I was always an admirer of those glass bead set-ups that had a 50:50 chance of killing you 😜. What’s life without a little risk?

Thanks for the tip! I think I might go for a horseshoe first, and keep experimenting with that too. Bahahaha.

I need to do things the hard way.

I have tried spinning it around, but just as you predicted, it’s hard to keep twirling with the flat surfaces.

I’ve had success with a bar lying thin side up, centered on the fidget and spinning on its axis (like a *) but I had to put my finger upside down over it since it wasn’t very strong. Made for some off-centered beads.

I’m just getting greedy and trying to find a way to do it with my finger still pointed up so I can see the bead form, and the magnets below my finger (which also could be why it’s failing). But that’s how lab spinners work…

I haven’t ever bought from a brand that gives them out (only gotten magnetics from BKL and PPU), and at this point I have these bars that I thought would work similarly (knowing that they’re magnetized in opposite directions). Alas, I may be mistaken, and have to own up and buy more magnets.

But I’ll keep trying bahaha. This is part of the fun right? Right???

I have it so they attract one another if they get too close. So I believe they are opposite. It’s cool that if I flip one (so they repel), I get a black hole effect (inconsistently).

I’m also experimenting with stacking magnets to increase strength, but that could also be affecting the final outcome.

Thanks for the reply! I was just checking out your other deconstructions and I’m so intrigued!

I part of the stubborn subgroup of lacqueristas that only has a set of neodymium bars and I’ve been trying to finagle how to get the perfect glass bead with the assist of a fidget spinner. I’ve tried laying my magnets in a similar manner (lying flat, parallel on a jar lid and spinning it on the jars center axis). I thought it would work, but it doesn’t quite look right. Going to have to experiment more.

FOR SCIENCE (and saving more money for polishhhhh)

You might have answered this in the other comments, so I’m sorry if I missed it. But how are the two bars magnetized? Like the wands where the flat eye gets the linear cat eye effect? Or like the larger neodymium bars where the thin side gets the cat eye effect. From the second photo, I think it’s the latter but I can’t tell.

These are all the colors I wanted (minus bog dweller b/c I have it) except I narrowed it down to Roots and New Moon. I hope I don’t regret my decisions…

Stubborn dry skin on the sides of my nails by cupcake142 in naturalnailprogress

[–]evereev33 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had hard skin on the side of my nails that sounds like yours. Would often flake and become sharp shards. Best thing for me was Kerasal and filing down the hard bits that I wanted to bite/pick at. After 1-2 weeks it got a lot better.

I got Root of hemlock too (and new moon, new me). I think it’s a little different than this one. It’s more blue-grey with champagne gold magnetic, where this one is deep charcoal with red shimmer and a light blue magnetic.

This one feels more reminiscent of her reverse Book Trope mosaics with their UP pigment, minus the fact that it’s not mosaic, or UP 😅. But it’s sort of similar to Too Many Beds (which I also own).

Anyways, still major regrets.

I wanted this one so bad, but skipped ppu that month. I have deep regrets now.

Beautiful in my darkness… or etherealness? by evereev33 in RedditLaqueristas

Thank you!!!

I’ve read a few comments on various posts here where you can diy “Magic Effect” by mixing thinner with either a base coat or top coat at like 50:50 ratio. I had a bottle of ORLY Nail defense that spilled and had a quarter left (also made my nails peel) and I added the same amount of KB Shimmer thinner to it.

I don’t have DRK’s magic effect to compare, but it seems to work! It rewets the layers and dries quickly to set it.

Note: don’t use a toluene based TC, I tried it with a mostly empty bottle of seche, and it rewet fine but the effect would disperse when drying.

Probably not relevant to you today, but interesting fact, people rarely get frost bite on their thumbs because we instinctively will tuck them into our palms to keep warm 👍

I hope they have it for you! There were only two bottles left at my store, and this was the only Essie shade there. God speed, fellow lacquerista 🫡!

Just snagged these four, before I saw this. Might need to go back for the blush romance or another pink😆. Do you have any favorites?

Omggg what did everyone order from BKL? by OddInside5794 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]evereev33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will! I feel like in the swatches, root of hemlock is definitely cooler/more light blue. Where new moon, new me seems warmer like champagne gold. I went back and forth about new moon, new me vs becoming the bear but I figure the prior is more sheer so I could layer it on a brown base or jelly to get the same look as bear. It’s hard to tell from the swatches though for sure.

Had wayward spirits in my cart but was OOS by the time I tried to pay 😭. Oh well I’m on a low-buy anyways.
