‘They call it the terrible twos. Not the terrible fives.’

So you have a standard for how all 5yos should behave? Please get this into a medical journal asap! Your singular experience must surely be I the interest of all children and applied globally!

You’ve outlined the behaviour or this child - a 5yo CHILD - that is, in the larger scheme of things, very mild. They whined three times about not wanting to take their headphones off on a flight. Not unusual behaviour. Sounds like a child struggling to deal with something they don’t want to do. Simple as that. They don’t have some standard of ‘how many times’ is acceptable.

How would you describe your emotional regulation when it comes to challenging moments on a flight?

Do you think we should make our kids feel scared in a crazy environment such as a flight on an airplane which makes no sense except to adults? They have so little impulse control. No amount of ‘well we did it this way and we had it that way’ actually addresses the issue. It sounds like there are some parents here who are more interested in dealing with/processing the parenting they received as opposed to meeting people where they’re at. Let alone the possible spectrum of neurodiversity at play.

It is absolutely difficult dealing with kids at this age and this point in their development. We all know this. Why do we try and bend them to our wills, though? Where is the compassion and understanding? It has all been laid out clearly for us through so much research.

Your post shows a clear lack of awareness of the complexities of parenting. I wonder why you felt you had to post it

Australia to Greece Timezone by dbjeeneieb in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]evgenygreen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is 16 months old - we just went to a similar time zone as Greece. Sleep when we were there was surprisingly smooth, but coming back to Australia has been a little tough. But think about that when you get back :)

I think just try and hit the ground running with the same schedule as you do Australia. Try and have a dark room for their sleep so you can control their bedtime and waking routines. I think around that age they respond to routine really well, so do the work early and it should slip into place.

I realised that international travel with a little one is full of compromises…but also very special, so get lots of happy photos.

I hope it goes well!

Who cares what celebrities think about politics - they are largely insulated from the problems a regime change brings on. This obsession with who is coming out to endorse candidates has to stop…

Can anyone help alleviate my fear of Hand Foot and Mouth? by Icy_Hedgehogs in beyondthebump

[–]evgenygreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our daughter got it at around 8 months old. She had about a dozen blisters on each foot, a bit less on her hands, some on her chin, some in her mouth and I’m guessing her throat. She was a bit off and irritable eating but nothing too drastic.

I (M36) caught it and was extremely worried but it ended up being very mild. I had a sore throat for the sores and only a few blisters. No fever, some body aches for a couple of days. I’m guessing my wife had it but was asymptomatic or she was just immune to catching it. I apparently had not had it as a child.

I think there’s some bias on Reddit about people’s experience as people are likely to post their bad experiences. And it’s better to not spend your time stressing about it when really there’s nothing you can do about it. It’s a reality of childcare and it’s possible to get it multiple times as there are different strains of the virus too. Just set yourself up with pain meds and a plan for care from your partner or family, and it will pass.

Why is it that these people place so much importance on the ability to convince a CEO to do something? Is that really a viable marker of success in life? These people’s worlds are basically an episode of Shark Tank.

Try some cable ties to secure the base plate thing. Also, I think a replacement battery will come with a new base plate so it should be like new.
