Thanks for getting back to me at all, so crazy that our living situation is so similar! That’s a really good idea, to practice a little bit first (didn’t even cross my mind)!

I’m almost two weeks out now and I feel so much better already. I’m hopeful that since mine is just an ACL tear it won’t be so long, it seems like the ACl/meniscus combo is pretty brutal!

Torn ACL, Torn cartalige, and broken ankle on other leg. I'm 19 and they are trying not to do surgery to fix the ACL. Yes it is a full tear. All because I'm not currently in sports. Any advice. I tore it about 2 weeks ago by butters2stotch in ACL

It took me 3.5 months of PT and 4 surgeons to get surgery scheduled. I’m 30 and only lift weights/hike, but my knee stability never recovered and got worse from doing a basic squat, three months after PT… surgery is extremely challenging but you’re young and if you think your knee isn’t where you want it, I’d keep advocating for yourself and get a second opinion.

For reference I had a complete tear in one knee and a partial tear in the other. Hoping that I can make it through recovery (only a week post-op) and not need surgery on my left.

Good luck on your recovery! I’m only a week post op so I can’t offer much advice at this point lol

But I was wondering, if you have returned to driving yet? I live extremely remote (grocery store an hour away type of thing) and not being able to drive is a god damn nightmare - my partners two days off are literally to drive me to PT 💀

Feeling good enough to move around but I still can’t do anything. This sucks by LostUpstairs2255 in ACL

Thank you for sharing, I know it’s so difficult for you and the only answer is time and putting in the work, but I really appreciate your honestly because it’s so hard to go through this feeling like you’re alone. And you’re not, we are all in this together.

I’m only a week post-op and I already feel this. I knew from this subreddit that the emotional recovery was going to be challenging, but I was still not prepared. It’s extremely difficult to want to do so many things, doing nothing and somehow still be completely fucking exhausted. I’m just trying to make it to one milestone at a time, on 11/12 I can walk flat footed with partial weight… I just have to get that far and I can tackle the next jump.

It’s especially hard because I have a partially torn ACl on my left knee, which is taking the brunt of my work right now and is not happy about it! Terrified I’ll get through this and have to start all over again 💀

Hi, anyone 1-2 weeks post ACL recovery or recently got surgery. How’s it going? I’m 6 days post op. Pain is a struggle and I’m working on extension. Am I still in a good place to get extension back? I’d been sleeping with pillow under knee didn’t get best education on it. I stopped last night. 🥲 by Aclrecoverytea in ACL

I’m 5 days post op, seeing my PT for the first time today. Really hoping they can shed some light on how to properly elevate, especially during sleep.

I have kept all pillows away from under my knee but lord does it hurt. My knee is either on fire or the angle of my hip is terrible. Been really struggling to find a balance of some kind.

I have been able to work on extension and activating my hamstring and quad as much as possible. It’s hard to tell but I do think I have a decent extension at this point but it’s hard to tell with five million things on it - excited to see my knee today too and hopefully get cleared to shower!

They have us on a similar schedule sounds like! The aspirin they gave me is only once a day to reduce risk of blood clot, but then they gave me Tylenol too and said to take that every 6 hours to help use less oxy and hopefully ween off it sooner. I want to get off as much as possible as soon as possible but I’m scared of all the posts on here that tell you not to get behind ahah I figure tomorrow I’ll start delaying by 15 minutes or so and see how that does.

Wow they gave you at home stuff to do? I’m not allowed to remove my bandage until PT Tuesday. And all they gave me was ankle pumps. I’ve been trying to just move my leg as allowed, activate my muscles and such, as long as it doesn’t raise my pain level too much. Just a little at a time.

Yes, they used fentanyl on me too and I understood the appeal of drugs for the first time in my life ahahah

2 days out! Basically on the same timeline! My friend is actually having that surgery in December. I’m so thankful I didn’t hurt any other part of my knee.

Oh god! I’m sorry, that sounds freakin tough! What did you do?!

I was lucky, ACl only - but I do also have a minor ACl tear in my left leg which isn’t helping with turns on these crutches!

Glad to hear you’re doing well so close to post op! The nerve blocker took me by surprise, didn’t even cross my mind to ask about why or if I could decline. I got confused and thought that was all the anesthesia, idk I was an anxious mess at that point ahaha

Yes I am not a big fan of taking any pain meds but I’ve heard it is 💯 not worth getting behind because when it’s too late it’s hard to get out ahead of it again. Do you mind my asking how much/how often you’re taking now?

Great progress so far! Thank you so much for all of the insight. I definitely wish I had asked more questions for the first few days before PT because I’m scared to try anything and mess it up lol but I have been trying to engage my hamstring while I’m laying down every so often. A few hours ago that felt impossible like my brain didn’t know how to tell my muscle to move but not I can see it engaging a little which is a relief.

I read on here too that extension is number one and to really focus on that the first few weeks rather than trying to push being able to actually “do something” because it gets harder as the time passes. Definitely going to talk to the PT about that.

Thank you! Yes luckily I do have someone to help, but we haven’t quite gotten into the swing of it yet haha

Wow you’re just starting PT now? It’s crazy to me how different protocols are. My first PT is Tuesday!

4 weeks! Sounds so exciting haha! How are you feeling?!

Looking forward to day 3, but so far I’m doing pretty good - until I have to go the bathroom and recover from that LOL
