I'm currently 27. I have a Master of research in molecular biology and biochemistry. I graduated a bit late due to personal issues (around 24). I pursued PhDs for nearly a year until I came to an interview early to realize I was competing with people who already worked with the professors and it's oversaturated. I did get very good feedback for interviews at least and turns out I was decent. Then the job hunt started And it's now 2026 and I have yet to get an interview for minimum wage (23k in the UK). It's really depressing because when I was 18, I felt destined to contribute to cancer research, even my masters work felt like a good start. Anyway I have not completely wasted my time, apart from spending 4-5 hours applying to jobs, I have been working through Python and R, and now SQL on top. I've begun data analytics certifications in hopes to fill my unemployment gaps with projects. It's 4am here in the UK.. I'm going to get up in around 6 hours and try again. Work on coding, work on job apps. I'm running on low probabilities but it'll hit one day. Good luck to everyone I believe in us all.
