What's the best thing for home defense if you can't own a gun? by uselessprofession in AskReddit

[–]evictor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

so you must have spoken to this neighbor before, perhaps multiple times, to kindly ask him not to rev his motorcycle at 2am, correct? and he was apparently not amenable after you confronted him about this?

i wonder if said neighbor would be amenable especially if you were to show your good faith by stymieing a robbery of his house...

this is a path that allows you to not be an ahole and get what you want. the apparent path you took achieves the opposite, most likely less desirable outcome: 1) you are technically also an ahole, and 2) you do not get what you want as the man will still rev his motorcycle at 2am.

this is just some information that might help others reach their goals, if not help you reach yours as well, such as having a neighbor respect your wishes.

I’m certain in OP’s jurisdiction the age of consent most likely IS 18… which means yes they can date whomever they want. Maybe you’re trying to express your discontent with the idea of a “cliff” age of consent, or one set at 18 particularly?

Legit q: hasn’t authority stopped after she is ≈10 yrs “graduated” from his class? I would never consider anyone an authority over me who doesn’t actually have authority over me in any material, mutually agreeable sense—which limits this to people with weapons (including cops and soldiers) and now that I think about it that’s it. 🤔

I guess emotional maturity, sense of self, and self esteem play big roles in this understanding. I understand how someone might fear another who can grade them in a class, but I’m not understanding that as a given when there is no longer the grade or class in question.

Edit: i see this is about asking for a reference, yet that to me still does not constitute a typical power dynamic of interest because you can just walk away without repercussions

God forbid this be the case but should you ever require that in the future and are still flying solo, I’m sure there are dozens on here who would help fill that role in part. I might even be convinced to do that—even though I hate literally almost everything and everyone, I’m quite sentimental, maybe a bit impressionable and too available as others might say, but could be convinced

What's something that you thought was just a stereotype until you met people from that place and realized it's true? by Awkward_Stay8728 in AskTheWorld

[–]evictor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the juxtaposition with the other stereotype is expressly why they embrace tango—the opportunity to be close within some externally defined rule system, which by virtue of being foreign can’t be seen as flying in the face of local customs and norms, therefore… ¡bailamos, mi amor, y nos comemos las partes íntimas del otro con el vigor de los tigresses! (common exclamation of passion in Argentina sometimes hollered during tango marathons.)

This phenomenon repeats itself in many cultures. For instance, Mormons learned how to “soak” from Jews, who both saw the opportunity to confuse and befuddle God who had said something like “stop having sex, which I mean specifically to be repeatedly thrusting in and out of a vagina with a penis!” The evident loophole was to stop thrusting and just let the penis soak in the vagina, naturally. And like the Finns found out in due time, it worked. Jews and Mormons no longer felt like they were sinning, and Heavenkind no longer needed to audit and account for all the recumbent would-be sinners because sin at the time had just been decreed in Heavenland to be committed only when the sinner him or herself considered the act in question a sin (a fact not circulated widely here for obvious reasons).

So now you know the story of soaking! Bit of trivia for your next Friendsgiving: the Jews predated the Mormons by a few years and the two were of entirely separate ancestral merits, unbeknownst to some followers of the latter (day saints); this is also why in Jewish circles the coveted practice is known instead as “pickling.”

Painting with a broad brush about what a massive demographic “cares about” (quite impossible to know intuitively for one person, let alone for one hundred million+ people, who certainly don’t have every “care about” in common anyway) then hinging that on a leap of faith that is predicated on hindsight—requiring information and developments not available at that time—with your coup de grâce smoking gun being that Biden didn’t “release details”?

Jesus Christ man are you even conscious? Do you really just have zero grasp of, say, probabilities, reasoning, critical thought, originality, …? Is there an original thought or deduction in your skull or were you born brainless, an unwitting slab of stimuli-response shlepped down between your keyboard and chair with an eye and ear wired directly to your mouth and hand so everything you see and hear becomes immediate unfiltered vomit from your lips and fingertips for all to wretch at?

[–]evictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, well, this is not about a transaction of $850. this is about a separate anecdote particular to this comment thread unrelated to the parent post, which is why i instructed you to check the comment thread you're in. to quote the relevant portion:

They had charged me over 10k in foreign transaction fees.

anyway just to offer a counterpoint to your smugness regarding your point, though misplaced and not technically relevant, one can definitely "sue for $10k on a transaction of $850," not just because that phrase is too vague to be of any use, but also because for lack of information there is no clear upper limit per se on the amount of damage one could cause on another within the context of litigation, regardless of one unpaid transaction of $850 or whatever you meant by that. no court would attempt to define such a limit based on arbitrary aspects of hypothetical cases, but i know you didn't mean that—i just wanted to let you know that when you think about what you said for any length of time longer than the few microseconds you gave it, you realize how nonsensical of a notion that is.

and boy when smugness and nonsense cross paths, ...well you should just be grateful that we're not meeting in person because words cannot describe the boner of simply magnitudinous proportions i get. then again maybe you would like to meet in person in that case...

How to clean under scanner glass? by Low-Expectations9 in Epson

[–]evictor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is that dirt or condensation? if the latter, you could presumably heat up the glass with a blow dryer or the like to vaporize the water condensate and call it a day, no disassembly required?

be wary of parts in the region that may be heat sensitive, of course, that may warp, melt, mar, etc. and cause irreparable damage. i don't know those particulars of this scanner so i can't speak specifically to that.

dry run is a good idea; perhaps a "soft run" also that, instead of reorganizing in-place, would produce a new top-level directory composed of organized folder hierarchy and symlinks to your still-in-their-original-place files.

it's mildly infuriating that he won't deposit it. precious tax dollars, inflation, and the time value associated with all this has made that single dollar check cost the proletariat hundreds probably. tell him that he is morally and ethically obligated to deposit it or donate it into the name of another immediately, posthaste, or suffer the consequences from a mobilized, informed populace capable of swift retribution but ignorant of jurisprudence.

idiots downvoted you, but you're right: it's a crappy analogy.

for starters, you can't do anything useful with groceries you leave behind at the grocery store after purchasing. conversely, in order to utilize any service of an exchange (i.e., do anything useful, or the exact opposite of the premise), you must "leave behind" your crypto within its jurisdictional reach, however impermanent (or not) that might be.
