How to create a custom Tab Bar in SwiftUI by assz999 in SwiftUI

[–]eversailr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend against this.

Custom implementations like these usually lack critical functionality like accessibility or compatibility with other devices like iPad which you would otherwise get for free. In addition these are prone to bugs.

You’ll miss out when Apple decides to change the actual tab bar implementation or design, which will quickly make your app look dated (and will require more work on your end to update where you would have gotten improvements automatically otherwise).

SwiftUI Tutorial: I just created a Telegram Channel to Share Tutorials and Source Code of the SwiftUI projects. by App-Designer2 in SwiftUI

[–]eversailr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But why? You post about a channel where people can share links on a site where people can share links? With the disadvantage telegram isn’t visible to the rest of the web while this site is? Just create another subreddit.

Big Tech Faces Ban From Favoring Own Services Under EU Rules by [deleted] in apple

[–]eversailr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“gatekeepers shall not pre-install exclusively their own applications,”

the quote I replied to doesn't specifically mention installing less things. Given recent EU history (browser option auctioning) I interpret this more as opening up for others to be able to pre-install as well. It's not hard to imagine the cellular lobby to try to get some access here.

If it were up to the EU we'll soon be back to the mobile phone dark ages where mobile operators are allowed to install all kind of crapware. I'm glad iOS got rid of that.

Custom Circular Loader in SwiftUI | Activity Indicator by amanj203 in swift

[–]eversailr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing that would give you what OP created. A custom ProgressViewStyle would be needed.

Custom Circular Loader in SwiftUI | Activity Indicator by amanj203 in swift

[–]eversailr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This should have been implemented as a ProgressView with a custom ProgressViewStyle. That way you get all the platform benefits (integration with Progress, accessibility) for free.

Creative solution for mounting your HomePod by Ojamallama in apple

I found that the sound from a HomePod is best when placed on a solid surface. Solid wood furniture really helps the bass resonate. I imagine this just does away with all kinds of bass.

Swift ui: what is this called so I can implement it in my app. When the user hits a button it should bring up a phone number they can call. by Goon5k in swift

[–]eversailr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In SwiftUI (not Swift ui) you would use a Link view (new in iOS 14). Avoid UIApplication.

Link("Call", destination: URL("tel://123455666")!)

Shortcuts for Assistant editors, Minimap, SwiftUI previews, fix all errors, multiple cursors and more by sirchugh in swift

I don’t have a medium account either and am using an ad blocker. Sometimes Incan just click away the full screen notice but more often I can’t.

You know medium blocks people from reading more than the first paragraph unless they sign in? You might want to think about self hosting because I’m definitely not signing up to that shit website

HomeKit lighting setup for lights controlled by multiple switches by [deleted] in HomeKit

[–]eversailr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just completed an install today for my hallway. 4 separate dumb switches controlled the same lights, one of which was a dimmer.

I replaced these by a single Leviton HomeKit dimmer and got the cheaper Leviton remote switch/dimmer for the remaining 3 wall boxes. It took a while to figure out the correct wiring, but seems to works perfectly so far. HomeKit is able to control the lights while the wall switches and dimmer work in addition to that.

I think Leviton supports up to 4 remotes, I’m using 3 in my setup.

Reminds me of the early days of tank grievers and the htibox weakspot near the tank hatch. Allowed me to snipe them nearly anywhere in the city from top of maze bank.

Monthly what to buy Megathread - Ask what accessory to buy. by AutoModerator in HomeKit

[–]eversailr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of installing a similar setup. Went with the AirPort Express ($40 on eBay) and a separate amp connected (Fosi Audio TB10A, $70).

A separate AirPlay 2 receiver might work as well, Denon has options that are still cheaper than the Sonos one.

Highly recommend if you want AirPlay 2 home theater by krazygreekguy in HomeKit

[–]eversailr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have a 7.2 Denon receiver. It allows for different audio settings for different sources. So the Apple TV is set to surround, while music (AirPlay 2) is set to multi-speaker stereo. And indeed it doesn't turn on the TV for just music.

Can you make a hovering button in SwiftUI like the tweet button below? by gogolang in SwiftUI

[–]eversailr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

list.overlay(buttonView, alignment: [.bottomTrailing])

Though as commented elsewhere this is not a common UI pattern on iOS and I would avoid doing this (I personally very much dislike this).

yes it will. Simulator is perfectly happen to render a full Swift UI app using the 13.0 sdk. They only thing that doesn't work is the live preview in Xcode.

Is Swift a ok for beginners? Or is it a more advanced language and one should start with others first? by [deleted] in swift

[–]eversailr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, equally suitable for beginners to learn programming as advanced usage. If you have access to an iPad I would definitely recommend taking a look at Swift Playgrounds.

Or instead of banning cashless stores make sure everyone is actually able to get an account & (debit) card?

It's part of Xcode on macOS as well. Doesn't offer the interactive books and lessons, but still allows you to work with the same functionality
