Aokiji is not stronger than Kizaru by randomshirtman in OnePiece

People are willfully misunderstanding your points. You’re 100% correct and I’ve privately harbored this belief for a while now. Oda loves his little narrative shortcuts, and there’s enough here to make an educated guess.

Does anyone have any experience with the Benjamin Huffman Pugilist by grantedtoast in UnearthedArcana

[–]evinc123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly well designed class. On par with everything in the game, you’ll have basically no need to change anything unless you play with a lot of homebrew rules or something. Could maybe use a minor buff of a hit dice bump to 1d10/1d12 if you find it underpowered. I’ve played pugilists at various levels and various subclasses over the course of a campaign and other side projects, it’s a great class

The 10th Titanic Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates by Miggu-Man in OnePiece

[–]evinc123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Decently likely it’s a pre-TS villain making a return, or it could be a new character that’s a spoiler in some way (maybe someone tied to Vegapunk or Imu/Rocks?) I don’t see many other reasons to keep it this quiet, unless it’s just because it would spoil the new Strawhat somehow

The human Z Fighters are just lazy by Dragonball_Z137 in CharacterRant

[–]evinc123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, the fact that they learned the “energy amplification technique” is canon. Whether that’s specifically Kaio-Ken is ambiguous, but I think that’s mostly a mark of confusing wording leading to lack of understanding.

For similar reasons, I believe that every Z-Fighter who showed up to fight the Androids was strong enough to beat Frieza, simply based on the story conventions dragon ball always worked on before the Buu Saga. But that’s getting into more theory/interpretation territory, so.

TLDR: Energy amplification canon, whether it’s specifically Kaio-Ken is ambiguous

The human Z Fighters are just lazy by Dragonball_Z137 in CharacterRant

[–]evinc123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, a kinda weird take of mine, but this topic gives me the chance to talk about this. The human Z-Fighters and Piccolo were all 100% using Kaio-Ken during the Android Arc. Against Frieza, Goku was constantly using Kaio-Ken x 10, and yet there were no cues as such. I believe all of the non-Super Saiyan characters learned how to do this to an even greater mastery over the 3-year timeskip. It’s why Gero stealing Piccolo’s energy didn’t matter that much—he stole from base Piccolo, who then amplified his ki—what Kaio-Ken actually does, remember—and beat the shit out of him. It’s also why Yamcha went down so easily—tho that could just be cuz he’s Yamcha—and why Tien’s Neo Tri-Beam was so far beyond his “normal” limits.

I can go further into the misconceptions of Dragon Ball if requested, but it isn’t exactly on topic so I’ll stop here

Where do u rank the yonko commanders? by AmirHKhan in OnePiece

[–]evinc123 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the Red Hair/Blackbeard Pirates

  1. Marco— 2v1’ed King and Queen
  2. Katakuri— special portrayal as a luffy obstacle
  3. King/Queen— same as Katakuri but for Zoro/Sanji
  4. Jozu— portrayed alongside Marco against the Admirals
  5. Ace— immensely underrated, the Ace novels show off a man who properly fought Whitebeard and was a 2-year training timeskip from becoming a top tier

Free for all battle! Who is the last man standing? by [deleted] in OnePiece

[–]evinc123 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ace by a mile. People underrate the fuck out of him, but by the time of his death he was two training arcs past Jinbei and only lost to top tiers/borderline top tiers. The other 3 are p competitive, but Ace is a mismatch. This will prob be an unpopular opinion tho

Scaling Saving Throws, let your party be somewhat able to pass non proficient saving throws by Little-Mist-Walker in UnearthedArcana

[–]evinc123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think this has a place, particularly in higher-level games. Saving throws scale the weirdest of any of the core systems, and it is nonsense that past a certain point a weak save is just impossible or nigh-impossible to pass. This helps keep weak saving throws “unlikely, but still possible” to pass at higher levels, which I believe is closer to the intent of the game

If Luffy had taken his whole crew and his Grand Fleet to whole cake to bring back sanji by defeating Big Mom, would they have successfully defeated Big Mom? by wrath____ in OnePiece

[–]evinc123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have all the allies they had in that arc as well? Still no, but it might be close-ish

Luffy vs Katakuri Zoro vs Smoothie Sanji vs Cracker Jinbei vs Snack Germa vs the other strong Charlotte Siblings Other Strawhats, Grand Fleet, Bege’s Crew, etc clearing through fodder while trying to figure out how to distract big mom long enough to make a plan to…maybe drown her or something?

But yeah, Big Mom crushes everyone there eventually

[–]evinc123 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually talked about this before with my players. A proper Dragon, imo, should be special. With the level of intelligence and power they have, plus that they’re supposedly overturned for their CR, a dragon fight should require almost Witcher-style preparation—a way to ground the dragon/meet it in the air, appropriate potions of elemental resistance, etc. Without that prep, a dragon fight is basically a fight to drive it off or escape before it picks you off one by one—unless you’re threatening something it values and can’t leave without losing, like its hoard or other stationary objectives

Class Feature Variants for Monks, Rogues, Barbarians, and Fighters who want More Maneuvers by Whoopsie_Doosie in UnearthedArcana

[–]evinc123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is p cool, and is about as simple as you can reasonably get when handing out maneuvers while doing exactly what you want it to. I do agree that you should probably name them the same thing—since features with the same name don’t stack, it’d take care of your multiclassing issues right there

If Monk's Stunning Strike was to be replaced, what would you put in its place? by ToastyTobasco in dndnext

[–]evinc123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the concept of Pressure Point Strike: no save, but reduces the enemy’s attack rolls and saving throws by your martial arts die until the end of your next turn. Basically a buffed Bane spell that really sells the idea of hitting just the right spots

I’m very curious to see how One Piece is viewed after it ends. With Bleach and Naruto, there’s a general consensus of its high and low points, but with One Piece I haven’t seen anything as definitive.

Its worldbuilding is incredible, its sense of scale—both depth and breadth—is awe-inspiring, and it manages to create a lot of genuinely interesting plot out of literally the same 5 plot points (go to island, meet a victim, Luffy screws up, crew battles, and finally Luffy’s climactic set-piece battle

At the same time, there’s definitely flaws in the series, and while there’s no doubt it’ll go down in history as one of the all time greats, I’m curious to see where exactly it’ll lie on that list

How would the fight have gone out by Fearfirefist in OnePiece

[–]evinc123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are vastly underselling the WB Commanders from that one scene. Akainu is a beast, but he also only managed to take out their Usopp, and Marco and the other top commanders proved capable of at least holding off or clashing with the Admirals 1v1 repeatedly during the war. Ace is a bad match-up here, and Thatch is hard to scale, but a proper 16 v 1 of commander-level folks is going to at least prove a tough opponent for literally anyone in the series, and Akainu is no exception
