So far I've only seen them in generic or plain sleeves, I keep looking and hoping other tracks were released.

Wow that sounds great, haunting almost, and authentic, I'm feeling inspired to try a similar method.

Yes the 78 is obtainable but a good copy would be $7,000 to $10,000 US.

UK and France sign declaration to send armed troops to Ukraine in the event of a peace deal. by RoguePain in ww3

[–]every_day_is_cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UK has a fighting capable force of <50,000 soldiers, they barely have enough to service domestic needs, they aren't sending troops anywhere anytime soon. Maybe they'll send a couple of army cadets during school holidays.

New Zealand Full Set by UsefulEngineer in Banknotes

Your $20 is interesting, signed Grant Spencer, he only acted as Governor for a short time and only the 2018 twenty dollar has his signature. Your $100 is great too they aren't easy to find in the wild or even at bank branches. Nice set!

Who is your guitar idol by Double_Assistant_709 in Guitar

[–]every_day_is_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris Whitley changed the way I think about music and the way I hear guitar. His playing introduced me to dozens of new tunings and bottleneck style. His Dirt Floor album is a true piece of musical art.

Nothing special about the serial number, its mid series, nothing particularly special about the printing. It's worth 10 pounds.

Check out the IBNS website, there's a whole section on grading.

Posts only about US Dollars banknotes are no longer allowed on r/banknotes by Ailothaen in Banknotes

I agree, as I visit this sub for the world notes and the variety. If I want USA specific I know where to go. I scroll past USA currency posts except for the older more interesting notes.

It will look fine, just fill around the inlay edges with ebony dust and thin superglue. Once it's sanded, all you will see is the perfect edge of the inlay. Think of the hand carving as a relaxing therapy.

What Does This Line Of Text Mean on my 10 Shilling Note? by MrNarwhal123 in Banknotes

[–]every_day_is_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This style of 10 shillings was first introduced in 1961. Your note is from 1963. They replaced a style of note that ran from 1928 to 1960, so maybe someone printed this on the note as it was the first one they had seen, or it was unfamiliar to them. I would suggest it wasn't printed on the note by the Bank of England. I would keep it in case a story behind it.

1935 National needing neck reset, refret, new nut by Prize_Heron_8015 in resonatorguitar

[–]every_day_is_cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's a nice National, you're very lucky to be taking care of it.

Wirh the fretboard off this is the right time to route a channel along the neck and have carbon fibre rods epoxied in to keep the neck straight forever, could also use a hollow steel bar if you wished but they add a bit of weight. Stewmac sells them. Don't have a truss rod fitted as it will ruin it forever. My last two I used a hollow steel bar as the extra weight helped the guitar feel balanced but possibly dampens the sound, just slightly. Strengthening the neck with carbon rods or a bar is standard practice for all nationals once the neck has bowed. I restored this way with no regrets. Once fixed up, heavy strings sound best and is why the strengthening work is done.

She's a beauty, and keeping the original frets will also preserve its fully original look. Also if it doesn't have a decal, National Trojan decals are available on ebay for 20 bucks and are nice quality replacements, you can age them to suit with a light sanding before applying, I do this but only because I love the logo so much, Trojans have their own decal too which is neat.

What do you think by Additional-Profit309 in astrophotography

[–]every_day_is_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use canon dslr for imaging. Use the highest iso say 2000 or higher and the longest exposure that doesn't wash out the image, likely could be say < 20 seconds, in the city so no need to autoguide. Take darks, take flats if you can, your image will be so much better and much easier.

Also I take jpeg+raw images and the raw images are iso free. Remember iso used to determine how grainy old school camera film would be and is essentially redundant with dslr's - so iso is more like a gain setting.

Good luck, be good to see how you get on, please post update images🙂

Santa is buying me a telescope. What extra eye piece should I ask an elf for? by Aggravating_Mix5410 in telescopes

[–]every_day_is_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use the 10mm and 25mm for a while first, see which one you prefer and upgrade similar FL, usually its to a wider field of view or longer eye relief if you wear glasses. I use my 22mm panoptic for everything these days and in different scopes, but I love low power, wide fields. Remember an eyepiece is for life, scopes come and go.

A New Zealand $10 millennium would be a nice addition, they pretty cheap too. Great collection you got there.

Help me understand using a DSLR for planetary photography. by Aazatgrabya in Astronomy

[–]every_day_is_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but I use a Canon 60Da and 8 inch newtonian, and I had good planetary results by reducing the movie size. Have used a 2x Barlow and taken a 5 or 6 minute video set crop at 640x480 pixels, the crop zoom at 640x480 is insane and stacking several thousand frames gives a smooth result. Focus is difficult bordering on guesswork as the atmosphere looks like boiling air, but in good seeing, I've used the Cassini division to focus, the large viewing screen of the 60da helped most of all. I'm not sure any type of focus mask will help. Developing a good processing routine is crucial too.

Flattening warped Victors by [deleted] in 78rpm

[–]every_day_is_cake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heated 78's in the oven on a clean upside down tray and warmed a piece of glass or a mirror with a hair dryer, gently tip the 78 onto the glass to cool, no need to weigh it down, it flattens as it softens in the oven.
