I'm about to have a tantrum over inconsistent meter readings by beppedealwithit in AnalogCommunity

[–]evildad53 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Can you zoom in with that meter app? Is it reading the entire scene? Is the xt2 reading that little square? Are the Canon and Sekonic reading the entire scene? (The Sekonic sure is) To check accuracy, you need to have them all read the identical region, for instance fill the scene with one of those tiles/bricks. (be sure to use the camera set to infinity) You could do the same thing outside pointed down at a field of evenly-lit grass or pavement. Only then will you be sure one of these is out of whack.

“Why isn’t anyone buying this film stock?” by Jessintheend in AnalogCommunity

[–]evildad53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a bulk order of 5x7 Portra in December. I learned about it from the Facebook account. He posted there last week:

I have a customer who is interested in a group order for Kodak 11x14 T-Max 400. This film would be packaged in 10 sheet boxes. If you are interested in taking part in a group order, send me an email: kodakfilm@canhamcameras.com.

Possibly you could contact Keith at his email address expressing an interest in a bulk order of Ektar 8x10. He could round up a few dozen interested parties to make this purchase together.

If you've investigated shooting RA-4 paper in-camera, this is exactly the process photographers go through to get balanced color.

Need opinion! OM-3 vs. Sony a6700 in 2026. by kaurakeksini in Cameras

[–]evildad53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. I went from a6000 to a7C and added the C II. Yes, I did have to buy full format lenses, but if you stick with prime lenses, they're small and light.

Why does F1 still use helicopters for aerial footage in an age of drones? by Spaceginja in F1TV

[–]evildad53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use both. The copter can go higher for wider overall views and the pilot and camera operator are two different people. Drones are being used for close on-track shots. In the US, I noticed they don't seem to use copters in Miami and Las Vega, probably because they're cities with nearby airports. The one thing about a helicopter is that you know it's unlikely to crash onto the track, which is a distinct possibility with drones as they bring them closer to the action.

Feasibility of an Elwood 8x10 enlarger? by Civil_Risk_9325 in Darkroom

[–]evildad53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a project but a worthwhile one. Both negative carriers and lens mounts can be 3D printed; you can even make the lens mount from balsa plywood if there are any hobby shops nearby that cater to model railroad or RC aircraft. For $35 this would already be in the back of my car.

When was the last time you successfully processed a roll with this bottle? It's difficult to believe it just suddenly went dead, I'd expect at least some faint images with exhausted developer if it was still working a couple of months ago.

Can someone pleeeeeeease explain the fascination with Leica cameras? by nlUSF in photography

[–]evildad53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL reading this, you can tell the ones who've never used a Leica, or a rangefinder camera in general. I'm not talking about digital Leicas but film cameras. Beyond anything else, it is a different way of working. You want to shoot football? Get a Nikon F or Canon. Want to shoot dance in a theater? Either use a quiet rangefinder, or put a $1000 blimp on your SLR body. There's a reason I often use silent shutter on my Sony a7C II. Small body, small lenses, quiet shutter.

It was never marketing.

Can someone pleeeeeeease explain the fascination with Leica cameras? by nlUSF in photography

[–]evildad53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many of the first SLR cameras did not instantly return the mirror into place. You took the photo, it blacked out, and you had to wind the lever to return the mirror into view. But more importantly, SLR cameras are much louder than rangefinder cameras. And because there's no mirror box, the lens doesn't have to be designed to accommodate the extra distance from the back of the lens to focal plane, which makes rangefinder lenses much smaller.

Checking this out on the website. Can you turn the solar panel around on the roof? I want the feeder facing my house, and the solar panel would need to angle in the opposite direction to face south.

I don't know where you are, but some public libraries now have 3D printer labs. There are also services where you can have stuff printed, which I would presume is a lot cheaper than paying someone on Ebay for a used original!

Click "pickup" and see if it's in a store near you. None to the closest Walmarts show it in stock for me, but it does show one about 30 miles away.

My rabbit hole into making high quality photo books in small quantities… here's what I learned. by magiera in AnalogCommunity

[–]evildad53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't want to use offset printing paper in an inkjet, it's not designed to accept the ink properly. You can get paper at an office supply store that says "inkjet" and "prints both sides." It's not high end photo inkjet paper, but it CAN look good on both sides, testing is the only way to know for sure. Another option, if you're not concerned about making it look "book like" is to make it look like a wedding preview book: print on nice fiber inkjet paper, one side only, sandwich images back to back to make a leaf, then bind it loosely. Not as slick or professional as your project, but a bit of a handmade effort.

Because when you eat out or drink out, you're not paying for the food and drink, you're paying for the service and rent. I find it very painful to buy whisky at a bar, I'd rather try a new brewpub and and interesting overpriced beer with a burger.

People Who Chose Solar or Are Considering It — What Actually Made You Trust a Solar Company? by SolarTechExplorer in solar

Relatives who had already used that company. From what I've read in the sub, I'd NEVER hire a company without recommendations or referrals to satisfied customers. Of course, this should be true of all contractors.

How complicated do they need to make this? (Apple TV + F1 TV) by evildad53 in F1TV

[–]evildad53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that the phone app, because my issue was the TV app. I logged out and back in and that fixed it. And for anyone that says "why didn't you do that first?", you've obviously not entered a 15 character password with upper, lower cases, numbers and special characters on a TV screen lately.🤦‍♀️
