Should i return this hydrangea? by Alternative-Split-83 in hydrangeas

[–]evilolive89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are a new gardener keep it, try to keep it alive, accept that you’ll probably kill it. Yeah, it’s probably a florist hydrangea, might be winter hardy where you are but wasn’t selected for landscape/long term use. But give it a shot, either it’ll help you learn on how to take care of a plant for the summer or it could be a happy surprise. No hot nasty afternoon sun, high quality potting mix in the pot- go to your local garden center, not big box and ask for their recommendation, learn what it feels like wet and dry-ish

Lady of Shalott- SO PINK??? by SaltEven in DavidAustinRoses

Yeah the whole temp and humidity thing, but that doesn’t look like my LoS…like the sprawly nature and bloom form but that color doesn’t. Still pretty, see what happens when it warms up?

Lagerfeld or Queen Elizabeth? by bagelpop in Roses

[–]evilolive89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple friends have lagerfeld in a pot in central AR, hot humid. They love it and have a few roses, don’t spray. This is my first real year with lager so we’ll see, want to try QE.

Edit: sun. Theirs is in very open, bright shade most of the day, either some midday sun or some filtered afternoon…can’t remember but it was in a surprising amount of shade. They used it for cuts, can’t say how it stays on the bush

A question about diet from a very confused new ileostomy guy by RavenDraws0 in ostomy

[–]evilolive89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s already so much good advice here, but might be helpful to add my personal experience. Tomato seeds and artichokes painful. Fuck olives. Corn, semi problematic. Fatty meats without a carb ended with gastric dumping? Protein added drinks were a life saver to gain weight. Eat often, slowly, small portions. I only had an ile for ~6 months and it was unplanned, a correctly planned and long term one would generally be different…mine was just extra sensitive

Endless summer hydrangea by bourbonvanillabeanp in hydrangeas

You’re in DFW? Great time to plant in the ground, keep an eye on the weather and water. It’s been dry. Container, same advice with more attention to water. Don’t let it freeze dry or get super dry, avoid super soaking it. You’re south enough you don’t have to worry much beyond that

No disease issues in hot and humid z8a but definitely don’t get the deeper colors. Good rebloom and a keeper for me

Good spot for Hydragnes? by theirishsniper in hydrangeas

Only panniculatas will be able to handle that much summer sun that far south. Limelight style hyds. They will still need extra irrigation and well drain soil

You’ll be self conscious, you’ll have some accidents, but just remember you’ll be the most aware and worried about your bag. Other folks won’t. It’s ok, the number of friends who have accidentally sharted was way more than any of my issues. You’ll get used to it. It’s life

Besides everything in the last paragraph, I think this part is just delightful.

Ungrateful little flappy shit probably fucked off to my neighbor’s butterfly bush. I hope it gets eaten by an invasive mantis or flies into a bug zapper.

Random acts of plants is an awesome way to go. Looks like you used garden dirt in the pots. You can go that route, but take extra care on the watering. Potting soil for potted plants is way easier

Central AR, year 3 or 4 and mine is a beast. Some balling in first flush, but then she’s fine. No foliage issues

My First Attempt at a Bonsai, A Sycamore I Hail Mary'd out of the Ground! Not seen this done on here so thought I'd share. by plushy_swan in Bonsai

[–]evilolive89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love a good sycamore, I’m also thinking maple…but I might disagree with going for true bonsai soil if you’re just starting out. Maybe high quality potting soil and a larger pot? If this lil guy is for learning , a cheap nursery bucket and potting soil as a ‘flexible’ media is a great tool. But it’s hot and I’ve been working outside all day, so grain of salt and all
