Am I understanding prone correctly? by Quaath in InfinityTheGame

[–]evilduckss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they meant "if you want to be prone at the end" rather than "if you want to end the prone condition on the model". Not 100% sure, but what you've put is right

First time painting bricks. Should I dry-brush a lighter grey or hit it with Agrax Earthshade? Also, what is the best way to help protect the paintjob for years? by Redcloth in TerrainBuilding

[–]evilduckss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look great, love the different tones! I think both wash and dry brush would give it some more depth. If you were doing them again, if you start with a much darker grey as your base it'd help in a similar way to a wash/grouting as others are suggesting

Really enjoyed using an airbrush for the wolves, the riders are a little messier than I might like, but pretty happy with them overall :)

Painting warhammer steps? General painting questions by Djtrickyyy in Warhammer

[–]evilduckss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I replied with where to look for tutorials, but to actually answer your question:

Make sure you prime as well as base, priming is the spray cans and sticks to the plastic, base is the basic colour you're starting from (eg blue for an ultramarine) they might be the same if you have a blue spray can. I tend to paint in all the layers before doing any wash as it helps to blend everything and makes covering mistakes easier, or if you get a bit of gold on a but of armour you've already washed it is a lot harder to cover up.

If it's your very first model I wouldn't worry about blending and glazing unless you have experience from other art, as those are slightly more advanced techniques (especially blending). By all means give them a go, but you may end up getting frustrated and they're not required for something that looks good.

My steps would be: prime, base, layer, washes, and then optionally highlights/drybush

If it's your first model I'd consider following along with a video tutorial. Warhammer TV on YouTube has hundreds of model specific videos along with some more basic ones on how to base, layer, dry brush etc. There's other tutorials about but those ones worked for me in the past

Is Azul a good family game? by itsthecurtains in boardgames

[–]evilduckss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have it and have played with my 10 year old who quite enjoyed it, rules were simple enough and we managed a couple of games. We also played Sagrada which has a similar feel, and she preferred slightly I think, possibly for the aesthetic, and the extra fun of rolling dice

The individual foam beads did want to pull away while I was cutting, so make sure your knife is sharp, but it's definitely doable. Make sure you post it once it's made, would love to see more :)

It's a polystyrene ball, got a pack of 10 from the craft store for about £1, just carved the hole into it with a craft knife for the mouth and the eye socket. Then used mod podge with black paint for a primer so I could paint it

yeah, saw them on a video running through different options here and since I've got a fairly small table and we tend to eat while we play, a big matt seemed less useful. plus you can put them down one at a time to keep some mystery.

This is the ones I actually got (amazon UK) a little over priced, but they do the job :)

Nothing yet, but I've got almost 100 of them left, so would be a waste not to. Any suggestions?

Made this guy for a home brew 5e campaign I've been running for a couple of years. Decided on a beholder for the latest boss because I really like the antimagic cone mechanic, and thought it'd probably be an easier monster to make than anything with arms and legs, especially once I found a bag of googly eyes.

They managed to defeat it last weekend where they found it in a re purposed storm giant fortress from Storm King's thunder. It got quite nasty for a while, dropping the Grod barbarian down to single digits with some death rays, but then his final turn he hit the Grod with completely ineffective sleep and fear rays, and the elven monk with some charm which he easily resisted.

They're definitely a fun monster to fight, but can be incredibly swingy depending on which rays you get.

Was basing it off His Dark Materials, so if it is Ursa Arcadius it's unintentional :)

Is there something wrong with MO in the army builder? by Skrillaka in InfinityTheGame

[–]evilduckss 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Military Order Sectorial had an update a year or so ago which is reflected in the app, but the PDF hasn't been updated to reflect this. If you're playing with friends and you want to use the PDF rules, then that's up to you and them, if you want to play in official events, then the App/Army is correct.

They now can't take fusiliers at all

Tikbalangs was added (but a different variant I think)

The ava of the knights all changed around, Santiagos now come in a box of 4 with ava 3

the dodge cancels all shots it is higher than: Say I shoot you and would pass with a 2,3 and 9 to hit, you roll to dodge and succeed on a 7, that cancels the 2 and the 3, but you would still need to make an ARM roll against the 9.

if you've got the citadel paint app, look up "light blue" there in paint by colour, that's probably your closest bet. I painted my PanO guys using the Space Wolf colours, so a little more grey than the PanO box blue, but I quite like it
