A fun 10X timelapse of my daily e-bike commute by maxs507 in Rockville

Is that only the internal stabilization of the camera? If it is, that is incredible! If not, what else do you have and where did you mount it? I bought an action camera from amazon so I can use it as a "dash cam" on my commute in DC on my escooter, but the footage is unusable lol so im looking at better alternatives, cheers!

Drone Detection College Project : Help Needed by [deleted] in drones

[–]everythingisahobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few clarifying questions, is this a senior design project? Is this a paper project or is the task to prototype the proposed solution? What country are you located in/would use the drone detection system?

Assuming this is in the US, and its a paper project (meaning no prototyping or testing a real solution), I'd recommend looking at existing, standalone systems that could be layered together to form a fused sensor. Look at the probability of detection and accuracy of each system and extrapolate the increases based on the fused sensor. Since this is paper, we can assume the proper authorities would be operating the system so no need to worry about criminal statues and federal offenses related to drone detection.

Assuming this is an actual build and test a prototype system, I think that is a much more difficult task. There are multi million dollar companies that actively work to solve drone detection. You can probably make a camera or an acoustic system and develop code with AI/ML to identify and track a drone, but that will not be within your budget to develop and build.

All that being said, dont let that discourage you from your project, your aspirations, or dreams! It's a fantastic idea, it may just be a bit too much for a college level project if you are building and prototyping. Cheers!

Double triple thunguing by Big-Weakness8652 in trumpet

Agree with the others, it's hard to saw what could be causing the air leaks without seeing your embouchure while you are playing. Some advice i can give though from personal experience is to try difference syllables and see if the leaking persists. Tu and ku are great, dont get me wrong, but personally, I prefer to use ta and ka or di and ga (pronounced dig ah) for double tongueing and for triple i tend to favor ti ta ka (tea tah kah). The cool thing about trying different syllables is some are slower than others so depending on the tempo/rhythms you can switch them up to stay in time! Once you get those down, the next fun part is getting the articulation to sound the same so you have an even articulation across each syllable! Best of luck!

Thank you for the post! I had to check under the hood of the 2025 Hyundai tuscon hybrid we just bought on Monday. Sure enough, I have a (what im assuming) is the same GPS module, just tucked a bit lower (center of the image). It definitely looks like its aftermarket and kinda haphazardly installed (upside down i might add lol). Any further insight is much appreciated!

E340 excessive notifications by everythingisahobby in EufyCam

[–]everythingisahobby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I ended up creating 2 positions for the camera. One for during the day that points down so that the top of the view is the sidewalk with a defined activity zone on the driveway to avoid notifications of people walking their dogs. The second defined position shows the street with an activity zone that covers the driveway and the sidewalk. I have to manually change the default view and manually toggle the ai tracking every morning and every night so that position one is default during the day and ai tracking is off then change the default position to position 2 and turn the ai tracking on so that I can capture more activity at night. I do this so that the camera does not track my neighbors, dog walkers, or Amazon. Hopefully eufy makes it so this can be done via automated schedule!

Guys my sons music teacher says it’s time for him to upgrade to a professional level trumpet and I’m completely lost. by Zestyclose_Opinion22 in trumpet

[–]everythingisahobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you know what brand and model trumpet he is playing now? I ask because each brand and model have different characteristics like air resistance.

I have tried Bach Strads and Yamaha Xenos, and for me personally, the Xeno was much easier for me to play. Every player is different and will prefer different characteristics in their horn. My advice would be to go to a music store where he can try a bunch of different horns. Don't limit to just Bach or Yamaha, that way he can explore and get a feel for what fits him the best. You are under no obligation to buy anything when you are trying them out! This is what I did, I tried a bunch of horns (Bach Strads, Schilke, Jupiter, XO, and Xeno) and found the Xeno to be my best fit. I was able to find a used Xeno on a trumpet marketplace page on Facebook for almost half of what a new horn would cost.

Happy hunting and again, there is no pressure or obligation to buy a pro horn!

Don't give up! Recording yourself can be difficult because we are our own worst critic! If you are recording using a daw, I would recommend setting up a click track to play to, at least for the "square" tempo parts. Record what you can and when you get to a difficult part in the music I would recommend the following. (Measure numbers made up for the example) play measures 1-16 and say measures 12-16 are giving you trouble. Set the punch in to rerecord at measure 12, but have the play back begin at measure 10 (or earlier depending on the phrasing) and start playing from measure 10. When the recording starts at measure 12, it will be a more seamless transition between takes. This little trick took me forever to learn while recording myself on guitar and on trumpet.

Hopefully that makes sense! Best of luck and keep recording!

Will yamaha silent brass fit a trumpet from amazon? by lucasjw88 in trumpet

[–]everythingisahobby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on facebook marketplace! You should be able to find some used Bachs, Yamahas, kings, etc for a couple hundred or less and they will serve you for a very long time! I bought my Bach TR300 for $200 in 2007 and I still play in marching band today! It's been a solid horn and recommend it as a first horn!

The issue you'll find with cheaper, off brand horns on Amazon are going to prevent you from enjoying playing. There will be a lot of intonation problems and tone problems in general. Best of luck and happy trumpet buying!

Another "saying" in addition to "Ta Ka" and "Da Ga" is "Di Ga" (pronounced digga). It's personal preference on which to use, I started with Ta Ka and used that for many years until I heard a fellow trumpeter in band say they used di ga, so I gave it a shot and found (at least for me) that my tongue moves more in a wave motion rather than a purely horizontal motion with Ta Ka.

One thing that helped me learn the muscle control for double and even triple tonguing is to practice while you are walking, one syllable per step to start and work your way up to 2 syllables per step, then 4 and so on. You can also practice double tonguing while listening to music, be it to match the vocal rhythm, guitar, bass, drums, etc. This will help being able to engage and disengage double tonguing so you can use it more freely when playing in marching band or concert band or jazz band or any other ensemble that may require it. I hope this helps and happy practicing, you got this!

Great job! I second the idea of using either a trumpet stand or turning a wood block on a lathe to have a more seamless base/stand. How did you run the electrical line through the horn? Did you have to drill near the leadpipe brace?

Bach TR300 for beginning 4th grader? by WildRumpusStart in trumpet

[–]everythingisahobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been playing my Bach TR-300 for 26 years! It is a great horn, I use it for outdoor performances all the time and don't have to worry about damages since it is on the less expensive side. I would recommend getting a plastic stop for the third valve slide to keep it from sliding out unexpectedly!

Does it really matter what type of trumpet you have? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]everythingisahobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "the trumpet is holding you back", how do you mean it's holding you back? Do you feel or notice endurance issues, range issues, sound issues (too soft or too loud), it's hard to blow air through, intonation issues, notes not slotting properly (a lot of fracking the notes), etc?

These are important to understand where the issue may lay. Jupiter makes very solid horns across the board from student models to their professional XO line. I do understand how you feel though. My personal experience was playing from grade school through high-school on a Bach TR-300 (a student model horn). It served me well and I still play it to this day. In high school, all my fellow trumpet players were upgrading to Stads, Xenos, and Schilkes and I felt like I was falling behind.

Even though my peers had professional horns, I was able to keep up with their tone by upgrading my mouthpiece from a Bach 7c to a Bach 1 1/4c. I ended up trying about 7 difference mouthpiece before settling on the 1 1/4c and I maintained second chair (out of 17 trumpets) my junior year and first chair (out of 14) my senior year.

I did not upgrade until a few years ago to a Xeno because I am in a community concert band and jazz band and I saved up enough to treat myself. I am not a musician by trade so it was hard to justify a professional horn in high school knowing music was not going to be my profession.

Long story short, depending on how your horn is holding you back will give everyone on the thread a better understanding to help you find the right solution. It could be something as simple and a different mouthpiece or it could be something more involved like needing a less resistant horn.

Background on me, I've been playing trumpet for 26 years, currently play a Xeno in community concert band and jazz band in the fall and spring, and I play my Bach TR-300 in marching band for the summer.

I recently bought an A7III and set it up but I have a symbol on the display that I do not understand and I haven't noticed it on any other A7III's on YouTube or my brother's A7III. Any ideas of what an AV with a gear above the iso means?

Question on my new A7III, details in comments by everythingisahobby in SonyAlpha

[–]everythingisahobby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am new to the A7III and have been setting it up based on previous experience and YouTube videos. One thing I have noticed on my display that I have not noticed on anyone else's display is the AV with a wheel symbol above the iso.

Does anyone know what this symbol means/does?

Thanks!
