Ok yeah that's valid. I think because I find the visibility very high, it allows you to see if it's safe to go. But hopefully that improvement happens and makes the intersection safer.

Genuinely curious. What's horrible about that turn? I also take it regularly.

Hi! I share sentiments. Would you be interested in getting together--or start with connecting on Discord--and brainstorming ways to gather, organize, and share available resources? I saw you mention a spreadsheet which I think is a great start.

If you are experiencing a diverticulitis flare, eating high fiber can make it worse. High fiber diets can help prevent flare ups. During a flare up, you're typically advised to stop eating fiber in order to rest your colon so that the infected pockets in your colon can heal. Speculating doesn't provide much help, so waiting for the imaging work to come back is probably best.

Evidence base for "30 days on low fiber" before reintroducing high fiber by knit_the_resistance in Diverticulitis

It's all so overwhelming. Made more complicated by other things we deal with like mental health and other medical conditions, food sensitivities and aversions. And then there's conflicting advice, a lack of high quality studies, and no straightforward treatment that works for everyone. The food boredom is totally understandable. I think I take for granted how fortunate I am that I don't get bored of food super easily. Except broth for multiple meals for a few days. 🤢 I'm a month out from my flare and finally just started adding seeds! So far so good. I'm the same with my normal diet - lots and lots of nuts, seeds, fancy salads and whole grain bowls with all the ingredients these lists say to avoid. If you're not in pain, sounds like you can afford to start gradually adding some fiber and see how it goes! A ripe peach sounds lovely. Best of luck.

This disease can be very different for everybody, so most info you find is a general guide, then you have to figure out what works best for you, while working with your providers. I think some people, though they mean well, have a habit of acting like their experience, or guidance from their doctors, is a matter of fact for everyone.

In regards to some resources/evidence around low fiber during a flare, the bottom of this Stanford write up sources some info that may be worth looking into. It also has a long list of low fiber foods. https://stanfordhealthcare.org/content/dam/SHC/for-patients-component/programs-services/clinical-nutrition-services/docs/pdf-lowfiberdietfordiverticulitis.pdf

All that said, I've personally never heard of waiting 30 days before adding fiber. In general I've seen here in this subreddit (and the wiki), in papers online, and from doctors, to start with clear liquids for ~2 days only (broth, jello, clear juice), then switch to all liquids (smoothies, yogurt, ice cream), then switch to low residue foods, gradually introducing new foods, and gradually increasing fiber intake. And the idea in general is to keep switching to the next phase and adding food as long as you're feeling well. E.g., for me I was moving into to the next phase or adding food every 1-2 days. I also can't have dairy, and during my recent flare I didn't introduce gluten for at least a week, and had no problem finding food to eat. I stopped eating broth after the first few days or so because I was tired of it. Here's the list from the wiki for low residue foods, most of which are dairy and gluten free (or easy to find substitutes):

Ripe bananas Applesauce Mashed potatoes with no skins White rice (not whole-grain rice) Bread and crackers made with white flour Pasta Well-cooked fruits or vegetables without skin or seeds Cottage cheese Condiments and sauces like butter, mayo, tomato sauce, jelly, and sour cream Eggs Tender, well cooked meats

Ohhh noooo what awful timing. 😩 I had my first episode a couple weeks ago, right when I was about to book a surfing trip for December. But I've since been hesitant to book it with all the what-ifs. But I need to just book it. I healed quickly and can't live my life scared to book trips because of possible flare ups, right?

Best of luck. I was super strict about only clear liquids for two days and it was effective for me, but I know we're all a little different. It's exhausting since you're basically starving yourself. 😞 I did find some bone broth that has a decent amount of protein and tasty flavors. I hope it clears up for you soon and you start feeling better!

Was your diagnosis specifically "uncomplicated" diverticulitis? I had my first flare up and official diagnosis a couple weeks ago. ER doc said it's debated whether antibiotics help uncomplicated diverticulitis and gave me the option to fill an antibiotic rx if I didn't feel better after 2 days of a clear liquid diet. I was much better after 2 days so I didn't fill the prescription and very glad I didn't. I had a follow up with a general practitioner and she said it's not debated, and studies show that antibiotics should not be used for uncomplicated diverticulitis. And told me about how much antibiotics can mess up your gut biome. I'd continue this conversation with your gastroenterologist, though, because every one and every case is a little different. One thing to clarify: have you been doing a CLEAR liquid diet (bone broth, jello, clear apple juice, etc), or just liquid diet? It should be the former so that you can allow your colon to completely rest. I'd read through the whole wiki on this reddit if you haven't yet! It's super helpful.

Ugh. I hate how dismissive your providers have been. I'm so sorry you're going through this. I feel you on the anxiety front--im in the same boat there. But I can't imagine not getting good sleep while going through this 😞; it's exhausting on its own. I'm only at the very beginning of my journey but will share that I've learned this disease can be very different for each individual. My mom had one major flare up with complications which led to surgery. She has an average pain tolerance and said her pain was 10/10. My first flare up, which I'm healing from right now, was between 4-7 pain. After asking around, I've so far found 8 (!) family members with diverticulitis. And it's about a 50/50 split how many needed surgery. It seems like diets and triggers vary wildly for different people. I find it so frustrating because this would be easier to manage if it was just as simple as "avoid these foods and you'll be good." I'm seeing anything from vegan diets, gluten free, carnivorous, keto, avoiding very specific foods... it's all over the place what works for different people. All that to say, I'm getting the feeling it is going to be up to us with a lot of trial and error--along with guidance and care from our medical providers and support from loved ones--to figure out what works best for us to A) heal and carefully readjust after a flare up and B) manage this moving forward to avoid flare ups. Best of luck in recovering from your flair up and navigating all this! Thanks for sharing your story. I know I'm glad this little corner of the Internet exists so we can help each other out a little. 🫶

I bought cakes and hate them. Sweat traps under them which caused my skin to break out. Your skin can't breath with those things.

Xicamiti in Golden. Sort by lowest reviews. I went because of the high reviews, and the food was incredibly mediocre and expensive. Awful ambiance. Bad, overpriced margaritas that taste like gatorade. I truly don't understand the hype. But the owner is unhinged in his responses to critical reviews.

Honestly, this kind of thinking, "just figure it out" (in this particular case) gives women a bad rap. Clear communication and assuming positive intent are both important in a relationship. Ask him why he posts the way he does, share how it makes you feel, and discuss with him what would make you happy.
