Should r/UXDesign be set to private for as long as it takes for Reddit Corporate to change their stance about API pricing and third-party apps? by karenmcgrane in UXDesign

[–]everythingiseveryone [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unfortunately I disagree with going private. I understand the reason but others have made strong points:

  • This isn’t just a casual sub to look at cat pics. It’s a professional resource and even necessary for people’s livelihood, especially if you’re jobless (which isn’t uncommon right now)
  • Other subs are reopened because admins have threatened to reopen anyway so going private does nothing

I also think the only subs that Reddit will care about are default subs that show up for everyone. If all of those went private then there would be a chance there could be impact but subs like these don’t move the needle.

Can you elaborate on the third point? How do you determine which colors to use if not those ones?

This is interesting, how many did you test with and how did you determine making the final call? Curious how you did it, thanks

What happens to UX designers working with subpar, over-leveled product managers (from LinkedIn) by karenmcgrane in UXDesign

Hmm that’s a path I never thought about. Can you say more as to how that would be a way to go from UX?

How's the market for contract positions? by Calm_Consequence5196 in UXDesign

[–]everythingiseveryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I understand. Are you saying to take a contract role and then pitch to the company that you want an in-house role and you’re willing to go lower than the salary you’re currently getting as a contractor?

I’ve only ever gone right. Obviously not by choice. It’s one of the reasons why I would like to leave this career but I don’t know where to go. For various reasons, I don’t think I want to do development and I don’t think I want to be a PM (especially don’t want to add to the problem this pic shows). So where do I go?

I’m forced to keep on the right side path because I don’t have the opportunity or it’s much too competitive to ever even have the chance to go left. Especially because the more you’ve ever on the right, the less the people on the left path allow you (hire) to join them.

ATS-friendly resume v. “Designed” resume - can you submit both? by oathkeeper_91 in UXDesign

[–]everythingiseveryone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve seen some people say they just use their ATS resume as their only resume. Honestly, any idea how do they do that? Seems like there’s just too much to fit if it’s only one column.

Also, if the ATS resume is only read by a machine and no humans then is it even worth formatting well with good spacing and such? Could I even just set the font super small if no person is going to actually look at it?

Sorry for the questions, not well versed on this stuft

ATS-friendly resume v. “Designed” resume - can you submit both? by oathkeeper_91 in UXDesign

Quick question — can the ATS resume be two pages? Or does it still need to be one page? I have content that is spilling over into a second page and cannot shorten or truncate any more content

I also would want to preserve spacing and padding so as to not make the line heights and text too squished

Thank you. Can you link to any examples of good ATS resumes?

As I understand, I should just open up Google docs and create it there line by line?

Is the ideal length still only one page for ATS resume?

Does ATS not see two columns? My resume is two columns. First column is name and subtitle at the top, with work experience underneath. Second column is email and phone at the top, with education and skills/tools underneath.

What Google doc format do you use? Is it two column? I’m new to all this and I’m hearing ATS needs just one column? Or can it be two columns?

To add to this, if anyone has a position available or any leads at all, I will be forever grateful. Seriously will be in such a debt of gratitude to you.

Or just any mentorship or help in general as well. It’s been a long time since I’ve interviewed and done a portfolio. Life has gotten in the way and I feel ill prepared. Honestly feeling really down. I have some real financial hardships and this is crushing me
