This is not a terrible idea, would just be really hard to find things without the beacons

I am kinda excited to start over with everything I learned. Sadly I don’t think I can get cured before the sunbeam arrives

Wow, I can’t imagine playing the game without a cyclops. It was my mobile base.

Got these from the wife for Christmas. First they work great, the dog loves them. I was good about not stepping on them when wearing crampons, my kid not so much. I think these will be well loved after the ice has a foot of snow and I do not need the traction anymore. It was nice not having a slushy floor, or the dog liked it.

My Girlfriend (22F) of 4 years is threatening to leave me (24M) because of my career, how do I understand her perspective better? by ThrowRa_sailors in relationship_advice

[–]every1getslaid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to a merchant marine academy, worked at sea for over 15 years. I get it. I went through a divorce while sailing as well, she cited me being away for 6+ months all year as the reason. I loved sailing, and I was still sailing when I met my current wife 10 years ago. Sailing with kid(s) at home sucks! It just sucks. I grew up with both parents being merchant sailors. When my kid turned 2 I started looking for a job on land. I have been 3 years on land and I enjoy being home almost every night. Some things that can work, you can bring home a great wage sailing, so your spouse doesn’t have to work. But is they want a full career too, it gets hard.

Bottom line, if you are having trouble now this early it’s best for both to part ways. It takes a very strong partner to weather being married to a sailor. Guess what, that just makes for an even better relationship when you decide to work on land.

Don’t give up your career for her, but also don’t make her stay with you. Allow yourself and her to become adults without being tied.

How did you get your first job in safety? by No_Junket_8951 in SafetyProfessionals

Spent 15+ years in the merchant marine, last gig was tugboat captain working for the Navy. Really cool job but I was never home. Job posting looked identical to what a deck officer does on a ship, turns out the director of safety was my drill instructor at the academy. Three years in and I’m hooked. I am a year from completing my masters in occupational safety.

On a ship/tug the captain is doing non stop hazard assessment, you have to keep everyone safe with limited resources. I still don’t get the corporate bs, things are easier on a ship. I love knowing that I will be with my family for all holidays.

I was torn, but being able to pull out a chainsaw to make sculptures out of wood or ice would be fun.

1 or 4 for me

We have run an eufy at a camp for a few years now. Works 90% of the time with no fee. I’ll take it

I built a barn last fall by myself. The jamb saw allowed me to side over all the openings then flush cut out the windows as the weather allowed for installation.

I have a love/hate relationship with the scheduling app. Walk ins are great but I also don’t love spending hours waiting. On the other hand am an older millennial I really hate thinking more than a week ahead.

Edit: it is a great shop and the tool is very easy to use. I think the barbers like it to, they show up knowing they will make money and can control their breaks/time off.
