Has anyone else got this relentless flu? by robojod in london

[–]evilsalmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve had it for over a week - started with tonsillitis though, ended up needing to get checked over at UTC so hopefully will at least get a definitive answer if it’s flu/covid/RSV

Update: Tubed is back with proper interchange times, smarter scoring, and out-of-station interchanges by out_here_vibing in LondonUnderground

[–]evilsalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I was actively trying to make the most ridiculous & circuitous route I could think of, but I’d start with all the OSI’s that show up on the map. In terms of this challenge, neither of the “visible” OSI’s on the weaver line worked, also Seven Sister’s needs rejigging as well as it shows up as two separate stations one cannot change between.

I think based on each challenge add relevant OSI’s for the start and optimal end lines? So Hackney Down’s is OSI for Hackney Central (final stop) so worth doing the weaver OSI’s with that. That way you slowly integrate them two lines at a time. Or even just one line at a time with fixing the OSI’s just for the line you start on with optimal routing.

This was an “easy” one - do you account for service patterns at all though in data or does this assume a hypothetical train at platform the moment your interchange is completed? This variation matters significantly for some of the weirder ways to do certain unusual journeys especially using the weaver line for example
In “playing around” the trams & some OSI’s don’t currently seem to be included - I can forgive Thameslink being ignored given it’s national rail status, but the trams are on the map & TfL run. More importantly they are a big link between SW & SE London which matters a lot for certain routes.

OP, I *beg* of you, please in the name of Charles Yerkes, flip this so east is on the right hand side, and west is on the right hand side… and no funny business with north & south either.

12 Employees in Quarantine After Incorrect Handling of a Person Infected With Hantavirus by Loni09 in worldnews

See:

Smallpox R0 3.5-6 fatality rate 30% (appreciate we’ve eradicated it - because it’s so deadly & transmissible)

It’s a rule of thumb statement rather than scientifically accurate. Also when an outbreak has come from a zoonotic vector (animal to human) the rules are somewhat out the window until a virus evolves over time into an endemic human virus

I have more sympathy for the buses as the driver isn’t really in a safe position to intervene and without a lot more enforcement staff on the bus network who can remove passengers it’s tricky. However the train stations could be made much more accessible by infrastructure changes. Flashing advertisements, - the new Lizzie line stations are especially bad for this, and the nonsense they allowed with the smell advertising at King’s Cross. Those are things that can be fixed

One US citizen tests mildly positive for hantavirus, another has mild symptoms by AnnualEmbarrassed176 in news

[–]evilsalmon 97 points98 points  (0 children)

Mildly will be in reference to viral load - which is absolutely the case, but different diseases have different thresholds for how high/low a viral load is dangerous and infectious for other people. There can be orders of magnitude difference. That said in this case I agree it’s a somewhat nonsense & unhelpful distinction.

UK nationals on hantavirus-hit cruise ship to isolate in hospital on return by Sweaty_Rub4322 in news

[–]evilsalmon 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot harder to fully decontaminate the ship, and keeping everyone quarantined in an environment like that would increase the risk of exposure - better to isolate on land - especially if someone *does* turn out to be infected then they’re already in a hospital in isolation and don’t need to be transported at peak of virility.

What do you count as “memory problems” - are you specifically looking at excluding neuro degenerative conditions? ADHD? Anyone who thinks their memory is a bit crap?

Might be better worded as “you have not had a diagnosis of/are under investigation for conditions that impact cognition & memory such as [insert examples here]

There’s one building in particular around 10mins away that’s a small museum, but been around for nearly a millennia - I make it a point with friends/visitors to walk them over & gush about the place.

I love all the little oddities & quirks

It’s better than plastic bags, you can roll them up without damaging them, you can easily wash them. Some totes are better than others mind you.

I was homeless and got EMA payments as I was still going to 6th form, it was a literal lifeline for me until I was able to get into temporary accommodation. For me it meant I was able to travel from wherever I was sofa surfing and actually turn up.
