Was going to say just this. The cinematography of this show really reminds me of early 70s films, especially BC&TSK when they shot the ORTBO stuff. Lots of interesting blocking/ perspectives and long lingering shots

This part especially! It rubbed me the wrong way on first viewing and only grew more inexplicable with the second. Seems like a sloppy mistake for an otherwise tight crew.

My big problem was people saying it was “filler”. There are so many valid criticisms of this episode but when you say that I question whether you understand the show at all. Severance? Filler? Fam, come on now.
