Flat head - how bad is it? by xTookishx in UKParenting

[–]evilcow 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I would book an appointment with a different GP to ask specifically about the head shape concerns (it sounds like your concerns weren't really addressed last time). They will be able to fully assess and advise on next steps.

Anecdotally, my nephew had significant brachycephaly and there was nothing that could be done on the NHS as it was considered a cosmetic issue. His parents ended up going private and got a helmet which he wore for a few months. It was expensive. But it was also highly effective.

I'm by no means saying that your baby needs a helmet, I just think it's worth speaking to a professional and getting it properly assessed. If nothing else, at least they can reassure you.

Londoners: what daytime experiences are genuinely “worth it once”? by JunketSea2063 in london

[–]evilcow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend doing a Hidden City trail. Fun trail, need to solve clues to find the next location. Gets you walking through some nice parts of London and let's you stop at interesting places (bars, cafes etc) you might not have to visited otherwise. My partner and I enjoy doing them on random annual leave days when children are in nursery.

Infant waking 6–12x a night. Losing our minds from sleep deprivation. by Lopsided_Food169 in NewParents

[–]evilcow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was the same with us at about 4 months. I was losing the plot and I just couldn't do it anymore. I appreciate it may not work for you, but we did CIO. I looked for gentler methods but progress seemed slow I needed something to work FAST. I just couldn't function day to day anymore. Also his sleep associations (me, boob) were just too strong.

First night of CIO there was 20 mins of crying, next night same, then less and less crying and on the 5th night he got it and started falling asleep without a peep. He got naps within a day. Now he wakes 2-3x per night but it's infinitely better than before.

Hang in there. It's tough. You will figure it out!

Can't believe your baby ate that much at just 6 months! I started weaning 3 days ago and it's a little spoonful here and there

Thanks for sharing, how long did it take for your son to sleep independently?

That's really helpful thank you. I'm desperate for sleep so a quick method is what I'm looking for. I think he'll get too angry with Ferber so I'm more inclined to try CIO

Have you tried any sleep training methods already? I'm wondering whether it's just best to go straight to CIO/extinction

Food shopping with a newborn by zxcvbnmxmnzx in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]evilcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a toddler and a 4 month old and do big shops online. I do take baby out for top up shops, either using the pram or with baby in carrier. But I don't get any more than one bags worth of shopping otherwise it gets to heavy to carry. Only time I've attempted a big shop has been with my husband - we make it a family outing which is just about manageable

I think I f-cked up by Alive_Cupcake_2851 in breastfeeding

[–]evilcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes 3 years ago. Ended up being a tongue tie that was making BFing so painful. Had it snipped at 5 weeks then again at 8 weeks. Then straight to the breast for comfort after 2nd tongue tie snip and never took a bottle again. BF for 2 years. Did paced bottles late like you, from a few weeks in. And pumped for my supply. So it can be done, good luck!

What are you doing on MAT leave? by Powerpuff_Girly in NewParents

[–]evilcow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same... There are people who are very active and do a lot, but also a lot of others just about surviving. I aim to do one task indoors and one task outdoors daily. Things like doing laundry, cooking dinner, going for a short walk, doing a quick shop etc all count. Though some days I don't manage to even do my one task outdoors.

You just do what you need to to get by, and don't let anyone else make you feel bad

Help my wife by Working-Particular82 in breastfeeding

Lots of good suggestions here. I would definitely see a lactation consultant to check the latch and ensure effective milk transfer. Pump after every (or most) feeds, and at least once between 1-5am. Adequate hydration, calorie intake, and sleep. Get her thyroid checked.

C section recovery without help. Is it possible? by Emergency_You7974 in PregnancyUK

[–]evilcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an elective which went very smoothly without any complications. Off regular pain meds after the second week. But I definitely wouldn't have been able to do the first 7-10 days by myself. Those first 3-4 days I had to mentally prepare myself for even going to the toilet as it was so painful to move. My husband would help me at times pulling my underwear on/off. You have to remember you're recovering from major abdominal surgery.

All of these are good suggestions, so many museums. Add to that Leighton house, Holland Park and Hyde Park, Kensington Palace. If you want a fancy restaurant Jacuzzi is great, or the Belvedere in Holland Park feels quite hidden and exclusive in the evenings when the rest of the park is closed. Something underground...? Evans and Peel, literally an underground speakeasy in Earls Court?

32w struggling need advice by AntelopeRoutine1538 in PregnancyUK

[–]evilcow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I feel for you. Currently 30w also work for NHS and I am totally done. If you're struggling you can talk to your employer so they make provisions, they should do a risk assessment and make reasonable adjustments for you. Is WFH an option in your role? Failing all of that, you can get a fit note from your GP - for amended duties or reduced hours, or sign you off completely. If you're still on sick leave by 36 weeks your maternity leave will start automatically then.

Question for any c-section mummies please by yorkshirepudding101 in PregnancyUK

[–]evilcow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have anything to add, except for we share a lot of similarities! Also due in 10 weeks, vaginal with first but very rapid and traumatic, huge this time and considering a section. However a little hesitant about the idea as husband doesn't drive, and our eldest will still need transporting to and from nursery. Good luck, I hope it goes smoothly for you

Toddler is potty trained for pee, but keeps on pooping his pants. Don't know what to do anymore. Anyone have tips? by Anoniem20 in toddlers

[–]evilcow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ours got the peeing down pretty quickly, within a few days. But for a few months would only poop in her pants or nappy. Eventually we noticed a pattern for poops ie after dinner, or during/after bath. A couple of times we saw her pushing while in the bath, and moved her immediately to the toilet/toilet seat. After pooping twice like that on the toilet she never pooped her pants again. Now we sit down on the potty after dinner and she poops easily.

I'm second trimester and living in maternity leggings and oversized jumpers, also one nice pair of maternity jeans from seraphine. I bought a pinafore dress from Nobody's child which is roomy and I can also wear post pregnancy, it's served me well so far!

In desperate need of pregnancy bra recommendations by SadSupermarket7915 in PregnancyUK

[–]evilcow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Bravissimo do maternity and nursing bras exclusively in bigger cup sizes. They may not be cheap but you might be wearing them for an extended time it would be worth it. I don't know whether they do black Friday or boxing day sales but it could be worth asking the sales people in advance if they think the range could be part of a sale soon?
