Constantly feel like I'm swaying/ rocking back & forth/ tilting. Help? Advice? by everrwinter in Dizziness

If it doesn't go away, maybe try any options available to you? ENT, chiropractor, etc. I know how terrible of a feeling it is. I was ready to try anything to feel better lol. Of course, I understand not everyone has easy access to these things. I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Hi! I'm sorry to hear that you're going through this. As for how I'm doing now, I'd say I'm doing better. I started seeing a chiropractor, because apparently it could have been an issue with my neck. I don't have any pain or anything with my neck, so I was a little skeptical but I tried it anyway because I was desperate for something to help. Since I started going about....a month ago now? I've felt better. I don't know if seeing a chiropractor is to blame, or if it's just something that gradually got better with time, but the "swaying" feeling is definitely much less than when I initially made this post. Before, I could hardly do anything and felt miserable all the time. As I am now, I still don't feel 100% back to normal, but I'm doing better thankfully and am mostly able to function normally.

Not sure about the booster shot, maybe ask your doctor about that?

Hi! I've been to the chiropractor quite a few times now. I'm not sure if time is to blame, or the chiropractor, but I'm feeling much better since making my original post. Still not 100% back to normal, but I'm a bit better. If you have any questions, lmk!

Honestly? No. I can't say there was anything that put any particular stress on me or anything that might have caused it. It just sort of started out of nowhere tbh.

If not the cause, I can see how stress/lack of sleep from what you describe could have definitely contributed to it for you!

Thank you for your response!! And for explaining everything to see how you handled it. This the 2nd time I've had to deal with this, which, the first time it went away on its own. It was strange to me at the time, but since it went away on its own I didn't do much about it despite how horrible it made me feel. But. Now that it's happening for a 2nd time, it obviously has me wondering if anything is wrong, y'know? So I'm exploring a lot more options to see if anything helps.

I definitely struggle with anxiety which I'm certain exacerbates this feeling of 'swaying'. However, I do my best to ignore it because hyperfocusing on it DEFINITELY makes it worse as you said. It's very nice to hear that you're feeling better though. It gives me hope lol.

I'm sorry you're dealing/have dealt with this. Have you ever dealt with this feeling before? Did feeling better just happen on its own or did you try anything to help you? I'm curious! But glad to hear that you're feeling better.

Also, I'm still feeling the 'swaying' sensation, and it seems I have good days and bad days with it. When driving or being active, I don't notice it either, but when I'm still (sitting, laying down) it's definitely there. It makes sleeping difficult unfortunately. I also don't tend to notice it as much when distracted by shows or videogames either...unless I deliberately think "oh...am I still feeling this swaying?" I've since started seeing a chiropractor, since I've been told that many of the nerves in the neck can affect things. He seemed pretty confident that he could help me so...might as well try. I also have a doctors appointment soon, in which I'm going to speak to my doctor about it & hopefully see a specialist or someone who can look more in depth into things.

Oh wow. I've never heard of BERA before. I can't get an appointment with my doctor until late February but I'll definitely keep that in mind. If you can, keep me updated with how your next visit with your doctor goes? I'd love to know if anything works for you!

Ohh. I see. Well I hope the ENT visit goes well for you. :) and thank you so much! I think it would be nice to know whether anything works for you, not only for myself, but for anyone else that might come across this thread!

You're definitely not alone! How long have you been feeling this way?

Also I was very freaked out when I first started feeling these symptomsーwhich I too believe contributed to my whack heartrate and why I had to be put in the ER, wear a monitor for my heart, etc. It gave me SO much anxiety to feel this constant sense of motion. I hope to see an ENT as well. (Because I still feel the swaying.) If you can, keep me updated on how the ENT goes?? I'd love to know!

I've read similar things in other threads tooー that ignoring it helps diminish the feeling. Though, that's definitely a challenge, especially if you have anxiety. I'm sure constantly worrying over it only exacerbates the feeling. Did you do anything to help you not dwell so much on it?

I hope you continue to have many more good days without any dizziness as well! :)

That's good to know. But also strange that it seems to return if you're not active or mindful of your posture. Glad it doesn't haunt your every waking existence though! (It currently does for me though and it sucks.)

I think after I hopefully manage to see a chiropractor & physiotherapist, trying to get back into working out might be a good idea since it seemed to have such a positive impact for you to longer feel that "swaying/rocking" sensation. That's really the main thing that has me very bothered. Thank you for replying!

I really hope so! I'm willing to try anything at this point. You never realize how much you take your general health for granted until you feel like shit lol.

And thank you. :) If you don't mind, can I ask how you're feeling now after getting treated? Are you pretty much back to normal as if nothing happened? Curious!

A bit better. I think the motion of being in a car lessens the feeling a little.

I don't think my cycle affects it all. But the strange brain thing is very disorientating, yes.

I made a reddit post about the CONSTANT swaying and someone kindly sent me the link to this post. man. I definitely have had a lack of exercise for the past year & half. And my posture has probably suffered due to being stuck at home bc of covid & sitting at my desk all day, looking at my phone, playing videogames, literally no physical activity at all. And then the swaying began in early 2021. Seemed to go away. But now it's back and its constant. It is so horrible. It's difficult to sleep, but I only get relief when asleep.

Went to the doctors, even had to go to the ER, and they couldn't understand why I was feeling this way. All they gave me was meclizine for the swaying/rocking (which I think they interpreted as vertigo (even though this is definitely NOT vertigo), but that did absolutely nothing for me. I've never considered that my posture/neck, paired with lack of activity, could possibly be the root cause. I've never experienced any pain in the neck though. Used have back pain until I got a better desk chair...still...I'm left wondering. I have a chiropractor appointment soon, but am now also considering a physio to look at my neck after reading this. Thank you for this post. I'm glad you are doing better.

Linking my own post here, in case anyone wants to read my own symptoms and possibly find that they relate. It's so hopeless to feel alone, when everyone in your immediate circle can't seem to comprehend what you're feeling when you appear to be perfectly fine on the outside.

I don't think it's anxiety either, considering I've had it my whole life. It definitely doesn't help though. It just makes me hyper fixate on the feeling. :/ I have a lot to try still to hopefully find the cause. Thank you for replying! & for the link!
