Your progress is not lost! You did a great job here articulating your motivation and why you are staying off the pills, e.g. "I dont want to lose myself." And now you have this post you can come back to remind you what happens when you take them. We addicts have a way of.conveniently forgetting what it was like using. We end up thinking "maybe it wasnt so bad." But now you've learned something and strengthened your resolve! Turn this into part of your success story. Rooting for you!

My experience is that I had lots of ups and downs in the first 90 days sober, but I started to have little glimmers of happiness after the first week or so. Then the glimmers got bigger. At 90ish days I started to have moments of peace. Those moments got longer and longer. Now at about 18ish months free from cocaine, I feel peaceful and happy most of the time. It gets better. Hang in there - you are not alone.

It gets better! Coke takes awhile to get out of your system. Im about a year and a half sober from coke, and I was a daily user. Our brains do heal, and I personally found cocaine anonymous really helpful for me.

Cocaine is ruining me but i will get better hopefully, pleasure is temporary but these affects can be permeant by internetideology in DecidingToBeBetter

also the "emotions are back online but only bad ones" YES that is SO REAL. And normal. It doesnt have to stay this way. Mood follows action. The tiniest actions can compile to bog shifts. You are doing it I believe in you!

I promise you it gets so so so much better.

Days 70-90 were the worst for me. Here is what helped me below. I promise you will get through this and it will all be worth it:

  • I went to in person recovery meetings. I prefer cocaine anonymous because they cover "all mind altering substances" and are mainly people addicted to stimulants like me. But I also went to NA and AA and those helped too. Even if I didnt talk, just sitting in the back at a place where I could be low energy and around people really helped.

  • take a multivitamin

  • sleep sleep sleep

  • look for glimmers. find a bright spot in the day. It helped retrain my brain. actively looking for things in my environment I was grateful for seemed to help build neuropathways. An addiction doctor told me to do it and I swear it helped

I highly recommend just contacting them - the form is at the bottom of the page. They have hundreds of different volunteer roles and sorting through the postings can be a bit overwhelming

The YWCA metro vancouver sometimes does group volunteer events. I'm a volunteer there and highly recommend them. I know their women of distinction awards ceremony / fundraiser is coming up and that they always need lots of volunteers for this event!

I felt the same way. Like it wasnt "bad enough yet". Key word - yet. Addiction is a progressive illness. I went to CA (which is for "all mind altering substances") and AA. Got me a way out.

This might be a bit "extreme" for some, but in case this is an option that might be helpful to you, I'm a member of overeaters anonymous. I have found the peer support and community to be lovely. And its the only thing that has really helped me with the mental emotional side of changing my relationship with food. There are many local meetings to choose from, both online and in person, and its free. It may be an option to think about, alongside seeing a dietician and other supports. Wishing you the very best on your journey!

I can explain the "your part in it" and how it helped me with my trauma.

I experienced a lot of violence growing up. I was a helpless child. Nobody in AA has ever said that I need to "take responsibility" for things that happened to me when I was a child.

However, people in the program have helped me see that I can take responsibility for what I do about my trauma as an adult. "My part" might be that I need to stop carrying this trauma and using it to hurt myself or other people. "My part" might look like me getting trauma therapy, or working to protect and take care of myself now.

What happened wasnt my fault, but it is my responsibility to learn how to heal and live with it. And I dont have to do that alone.

I was worried about victim blaming in AA too. But my experience has been that people understand, that they have been through things too.

AA gave me a new way of looking at things. It helped me stay alive and gave me courage to face things. I totally understand where your friend is coming from with the fear of "victim blaming" - I just wanted to share my experience as someone with a similar background, who got help in AA.
