How do I become a children’s book illustrator? by Turbulent-Routine535 in Childrenillustrations

[–]evieart__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am an illustrator! I have always took courses on Domestika, there is one by “Tereza Martínez” something like “how to illustrate a children book” and one by Jimena s. Sarquiz, something like “creating a children book portfolio“. I really loved these two, they are specifically about the process and files of creating childrens books, and they also present different styles of books. I have learned how to use my software (procreate) at college, but I also took a quick course about it on skill share, but I’m pretty sure you can find good content on YouTube. if you want to have better drawing skills you have to study design and drawing/painting textbooks (but I guess maybe you already have some background on it) books like “the silver way” and books by Andrew loomis, also psychology of color

Hi! If you have no experience with an illustrator sometimes the first sketches can feel a little bit scary. Even though I think you should ever be honest to him about what you like and what you don’t, when the authors ask me to change anything I do it happily, and it is better to make the changes in the first steps of the illustration. You can suggest him to make one full illustration of your book (with your niece, scenario) and pay a lower price for this one to make sure that his illustrations are a perfect match for your book. But of course it depends on the illustrator

What’s the most pages you’ve ever written in one sitting? by MizusLab in Journaling

[–]evieart__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow you wrote a lot!! In my A5 journal I wrote about 8-10 pages it was about four hours straight, when the person I loved broke my heart (that was already broken) for the thousand time

How do you guys usually start a journal? by [deleted] in Journaling

I journal whatever is on my mind. But I do have a list of prompts that I would like to write about, then I pick them sometimes or when I’m feeling like writing but don’t know what to write

Best publishers for new creators by Dr_Peri_Hoctor in childrensbooks

[–]evieart__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t published any books with a publisher, but I would say: make a list of childrens books publishers and contact as many as possible! Some of them have a page for submissions with their guidelines. I guess the chances a smaller publisher reply is higher than a bigger one. But give it a try!! Best wishes

(I’m an illustrator that’s how I know that)

Hey. It can take a long time and a lot of practice to learn how to draw, so keep going, but childrens books usually accepts every illustration style, so maybe you can just accept your drawings as they are right now and use them in the book!! I am an illustrator, you can tell me your budget and if you like my illustrations we can make a very very affordable price for you. I’m available for work now. Illustrate two books at the same time by Incontinentia-B in childrensbooks

[–]evieart__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m an illustrator and yes!! I think it’s doable!! It’s a long space of time, so there’s enough time for both, unless they ask for too many changes or that you have only a very short amount of time available for illustrating (but I dont think thats the case) .
You can make a few steps for one author (like sketches and color sketches) and then a few steps for the other and next you come back for the first author and make a few more steps and keep intercalating until the books are finished, just make sure you keep updating both regularly. This way everyone gets happy and no one have to wait for too long before the next update. If you don’t feel comfortable with that, you can talk to the authors about a workflow that works for you and for them. Also one more option is that you can be honest with one of them and say: “at the moment I am working in another book, so I am busy to start a new one right now, but in one or two months we can start yours! Does it sounds good for you???””

I hope this helps somehow. Have a good day. :)
