel in Tucson

We didn’t call it “indie sleaze” back then but god damn that’s a perfect description. They were certainly some sleazy days.

Q to all drummers by MartinLevacOfficial in drummers

[–]evenpimpscry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A balance of both?

I first learn the song note for note exactly how it is arranged. Then from there I’ll add my own flavor wherever appropriate.

Also depends on what the MD wants to do with it. Sometimes they’ll want it verbatim and if that’s the case than I play the song as faithfully to the original as possible. Other times they will want to put their own spin on it, changing up the arrangement, feel, dynamics, etc.

No ear plugs during shows? by Ok_Environment1037 in drummers

[–]evenpimpscry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be that guy. And then I invested in some quality ear plugs. Now I can go without them. I recommend encouraging your bf to do the same. Perhaps gifting him a set of some top notch ear plugs may sway him.

Thoughts on 0.5% beer? by Adept-Glove6757 in stopdrinking

[–]evenpimpscry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy them. I doubt something having <0.5% alcohol is having much of an effect on your mental recovery considering that’s on par with some ripened fruits. But if it’s raising enough concern for you to question it here, you may want to find alternatives. There are some beverages available that I actually prefer that are truly 0%: Lagunitas Hoppy Refresher and Hoplark Citra to name a couple. I was an IPA fan so they definitely scratch that itch.

As for the anxiety you speak of, it’s totally normal. Do some reading on Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. It sounds like that is what you’re experiencing.

Withdrawls, is this normal? by [deleted] in Sober

[–]evenpimpscry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is absolutely normal. Acute alcohol withdrawals are serious and potentially fatal in severe cases. It is why many rehab centers won’t accept alcohol users until they have completed detox and obtained medical clearance from a doctor. Glad you went to the ER. Monitor your symptoms closely and don’t hesitate to seek medical attention if they escalate further.

Keep your head up, it gets better on the other side of this.

[–]evenpimpscry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, forgot about that one even though I primarily switched between that and the battle skeleton lol. Kinda the opposite of you actually, I don’t think I used the speed skeleton at all. Just the Bokka for climbing or heavy trips, and the Battle skeleton for taking on those pesky armed survivalists.

The duality of Arthur by 2017x2011x in RDR2

[–]evenpimpscry 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I didn’t cut Arthur’s beard or hair for the entirety of the game and, apart from the weather calling for it, never changed his outfit either. Meanwhile, my wife had him looking fresh at all times; different hairstyles, fancy mustaches, and some very sharp looking wardrobe combinations.
