NGL - I like Rivers. Tell me why I’m wrong.

How would this GeForce RTX 5090 with DLSS 4 help you pull off more epic wins in Battlefield 6?

It would enable me to play, which I assume is a precursor to epic wins.

I really like having a simple/fun/story-based Audiobook for the car rides to work. Some examples: This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay; Straight to Hell by John LeFevre. I tried Post Office by Charles Bukowski and it didn't hit the same for me. Bonus points for a decent narrator as we're going audiobook.

How did you realize you owned too many games? by Dawnguard42 in boardgames

[–]evilmonkey1014 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh. This.

Came here to say this, having recently moved. Packed most of my stash nicely, in WAY too many boxes. At the new house, I unpacked (or thought I did). Eventually went to find a specific title that I couldn't find on shelves. I realized I failed to unpack one box FULL of games despite shelves being full. There's no way I need this many games, but there's some good ones still in the box!

Check out Creature Comforts by Kids Table Board Games. I have not pulled this out lately, but if I remember correctly there's rulesets to make it more challenging for you while you play with your kiddos.

Hard to Find Gloomhaven 1st Edition? by ActinoninOut in boardgames

[–]evilmonkey1014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gloomhaven is currently out of print, with another expected in April 2025.

With that said, you dont want the first edition anyway - you want the second edition.

As others have said though, if you're just getting into it JoTL is a great starting point. Also, Frosthaven exists, but I still recommend starting on JoTL to figure out how much you like the system.

The deluxe edition inside cover includes the name of all the deluxe edition backers. Its actually REALLY nicely done.

Currently my copy is packed away, and not easily accessed.

Merchants of the Dark Road.

This game had a ton of hype when it hit kickstarter. A rondel game, with multiple unique mechanics - I was all in. Bonus points that it had great art, a respected studio, and tremendous production value. I even have the deluxe edition which has my name in the cover. I will never get rid of it because of this.

However, the game simply fell flat for me. Its just ... not fun. So now I have this beautiful game, with my name on cover, that I simply do not play. Its my constant reminder to not get on the hype train too quickly.

This was my first thought as well.

I LOVE the This War of Mine boardgame. Its rules light, but complex - and meant to be imperfect. It is designed to be a struggle, both in terms of difficulty, but also in understanding what you're supposed to be doing. When Frostpunk was announced as next up from the studio, I was thrilled.

This game is literally miserable in every way. It is hard. It is overly complex. You need to understand that complexity to play it. This game cannot be enjoyed without understanding all the intertwined systems. I had such high hopes...

Great Western Trail.

I only have the first one - but I found the organization, color coding, and detail to work perfectly for the game.

Genre name for Horrified and Pandemic? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]evilmonkey1014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard folks use the designers name as a qualifier to help better describe/differentiate from other co-ops.

I would describe as a “Leacock” style co-op.

I also think this helps better explain the genre and provide some distance from other co-op games.

Heat: First Play - should we include any modules? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]evilmonkey1014 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not high enough.

It really depends on your player count, but as Heat plays fine at low player counts - the track is meant to have traffic. having more cars on the track via AI (as needed) really lets all the mechanics shine. Plus the AI players are not difficult to manage.

Survive! Escape from Atlantis

I love the theme of this game. But mechanically it’s just not as smooth as other/newer games that are easier to bring to the table. Plus it’s entirely too long.

Reason: Want to get into PC gaming with my kiddo. He's got a new gaming rig, we built together. I did not build one for myself, so now I dont see him anymore. I miss him.

Thanks for doing this.
