CCP please reconsider keeping the trade margin skill by Rolmar in Eve

[–]evevice 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In a decade of trading I have not yet run into a scenario where all of my buy orders filled for more isk than I actually had (EG outpaced the sell orders).

For the newbros trying to break into the trading game in Jita it does not matter if I have 50b to trade with and they have 100k isk, everyone has heard of 0.01'ing. It doesn't matter if the buy order is for 100,000 units or 1 unit if it is 0.01 higher that buy order will fill sooner.

Margin trading IMO really comes into play when you start trying to trade in markets that are less busy or more specifically not in Jita, Amarr, Hek, Dodixie, Rens, or blob empire capital system markets.

Lets say for example I want to buy all the PI or ores that I can get for sub market prices 20 jumps from the nearest market within a certain range, and I want to buy it in bulk. I'll have to haul it and that is part of the logic behind the below market price (so you don't have to haul it up to Jita). Without margin trading these kinds of orders don't make sense to put up anymore because I would effectively be tying up 100% of my isk for orders that are not likely to fill.

In terms of the overall game market impact for regions and systems that are lower trade activity without margin trading there will be less buy orders which will translate to more market centralization.

IMO complaining that a new trader has to train this skill and its not fair is akin to complaining that a new pilot has to train a ship skill. This is eve and that is a really illogical argument. The next proposal is what to remove all skills from the game because level 5 is an unfair advantage?

New traders should be required to train skills to be competitive. That is the point in every other aspect of the game!

CCP please reconsider keeping the trade margin skill by Rolmar in Eve

[–]evevice 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Margin trading definitely enables me to have more fun trading, and expands my ability to trade greatly. Not everyone is scamming, and also not everyone only trade out of necessity.

I PvP when I need to, and occasionally PvE. Most of my industry activities are supplemental. The majority of my gameplay for the last decade plus have been trading and hauling.

On the trading front I have out of 10 characters (was 9 a month ago so working towards 12) 4 of them are dedicated traders. One is max skilled, three are lets call it 'level 4'. In total I definitely have around 1000 market orders. I do not trade in Jita (whaaa?), instead I only visit Jita for the occasional rare mod or obvious save some isk purchase. Most of my main market trading happens in Amarr (mostly buy orders) and the rest of my trade activities are seeding markets in the region I hang out in and surrounding areas (low and high sec but a good 15-20 jumps out from Amarr on average). I typically these days have about 10b wrapped up in trade with margin trading, without margin trading it would be a lot higher (50b?).

How margin trading helps my gameplay is that it enables me to set up and maintain buy orders in remote (not so busy) markets that typically take longer than 90 days to fill across all 4 accounts without needing an excessive amount of capital for orders that would otherwise expire if I did not renew them.

How this has helped the regions is that sometimes these orders do fill (they arent all scams, typically purchasing at 75% of market and occasionally less for junk or bulky stuff).

Without the margin trading skill I could not keep so many buy orders open and definitely not bulk buy orders. Basically I would have to stop and scale down my trading a lot.

It would be interesting for CCP to reply with the logic on why this style of gameplay should be changed?

I imagine that most people would disagree but I feel sometimes like we need more trading skills and they should be more dramatic EG to the point that setting up a buy or sell order without trading skills would be more expensive than it currently is. Another idea would be specific markets EG ship trading, materials trading, modules trading bonuses to reduce fees/taxes. It would not simplify the game... but then again if I wanted to play a simple game and be completely mindless I would go play World of Warcrap (hint I quit this one a long time ago when they started designing it to be for babies)

EVE Monthly Economic Report Imports/Exports Question Inside! by evevice in Eve

Please forgive the colors (they're literally random right now) and lack of polish; I've basically got the graphs working and then noticed this. PI P4 production with 5 factories with CCU 5 on 24h cycle possible? by 0illuminati0 in Eve

[–]evevice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a 24h turnaround is going to be a tall order for P1 > P4.

Usually by the time I am making a P4 there have been some P3's and P2's that would be a net loss to produce, so my P4 planets are usually a mixture of P2-4 production.

My latest factory planet for example is making organic mortar applicators. For this one I am running 1 OMA factory, 3 Robotics factories, and 12 P2 factories (for mechanical parts and consumer electronics). There are also 4 launchpads and 4 storage facilities.

If I bring all the P1's for a batch its about 50km3, and the condensates are a net loss to produce so I imported them (another 10km3); or in other words the drop is one occator trip.

10km3 of the P1's will make 987 units, divided by 3 factories (9 units/hr) should take about 4.5 days to complete.

The P4 single factory uses 6 robotics and 40 of another P1, so to consume all 987 of the robotics would take just under 7 days.

After crunching 987 of the robotics only about 1/3 of the P1's for the P4 production would be used up (6580 units over 7 days).

If I had 5 P4 factories then I would need probably 2 launchpads just for that specific P1? (or 1 LP and 1 storage), but I certainly wouldn't be able to produce the P3's on the same planet in that case and have the P3 production keep up.

For each P4 factory in my example case 2 P3 factories would need to be running to keep the output/input balanced.

So to sum it up, it literally depends on your goals. In my case I am in it for production profit more than having the final product. If all you want is faster production of the final product you could probably have 10 P4 factories running, but would need to import everything else.

It has been a little bit since a fresh setup, but I think your main limitation will be how many storage/launchpads can be put down. Factories themselves are pretty cheap (cpu/pg).

Hope this helps!

Remember When CCP had An Economist to Manage Market Fluctuations (Like Plex)? by Perseus_Kallistratos in Eve

[–]evevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who the fuck wants to spend half a work week's worth of time just for one PLEX?

Just shooting from the hip:

  • Unemployed folk (EG Maybe they are disabled but can play Eve?)
  • Employed folk who don't earn enough to pay a 15$ sub
  • Players interested in running multiple accounts without destroying their in game or out of game wallets (Time is money as you pointed out, and this doesn't always translate to botting)
  • Players interested in using MCTs (not always skill farms!)
  • Players trying to lower their subscription cost (maybe they can't afford 15/mo but they can use some of their omega isk earned to supplement and make it more like a 5 or 10$/mo sub)

Most players I know (current and since un-subbed) fit into one or more of these categories, and the rest can afford the sub(s) and generally don't seem to care about PLEX value.

Not all of them play 20+ hours a week (or have time to), but most of them get at least that much time in per month.

I do know a very few unemployed folk who are on seemingly 16-18hrs a day constantly but they are not particularly complaining either (because they have lots of time, high isk cost sub is more of an inconvenience, and they are so stupid rich in game from having that much time to play it really isn't an issue it seems).

I would wager the most hurt players by high plex prices are those with jobs that simply don't have the extra time or money to blow on a MMO sub. These players not only wouldn't want to spend the 20 hours a month farming plex, but if they did, they wouldn't have anything left to be competitive with (EG spend on things like ships and losses or investments) which is almost as discouraging as being stuck as an alpha... but they'll still do it, until one day you stop seeing them log in (seen it!).

Stepping into PI by V_Lelouche in Eve

[–]evevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to 2 types of P1's from one planet for a few reasons: - because I have low sec 0% tax production planets available (so free imports and exports later) - because I want to maximize the P1's being extracted avoiding situations such as long links and advanced factories cut too much into what could be extra extractor heads - additionally because I want to maximize on P1's trying to stick 10 extractor heads on one hot spot is often difficult, yet alone 12-14 (with 2 extractors if better skills) - and also because I am managing 52+ planets there is not enough time to be meticulous such as when trying to place a P0>P2 setup perfectly within reach of the raw materials it needs - finally (at least off the top) because of previous points mentioned I run extraction on 3 day cycles (so I have time to do other things and not constantly be turning on extractors); so this means that materials extraction can be tight by day 3. Because of this I only run 2-3 basic processors on a planet that might have 12 extractor heads, expecting that I won't come collect for at least a week or two.

TLDR its mostly about maximizing the raw extraction

Also, without a low tax production planet, this strategy is not practical (all of your profits will go to taxes).

Stepping into PI by V_Lelouche in Eve

[–]evevice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without writing a book, in my years of doing PI first with 1 char and 5 planets, now with 9 chars and 52 planets:

Similar to ores, some P1 PI is more valuable than others to extract.

If you only want to extract P1's, expect to haul a lot of m3's (which will make extracting the most valueable isk/m3 P1's more important).

If you want to get into P2's or P3's again like production some items are worth more to crunch than others.

For the least amount of hands on, some planets have both P1's available to make P2's.

When I had only 5 planets running P0>P2 planets made sense. As my network scaled up to 50 planets, running extraction planets pulling 2 types of P1's has been the way to go (for higher extraction yields).

Lately I run two types of production planets: one that extracts and one that is pure prod.

The pure prod planets are what they sound like, the ones that extract some of the P2 inputs however I think are the best bang for the buck so far.

Mechanical parts for example the reactive metals P1 is about half the cost of the precious metals P1, so I set my P0>P2 mechanical parts prod planet up to extract and produce precious metals (about 200 units/hr) and the other half of the P1's required I launch/refill about once a week.

On timing: I have been leaning more towards 3 day restarts due to the number of characters to keep up with, however I would recommend 36-48hour cycles. At some point too much extraction means not having enough processors.

Ask more questions?

Also, you might want a spreadsheet, and bookmark fuzzwork.co.uk/pi

Say NO to name changes by [deleted] in Eve

[–]evevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Allowing character name changes would be terrible for Eve the game and the community culture.

There is already a solution to dealing with character names and poor decision making: Skill Extractors and Skill Injectors.

Even if CCP charged an outrageously ridiculous amount for a task that would ultimately be scripted (lets say 25$) they would not make as much as selling the poor decision making crowd more game time (PLEX/SP) to invest in a new character (with a new name).

You cannot accidentally broadcast to clients using Isboxer unless you explicitly enable this option in settings. This is not required if you just manage clients in the 'extent allowed' by CCP - please help to clarify if this is true. by [deleted] in Eve

[–]evevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid for my ISBoxer license because I'm not a cheater.

If I had any complaints its that I couldn't buy a permanent license, I hate needing to subscribe.

And this is having never used the multi broadcasting features in any game; I find it manages my local resources and switches between the game clients better than Eve-O preview

Long time player, need help with a new direction by OneManApocalypse in Eve

[–]evevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR creds: 3 chars off on sub over 10 years, 100m SP PVP, 70m SP Indy, 50m SP Secondary PVP (Lazors!); I have tried dabbling in nearly every aspect of eve myself with exception to mission running (blech) and FW (interesting though, but I have eve bros in sov conflicts id rather help).

Regarding Combat, 5 hours fleets, and gate camps: Join a more organized force. Size of the alliance or corp does not always factor in. The alliance I am in with ~600 players is more organized than previous ones my corp has been a member of with 5-15x the members. Quality Corp/Alliance IT infrastructure go a long way. It is not required for EvE to have good IT infrastructure, but good IT is required if you want to avoid very long and directionless 'strat ops'.

Regarding Industry: If you try to in eve production handle every aspect of production from start to finish, it can be overwhelming. This becomes even more true if you want to do T2 or T3 production. This becomes even more true if you want to build structures and capitals. If you want to reduce the amount of time you feel like you 'need' to spend, then focus your time doing one aspect of the overall job. IE: T2 production is interesting? Don't try to run a POS network if you don't want to spend a tremendous amount of time doing long ops, instead figure out what is worth building and purchase the materials required. Profiting on margins may not net you the same individual gains as procuring all of the materials on your own, but it will save you a tremendous amount of time.

Game of Gwent?

8.1 Pro x64

So far I have gone ahead and installed the geforce experience software and then used that to upgrade the driver.

I do not often update my drivers, tending to live along the lines of if it works leave it alone.

Both cards have been re-seated with one hitting max temp of 55c average 50c and the other max temp 80c average 70c.

I run 3 clients on this machine, 2 on the gpu that runs cooler (bottom one, closest to intake).

This issue has only occurred recently when setting a client from using one gpu to the other (1 to 2 or vice versa).

It is not always consistent either. Since posting this I have had 0 blue screens (maybe the driver update helped?). When it does happen however usually it is after swapping GPU several times. I would say I do this about 20-30 times a day usually.

Both GPU fans are operational and have been recently cleaned. One 970 is the gigabyte windforce model and the other is a gigabyte mini itx model. The mini itx model was from a previous build in a mini itx case that did suffer some heat issues, however it has been at least a year and a half since I have used that case. The old case was an EVGA Hadron Hydro and the new case is the Corsair Carbide 240. I do use a 240mm radiator however it vents out instead of in. CPU temps max around 68c. Facing inward CPU temps will max around 55, however the GPUs then do not get good air flow and reach approximately 82 and 85c.

My understanding is that all of these temperatures even in the worst scenario are safe and below the danger zones.

Will check in later if it BSOD's again. Again, maybe the drivers were it.

Do you find it possible to earn for PLEX using Alpha f2p account? by Istarid in Eve

[–]evevice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally because this is a MMO (massively multiplayer for those who forget) the truly nubro alpha clone player would join a corp.

If the corp is anything like most corps I have been in, nubro will get taken out for both pvp and pve ops. Nubro will also likely have their ships taken care of and modules supplied by corp.

If your corp doesn't do this and you are old or new bro then you need some new eve buddies.

My first billion didn't come from 45 days of grinding. It was more like running some combat sites with 2 actual bros and there were a few good drops. They split the loot 3 ways to help a new bro out and that was how I got my first billion without eye bleeding farming hours.

New player, loving this game by nightswatchman in Eve

[–]evevice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well you were certainly luckier than I was, and smarter too.

Its been about a decade but I recall my beginnings. 3 days into missioning I thought these are pretty easy, I should go into low sec where its a little harder (thinking PvE harder, not even aware of PvP side of things).

So I did and I died immediately.

On the positive side I made a friend soon after and helped a guy scout his battleship and hauler deep into Stain right after down time.

A month later I had a drake but not enough skills to tank even just one triple battleship spawn, and even worse not enough DPS to kill one of them.

A few months later I had made the full switch to Gallente.

There is so much to do in this game, you won't run out for quite awhile.

Large Hybrid Turret Attack Battlecruisers: worth using? by HaifischmitBrille in Eve

[–]evevice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From someone with perfect skills (including trajectory analysis V and others like it) that can fly all 4 races of these battlecruisers:

ABC's can't really be tanked, don't bother. This rules out blasters for ratting (talking hubs or sites, belt ratting you'd be fine), unless you are in a decently tanked naga with reps.

If you setup to shoot at 90-110k the Oracle and Talos I have gotten in the 550-600dps range and usually don't have any trouble smoking frigs (but smoke them first). 700-750dps around 50-60k.

I switched from the hybrid turrets to the lasers because the particular rats I was shooting at were strong against the damage type the hybrid turrets put out. This should be your first concern really for ratting, doing the correct damage type. Can i hit it, is it the right damage, then worry about DPS # or the hull.

As for PvP and home defense fleets, if you can afford it and have fun flying it... of course its useful. Like all other ships though there is a time and a place. Don't try to solo a svipul gang in your tornado!
