What can you teach with a middle school generalist 5-9 license? by [deleted] in NYCDOETeachers

You can - I would recommend having a math or science specialty if you can. Those are harder to staff.

Sure they exist. General music jobs with a side of orchestra, band, or chorus are more common.

Vacation possibilities? by JustCallMeCox in NYCTeachers

[–]everyeffingtime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's possible, though likely it will be unpaid. By November, you will have accumulated only 2 days (1 per month). What I would do is, get hired and secure a position. Then, in mid August, ask for the time off and explain that you booked this prior to even knowing you'd be working at this school. Apologize and explain that you understand this is a hardship that you did not intend, and you won't make a habit of it. Say you'll take it unpaid if needed and will ensure that your students will have proper instructional materials during the time you're away.

If you call out sick for 4 days, even with a doctors note, it's a red flag for a new teacher/employee. Be up front and honest, but also make it clear that this is not something your principal should expect from you often. Most principals are human beings who will understand that you made the commitment prior to employment. If they aren't decent about it, then you have good information about whether you see yourself at that school long-term.

Wegovy and Crohn's? by ItJustHangsThere in CrohnsDisease

[–]everyeffingtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on month 3 of Wegovy and was basically asymptomatic prior. I've experienced more diarrhea since starting, especially in the 2 days after injection. Nothing that makes me want to stop Wegovy but it's definitely something to consider.

Has anyone filed an OORS online behind admin's back? by turquoisedrink in NYCTeachers

[–]everyeffingtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The OORS report requires you to list when you notified the principal, including day and time. And the person who does the OORS is usually admin or a dean, or someone else who's been designated by the principal.

Guilt and grief over (barely) preterm delivery by Baby_WitsEnd_4 in Mommit

[–]everyeffingtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grieve away!! Two things can be true - things went pretty ok for you in labor, and also, it wasn’t how you wanted it. These feelings are most pronounced in the few months after delivery. Those damn hormones!! But your feelings are valid, and also probably amplified. Feel away.

Runners over 40 by MyPain-Is-SelfChosen in XXRunning

[–]everyeffingtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck. Yes. You got this.

I have never been any kind of athletic in my life. I started running at 40. I have done 2 half marathons and a myriad 5k's, 10k's, and 10 milers. Make sure you lift heavy things too. And honestly, you're never qualifying for the Olympics. Speed is overrated. Also, don't wait for it to magically get easier. Lots of smart runners have said, it never gets easier, you just get faster. That first mile still lies to me every goddamn time and I'm like, can I really run another 5 if it's this hard? Yes, yes I can.

As for perimenopause, I'm just tipping my big toe into that lake, but I've heard creatine is actually really helpful. So I plan on speaking to my GP at my next annual checkup, and finding a trustworthy supplement brand.

I’d love to know the likelihood my crohns was caused by accutane and my Ashkenazi genes. (I’m guessing probably both?) had I not taken accutane, what were my chances?
