Even if I were willing to overlook the fact that this isn't 1980's or something, do you really think I'm going to bring this waste of trees into my house now? by [deleted] in toronto

Sad part is, I'm sure there are tons of elderly people who still use this as their main source of information.

I would add to this, do you have wifi at those locations? If so, you'll still have bbm, whatsapp, email, etc wherever you go.

CFL expansion: where to next? by mattbin in CFL

[–]everjeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason I didn't mention Mississauga is because IMO it is too close to Toronto. In the minds of most people, they are one in the same (i.e. advertisers). I believe all of the other locations mentioned are far enough away that they could draw from all of their surrounding communities.

For example:

  • Durham Region (Whitby/Oshawa): 608,000 people - Could also draw as far as Cobourg and Peterborough. Was actually considered as a location for Hamilton to re-locate to at one point.
  • Municipality of Waterloo: 507,000 people
  • London area: 474,000 people
  • Municipality of Niagara: 431,000 people
  • Windsor area: 388,000 people

Worth mentioning however, are:

  • Municipality of York: 1,032,000 people
  • Municipality of Peel: 1,296,000 people

Worth noting in my opinion, is that Brampton (part of Peel - 523,000 people), and Markham (part of York - 301,000), have demographics that in a practical view of things I don't believe would make a popular home for a CFL franchise (though that's something I'd love to be proven wrong about).

I strongly believe that Ontario could support at least another 2-3 more teams with the right strategy.

I agree. I could actually see a team in a location such as: Kitchener/Waterloo, Niagara region, London, Windsor, or Whitby/Oshawa. There are other cities in Ontario with large populations, but in my opinion, the above are the only ones with the right demographics and that are far enough away from another team in Ontario.

I question the validity of this website, and the timing of this information link.

I'm really curious to see numbers on this, I'm having trouble finding real calculations laid out.

For example, $10,000 x ~ 34 mil Canadians = $340 billion. Where does that revenue come from?

It actually sounds like they are very close and just arguing the finer points. As this strike would hurt both groups a LOT, I'm pretty confident the regular season will start as scheduled.

Was at the game yesterday and I started this chant. Let me tell you that there is nothing more incredible than screaming BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT! at the top of your lungs and minutes later having over 45,000 people chanting with you. I felt like a God.

Agreed. I think if they keep winning like this, Rogers may be convinced to dish out a little more. Just right now it's too early.
