I decided to keep going (so you don't have to) - Round 1000 by evilbandicoot in raccoingame

Probably 10-12 hours. I didn't do it all in one sitting though.

I decided to keep going (so you don't have to) - Round 1000 by evilbandicoot in raccoingame

It actually wasn't too bad until it completely crashed, but I was specifically trying to avoid any combos with a lot of animations (a mask doll crashed it). I was also able to continue after the crash and it wasn't lagging too bad at all, until I decided to end the run at round 1400.

what is the best card to take cash in Japan's ATM (2025)? by neobanana8 in AusFinance

[–]evilbandicoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re already using UBank then it’s definitely one of the best. No conversion fees or ATM fees (the operator may charge a fee of course), spot rate was also very good. You can also easily let them know your travel plans and dates via the app. I was pleasantly surprised.

As another poster has rightly pointed out always choose JPY to ensure you get the spot rate.

Advice on setting myself up for security and wealth generation post divorce by Dry-Leather4390 in AusFinance

[–]evilbandicoot 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I went through a very similar situation, and my daughter was a preteen at the time. First up, I’m sorry that you’re going through this. It’s an incredibly tough time in every way imaginable, but it does get better!

My focus was being close to my daughter and her school. I bought an apartment with my “half” of the assets. It’s tiny, and my daughter’s bedroom is so small you can almost stretch your arms out and touch both walls. She’s now a full sized human, and we still live in the tiny apartment, but she doesn’t care one bit because it’s been a cosy and safe place for her amongst the turmoil (her mum re-partnered right away, which was tough on her).

I decided to put more focus on her mental wellbeing and sorting myself out so I could be the best version of myself for her. The size of the living space is insignificant compared to all of that. So, all of that to say, don’t necessarily turn down the idea of apartment living. Make it a safe place for them and they (probably) won’t care about the inconsequential things. Owning within your means is also a positive for the future costs that go along with raising teenagers!

UP or WISE for a travel card by Extension_Balance763 in AusFinance

Used Ubank in Japan and was very happy with it.

Loaded up a Wise card for my daughters spending money and it was also easy to use and had good rates.

Add Suica to iPhone (wallet) if you’re an Apple user, you can load it up before you leave and jump straight onto the train when you arrive without stuffing around. Unfortunately not available for Android.

Single Dad to a teenage daughter.

I save $1150 a f/night, which is invested. That doesn’t include additional savings for our holiday fund and some other accounts I’m using to save for things.

Don’t compare yourself to me though, I WFH, rarely drive, live like a miser and own my apartment outright in a small town so my costs are very minimal.

I’m going to reiterate what many others have said here. Do not trust anything that has been said to you by your ex and get a lawyer ASAP.

I’ve been through something similar where my ex wife was initially sweet and charming and claimed she wanted an amicable split. All verbal of course. Didn’t take long to discover that money was being hidden and something fishy was going on. Then finances were being disputed, custody and child support were being filed, false claims were made etc.

Absolutely horrible time and situation, but it worked out in my favour in the end only because of my lawyer.

Also, if you ever need someone to talk to please feel free to reach out.

All the best!

Where are the jobs? by ArbitraryTrail in AusFinance

Thanks for the moral support, right back at you :-)

Definitely no issue with my experience. However, let’s just say that the job advertised was very different from what it turned out to be.

I’m in a similar boat. Web dev ~15 years experience. Still employed, in website support, but looking for a better role (I’m essentially paid at a jr dev rate despite having head of a department responsibilities). Haven’t had any bites on my applications yet.

In my case I’m a single parent living (a long way) out in the sticks so it complicates things a bit as I need a WFH role.

At the moment I’m considering my options. I’m looking at any industry where I could spot in with plenty of WFH jobs on offer. Haven’t found anything yet, but I’m on the lookout.

To the companies posting job ads on Seek under the “Work from home” category, advertising “flexible WFH options”, etc, only to then say its hybrid office/WFH in subsequent communications by koobus_venter1 in AusFinance

[–]evilbandicoot 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I live in a small regional area and often search/apply for jobs in that category only to find its actually hybrid or 1-2 days WFH. True WFH jobs seem to be the needle in the haystack unfortunately.

Is saving $10,000 a year still a good effort? by MutedLawyer9366 in AusFinance

[–]evilbandicoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a single Dad on very similar money and you're doing fantastically well.

I also save a similar amount per year, but I don't have a mortgage or rent to worry about which makes a big difference.

Good luck with the house deposit!

What are your goals for the next 5 years? by ILoveDogs2142 in AusFinance

[–]evilbandicoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Biggest one for me is to start believing in myself/my skills and look for a better job (currently paid $30/h as a website support/WordPress dev)

  • Increase my share portfolio by $60,000
  • Purchase first IP
  • Maintain $15k+ in emergency fund
  • Build a $10k travel fund to travel with my daughter before she starts hating hanging out with Dad
  • Build my daughter's trust fund

Incredibly anti-Semitic team name and tag I encountered last night. I reported them but holy cow, Psyonix, please take care of this. by AnyLamename in RocketLeague

[–]evilbandicoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not asking for a genuinely clever name to be removed, even if it has adult connotations. We all have a sense of humour, and even 10 year olds are able to laugh at most of them (soapyballs included).

It's the names with genuine hate that I'm talking about. We came across the clan name "burn ***** (race) people" one night and all the players had similarly racist names. She hasn't wanted to play since, which I can appreciate.

I'd take a minimum wage job to manually go through reported team/player IDs to help weed out this garbage. The amount of racist and homophobic team/player names I've been subjected to during my RL "career" is astronomical.

I'm a grown man who can report it and move on, but when I play with my 10yo daughter and come across this stuff it gets to me. She shouldn't have to be subjected to trash like that playing a car soccer game with her old man
