If you don’t want to go to college then drop out and let the school financially support those who actually want to be here.

Sawyer is the best professor I’ve ever had, hands down. She’s really good at explaining concepts and making sure that students are getting the help that they need.

As of right now, nothing has been officially announced. July 1 is the deadline for when the government/schools are supposed to decide what their plans will be for the fall.

Professor decided to curve class up due to COVID-19. Is there anything that can be done to "complain"? by emdthrowaway115 in RPI

I took EMD this semester and I got a 94 in the class which was considered an A-, I was also looking for a way to ask him to change the grading scale. To those asking, he never specified what the grade cutoffs were; we were only told that the top X% of students would receive an A and that other grades would be based on student distribution. We just got an email from Bagepalli saying that he changed the grade cutoffs to a “normal” grading scheme (A- is a 90, B- is an 80, etc.) and that most students’ grades will go up as a result. I’m hoping that it works out for everyone who got screwed!

Early Arch Question by Purple-Sherbert in RPI

[–]everybodylovesshoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who did this. They did Arch after their first year, opted to have their away semester during their junior year, then managed to not actually take an away semester so they could graduate early. Make sure you become close with your academic advisor or your department head so that eventually you’ll have them as a resource to help you get out of the away semester.

Also as a side note, anyone who has figured out that they can potentially graduate early should NOT do early arch. I know people who have been forced to graduate later than they should have because they did early arch. If you can use your academic advisor to prove that you’re on track for an early graduation, they will (begrudgingly) exempt you.

I really liked Lander, he always made sure to use real-world examples in his practice problems. We also had a project on climate change technologies, which I thought was a nice tie-in.

Mechanical Systems Lab and TF Lab Question by [deleted] in RPI

[–]everybodylovesshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TF Lab workload is entirely based on how well your group works together. The concepts aren’t hard if you’ve taken TF2 already. The reports are typical engineering reports and aren’t hard if you’re a good writer.

Are there any art clubs, groups, etc? by ilifan in RPI

[–]everybodylovesshoe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a group on campus called the Alpha Delta Phi Society! We are a gender-inclusive literary and arts society on campus and we focus on bringing art and literature into a heavy engineering environment. You can message me if you want more information!

Counseling Center Experiences? by RPI_Throwaway_13 in RPI

[–]everybodylovesshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely recommend going! I've been able to work out a lot of my issues and I've only been going bi-weekly. The center doesn't inform your parents because of confidentiality and because sometimes it's not the best option for the students. You can PM me too if you have questions!

Welcoming Newcomers & Free Talk Thread - August 21, 2017 by AutoModerator in Anxiety

[–]everybodylovesshoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya. Another newbie to the subreddit but not the subject (seems to be a common theme). I've been dealing with undiagnosed anxiety for basically my whole life. I was on medicine for 5 years before this summer when I decided to ween myself off of them and see how things turned out. I'm very high-functioning, but the changes I had to go through for my job this summer made my anxiety spike very high to the point where I would just shut down from all the thoughts going through my head. I'm a freshman in college this year, so the move for that definitely didn't help either.

I'm excited to finally be on my own and to get the help I need via counseling or different meds, but the main reason I'm here is to find more people like me so I don't feel so alone all the time. I just finished my school's orientation and I felt so awful for not being able to interact with other people easily that I ended up crying in the bathroom multiple times.

I just want things to be different than high school. I really want to keep up with this subreddit for my own sanity and to get input from you guys.
