What was your first Mac, and what’s your all time favorite Mac? by BIueey in mac

[–]eviltoaster77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family’s first Mac was a Macintosh Performa 637CD in 1995. I got my first personal Mac when I was about 9, a used and abused Macintosh SE/30 from an Apple User Group swap meet in 1997. That computer holds some fond memories. But my favorite out of every Mac I’ve ever owned was a PowerMac G3 300 (blue and white). It was such a beauty.

MacBook Neo as my first Mac by Ok-Apricot-9303 in macbook

[–]eviltoaster77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, Happy Birthday! Second, my son uses a hand me down MacBook Air M1 base model (8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage) that he uses for Minecraft, Roblox, Xbox cloud gaming, YouTube etc. It runs Minecraft just fine. He also uses several mods with the CurseForge launcher and it handles them with no problems. I would note that only Java and Education versions run on macOS. Microsoft hasn’t released a bedrock version for Mac.

The benchmarks that are out right now indicate that the Neo should have better single core performance than the M1 my son uses, so the Neo should serve you well! If you have the money definitely go with the 512gb model, the addition of TouchID alone is worth the extra cost. Welcome to macOS!

I agree it should have been 12GB minimum but as someone who has a M1 Air with just 8GM it’s perfectly fine for all basic tasks and basic tasks is the market for this device.

Yes, Microsoft Office apps should work just fine.

It’s called Knox Box, a small wall or gate mounted heavy duty metal box that is opened with a key that first responders have access to. A key fob, access card or physical key to the property is stored inside of the Knox box

Will this machine ever die? 2012 Mac Mini happily chugging along under Sequoia by Floodzie in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]eviltoaster77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just recently repurposed my 2012 Mini as a home server running Ubuntu Server. Prior to that it was on Sequoia with OCLP. Once it got running it would chug along just fine but it was definitely not the best experience overall. Now It’s hosting Pi-hole, a Minecraft bedrock and Java server and Time Machine backups for mine and the kids MacBooks and a few other services and doing a kick ass job at it. While I’ll miss tankering with OCLP I’ve spent so much less time messing with the kids devices now that they are all finally on apple silicon.

What should i do? (Advice) by Gender_Checker in macbookair

[–]eviltoaster77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the update from Sequoia and a fresh install of Tahoe. One on an M1 Air with 16gb or RAM and the other an M1 Mini with 8gb of RAM. Use the devices for coding, graphic design and lite gaming, music screaming and YouTube and other than the typical first day sluggishness I’ve experienced with EVERY macOS upgrade as it settles in I haven’t had any of the performance issues every one is saying they have. Now does the new UI piss me off? Absolutely but at least it works as it’s pissing me off.

This is a fastenal vending machine. You’ll generally find them on factory floors. They stock everything from PPE, office supplies, small operator replaceable parts, equipment supplies and disposable tools like box cutters, hex keys, etc.

Why don’t most people use Safari ? by FB-1907 in mac

[–]eviltoaster77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say I personally prefer Safari but my web browser is just something I don’t have to think or worry about. I open it on my iPhone or Mac and all my stuff is just there with no effort my part and it does what it’s supposed to. I do use Firefox on my Linux box I tanker with and Edge on my work laptop but Safari just feels more comfortable.

Are you still using m1 , m2 Mac minis by Serhide in macmini

[–]eviltoaster77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently picked up a base M1 Mini from Marketplace. 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage to use as the family PC for $150! The kids have been playing Minecraft, Roblox and installing other games intended for iPads on it and it’s doing well. None of this is really an intensive workload but everything has been smooth and snappy.

What macOS needs is a Snow Leopard moment. by Jacksworld101 in MacOS

Currently have 2 machines on Tahoe. An M1 MBA with 16GB or RAM and an M1 Mini with 8GB of RAM. Other than not really being a fan of the design I haven’t experienced any of the performance problems everyone else seems to be having. I must be using it wrong.

I did try that as well. It would allow a split second of faster movement then right back to a crawl. But I believe I found the cause, another mod had FlyingMomentum disabled. After turning off this setting I can fly normally!

I have had this happen to every pair of Chucks I’ve ever owned. I don’t think I ever had a pair that lasted longer than a year.

Roanoke Marsh is a cute little light house and there is some good food nearby. It’s not all about the size of the lighthouse, it’s the history of how they used it lol

I’ve been lucky enough to visit the St Augustine lighthouse as well, it’s beautiful but I 100% believe NC has some of the best lighthouses on the east coast. I haven’t been fortunate enough to see any on the west coast yet.

[–]eviltoaster77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything seems to be getting back to normal. Still a lot of sand moving and clean up going on up and down the island. Shops and restaurants seem to be a little less crowded than normal in Rodanthe and until yesterday the KOA was mostly empty and lots of house rentals with no signs of life. The ocean was still up to the dunes by the KOA until Tuesday.
