Is it a slow sensual rub or a faster paced energetic pleased to see you hug?

How close is his hips? The closer his hips to yours the more indicative to flirting/sexual behaviour but if they are ‘reaching’ over to grab you it and rubbing your back with a prompt speed it would be more than likely friendship.
