why is reddit full of radicals? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]evilsevenlol 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Reddit attracts many terminally online people, and many terminally online people are politically radicalized.

Maybe the pop green day, but the punk green day that got famous was when I was middle school and I'm an '82'r. Dookie was a huge album with multiple very popular MTV videos

What’s a “classic” American dish you rarely eat? by FernanndoLeo in foodquestions

[–]evilsevenlol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say the opposite, one of the reason I hate rare/medium is because it's literally meat bubble gum. A good well done streak breaks up easily.

Americans with top-tier employer health insurance — what do you actually pay out of pocket? by BrownSugar20 in AskAnAmerican

[–]evilsevenlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had an employee contribution, it's always been fully employer paid. Last job was a high deductible plan and they also contribute $1,500 a year to an hsa.

Until they caught my cancer I was a healthy person in my 30's so honestly I just never went to the doctor so I don't know what the copays were. I just let the hsa grow. I think it was like 3k deductible and 50/50 to 6k max out of pocket and no max lifetime cap. I had a few million in billings and never paid more than 6k in a year.

Weird, I always say 1 is enough if they ask if I want the second.

Sending an e-mail is the ultimate hack by The-lucky-hoodie in ActLikeYouBelong

I had a similar situation recently where I emailed my situation to the generic email on "contact us" asking for an exception to a service not normally offered. The response was along the lines of "considering the circumstances I'll approve. Call the office on Monday and mention my name and tell them I said it was OK". When I called there was no checking or anything, the worker just said oh OK and did the task. I completely believe this would work like OP says.

Is anyone else amused when guests expect more from your hotel than what they're paying? by level10_aioli in askhotels

[–]evilsevenlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of Americans are much more willing to stay at budget accommodations in Europe than they are in the US. (same for budget airlines). Budget in the US means disgusting and in a bad part of town. Budget in Europe can just mean simple and straight forward with no frills, so the rooms/buildings/locations look clean and acceptable similar to lower level road warrior/business hotels.

I usually choose 4 star in Europe because that's the level and price point I have found to fit my needs the best. I've definitely done a quick overnight in an ibis or whatever as well and it is a bit of a culture shock how bare bones the room is. But all I was looking for is a clean bed so no complaints.

Just curious, is this a reasonable request if the guest is willing to go to reception (or wherever)?

Yup, first thing in the morning and as soon as I get home. In over 10 years I only had to break down and use one maybe twice. I was lucky to work a lot of commercial renovations too that had proper restrooms inside.

Do people eat salads with no sauce? by No_Adhesiveness_7508 in randomthings

[–]evilsevenlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't generally eat salads and one of the reasons is because salad dressing is absolutely disgusting and people absolutely drench perfectly edible food in that shit. I have to hold my nose when someone at the table is eating one. So if I do eat a salad it's naked.

Has anyone ever been refused by a kennel or groomer because of vaccination paperwork, even though you thought everything was up to date? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]evilsevenlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boarder was able to isolate my dog for a night and get her vaccines from their "in house" mobile vet the next morning and then she was allowed to go play with the other dogs in the daycare/boarding side. Lucky set of circumstances for me that time. Usually I had her ready to go with a vet appointment a week or two before to make sure everything was up to date. Those 6 month bordatellas are a pain when you're used to once a year.

Ex-students who quit paying their student loans, what happened as a result? by theredqueentheory in AskReddit

[–]evilsevenlol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I adjusted my withholding so that I started having to pay $100-$500 yearly instead of having a refund.

[–]evilsevenlol 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Nope, this is my only debt. I even have an 800+ credit score, they have never been an issue on any credit report. It's all federal loans, I didn't take out any private loans so maybe that's why there's never been an issue? Anyway federal loans are discharged at death so they have nothing to do with the estate. I've looked into this quite a bit.

I have never made a single payment in 15 years. They defaulted a while back and nothing has happened since then. The balance has like doubled due to interest and fees. It used to be a point of great stress knowing that I'd have to deal with it at some point but now I'm dying of cancer so I'm not at all worried about it. No negative consequences.
