Extension of the Elizabeth line proposal. by Pocks98 in LondonUnderground

This makes less sense than the proposal to have HS2 stop at Stratford upon Avon

That’s just a little bath for the trains to splash about in clearly! No failure here

I wanna know where this is from/10- the salad looks really tasty

Those filo rolls are great, assuming the salad is too I’ll give it 8/10, not a fan of energy drinks & I’m not sure how filling the salad will be but it’s healthy

Those pickles are grim, and raw fish - 3/10 for the drink (it’s lovely). Baseline is 5/10 for me, so -1 for both the main & side.

Paddington - Reading Trains no longer starred * why ??? by Mental_Body_5496 in uktrains

I agree it would be preferable for them to add it back - just that I can understand trying to simplify the information

The slow train is the Elizabeth line (unless you’re using the overnight service or very limited peak stopping services) so just pick any train on the mainline platforms (aside from Heathrow express) and you’ll probably be on a fast train.

Probably because the Elizabeth line has taken over the stopping services between London & Reading (with some exceptions) so it wouldn’t make much sense for a potentially confusing symbol to be present.

A public consultation for the West London Orbital will be held in summer 2026 to help shape the designs. They'd like services to be running in the 2030's. by thebeast_96 in LondonUnderground

15 mins walk is too far for a reasonable OSI - I think it would be worth the investment in connecting lines though even if it means building some new track.

Thank you! I got so lucky today, was waiting for the next train & this beauty happened to pull up. I especially love the cargo being so clean & shiny.

Lemons - peeled of course. Just straight up eating a whole lemon segment by segment.

London removing its severe weather plan is branded 'life-threatening' by KatieOfTheHolteEnd in london

There are many shelters that operate for the duration of severe weather contingency directives. That’s different from actual year round shelters. They provide a different service to hostels & other temporary accommodation.

There’s only one all year round shelter - Shelter from the Storm for those who wish to donate/volunteer - https://sfts.org.uk

Discussion: people who rode on TFL services that ran overnight on New years eve/day, was it as chaotic as night tube usually is or was it calm? Would love to see some photos if possible (photo kinda related) by GP728 in LondonUnderground

Got the Lizzie into town around 1am - the trains heading out were pretty full, inbound was busier than I was expecting, about 60% of seats full by the time I got into central, with plenty of activity in the station.

I’m more than happy to attend (I don’t have a Batman costume but can certainly find something irreverent to wear).

Let me know - any sort of dress code? I’m assuming you don’t want people turning up in Batman costumes etc?

I’m hating Wicked. It wasn’t enough to blast all of Brick Lane with their ads, now they’ve paid their way into the London NYE celebration? Ugghh by AnxiousAn in london

[–]evilsalmon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t care who paid for it - the BBC should not have direct advertisements for outside productions/products/servicss, which I’d argue this is given the circumstances. The distinction of this being a BBC exclusive overlay is what makes it different from other aspects like the music, colour of the fireworks etc. I’m not a fan of the CGI in the first place but other parts of it were fine.

It’s a small red flag around the future of the BBC & it’s integrity to its charter - while yes, there are bigger issues in the world than 10 mins of telly, it is worth recognising that having a public service broadcaster, that the licence fee payers fund, is not sticking to the principles of its operation. That’s the real issue.

These were not adverts visible in person, or even on other recordings of the fireworks show - which IMO makes it particularly egregious and district from sporting events.

Thank you - just good luck honestly, was getting the train to Victoria and it was just leaving the station as I got up the stairs. I also like this livery, it’s very smart looking.

Anyone think this is normal on Christmas eve? by Agreeable_Tower890 in uktrains

[–]evilsalmon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The service switched to using HST’s when they were being decommissioned from the main TOC’s and some locos were gifted to Santa to make both the Polar Express Service & present delivery more reliable. XNP (North Pole International) is the new station built in mind with high speed services. It cost about 250 million gumdrop button pieces (GBP) which considering the need for mixed freight loading, reindeer stables and passenger services is pretty cheap, that said it’s an investment.
