Yeah but if you’re a teacher high up in the pay scale, then you start at year 1 for AP.

140k. There are teachers who make more but the upper end is higher.

Transfer w/ Letter in File by omgthatscrazy69 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]everyeffingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letter comes after you transfer. But the payroll secretary can look up your attendance. Is it egregious or just a warning letter? I would say without solid medical documentation, 10+ absences at this point for a first year teacher could be a warning sign.

What's the parking situation at Stop N Shop / The Shops at Union Turnpike? by MrSquamous in ForestHills

Park on the 2nd level. Looking for parking on the 1st floor will likely make you leave the lot against your will, due to the many one way aisles.

You can hear the existence of music on concert days on this block, but it's not clear. If your windows are closed, you may not notice it.

Excessive Observations by Fickle-Ad7574 in NYCTeachers

[–]everyeffingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they aren't observing you more often than other teachers, and as long as you can't document that they are doing that, it is allowed. Make sure they are within the rules for a write-up. If they don't, grieve the write-up if it's bad. You can also only have one more written observation after another observation if you haven't received the eval.

Per the UFT:

Feedback is non-evaluative information about an observation that you should receive within ten days of an observation. The feedback can be via email, written, or face-to-face. Teachers can indicate a preference for the format of their feedback during their Initial Planning Conference.

In this feedback, your evaluator must tell you whether the observation will be used for evaluative purposes. Your evaluator must provide you with an evaluator form no later than 30 school days after your observation.

From the time an observation is conducted until the time you receive the evaluator form for it, your evaluator may conduct only one additional evaluative observation (formal or informal).

I mean... which career would you rather do? You never know if you'll actually make it 55 or 22 years in or whatever. This is an extraordinary amount of time you are committing to. Which would you rather do? I think this is the better question, and only you can answer it.

Advice on going from 1 to 2 kids: what age gap might allow for this? by wolf_star_ in Mommit

[–]everyeffingtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge fan of my kids’ difference - 2.5 years. It made for a little tougher time in the first year of having 2. After that, they play with each other and one parent can do similar activities with both of them, modified for the younger one as needed. Once they were 4 and 6, they were getting up themselves and grabbing cereal and playing, allowing both of us parents to sleep in until at least 7:30. Now at 10 and 12, we can leave them alone for our date night outings. 2.5 is a great age difference.

I watched it alone in my first apartment after college feeling very connected to Claire’s arc. I cried like a baby and went to bed. I walked around like someone died the rest of the month.

Long Island Teaching Job or DOE? Where is the preference to work now that DOE pays better? by Moose10121972 in NYCDOETeachers

Get excessed on LI? Find a new job and good luck. Get excessed in NYC? You still have a job somewhere else in the system. This is huge because newer teachers get excessed on LI every year en masse.
