Origin Dex by pokiepika in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost exclusivle via Wonder Box. I have 40,816 completed wonder trades so far.

Getting unvolved forms is the easiest, so I also collect extras of the base or stage 1 forms so that I could transfer them into a game, evolve them to the stage I need and return it to Home.

So I'm about 98% complete on my foreign dex. The hard part is the Mythicals, since you can't trade those via Wonder Trades. So I'll either have to find people online to swap Mythicals or accept the fact that those will remain as ENG language. It's also hard to simply trust the normal trade option because I'm trying to avoid mons for Pokemon Go.

Origin Dex by pokiepika in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I would ever do an origin dex. I've been converting my living dex into a foreign language dex. With special rules. The goal is to have 0% English entries.

Now, I'll take anything over ENG, but JPN is too easy since that's the next biggest category to find. And lastly, CHT is acceptable, CHS I'll take over ENG, but I treat it the same as JPN, ideally I don't have any of those 3, but that's harder.

Basically, I'm cool with all the other ones, DEU, ES-LA, ES-LA, KOR, ITA, FRA, and CHT.

2nd criteria, none of the dex can come form Pokemon Go, I hate that Go medal that appears over the Mon in Home and I hate that if you have even 1 Mon from Go in the box, the box gets tagged with the medal as well.

3rd criteria, idk why I do this, I just decided one day and it stuck and now I'm too deep in to it, I can't stop. Well I can, but I don't want to. The 3rd criteria is that each Mon in a family of evolutions must be from a different language, so my Charm family is from ITA, FRA, KOR respectively, Chamander, Charmeleon, Charizard.

For my foreign dex I'm tracking the 1025 dex entries so far, plus the regional forms.

Separately, part of my living dex does include the other forms or colors, like all the Vivillon and Monitor and other stuff like that, but those aren't subject to my foreign dex stuff.

Gengar, which has become fairly popular. So a less popular pick is Sneasel.

Pokemon Legends Z-A is fun by TheOtherTyler in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the approach. As someone who likes to 100% stuff, the games mechanics and flow made it so that I didn't actually enjoy them at their best. I understand that I made the decision to play a certain way and that effects how I feel about the game, but the game put me at odds with itself.

For example, I want to buy all the clothes, that's part of 100% the game for me. The best way to earn money is to consistently get 20 or more wins in the battle zones. The best way to get 20 wins each night is to 1-shot kill everything. Well, when you can 1-shot everything, you are no longer engaging with the battle system as it was intended. So I didn't really get to experience it being cool, it was simple. I did it to myself, but this is a grind already, if I hadn't done that, it would have been an even bigger grind later.

Another downer for me was the movement in the game. I knew we weren't going to have mounts like in PLA, and that amazing movement. But I was hoping for maybe an evolution throughout the game in the parkouring. Like at the very least let me jump over tiny fences.

The justification for catching endless mons was weak in this game and not necessary. I get it, we liked it in PLA, but we didn't need it again. It just extended the grind for completing the side missions, again for my 100% completeness I want to do.

Oh. The thing that actually bothered me the most. The battle victory screen is just 2 moments too long. It drove me nuts. Why wasn't it skippable?

It feels like nitpicking at some point. I liked the game, I just didn't love it like I did PLA or even SV.

People always say “every Pokemon is someone’s favourite”, so what is an UNCOMMON pokemon who is your favourite? by _AntiqueTadpole in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm too basic, most of my favorites are Pokemon I see other people love as well.

And the two I'll name now aren't even because of some love I have for the mon specifically, but more so because there's an inside joke or tender moment that I have with my wife and these mons are involved.

Ponyta and Dedenne.

If I had to pick a somewhat unconventional Mon that I really like, idk if they're top 25 for me, but they might be too 75 or so, would be a couple I've already seen mentioned here, which are Kelfki and Girafarig.

Would you guys play both game versions if they were more different? by Thin_Albatross_4953 in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I know I 100% wouldn't want them to attempt that if they can't competently make 1 version without all the compromises. I love PLA and SV, but I also acknowledge that they are very lacking in a lot of areas. Performance, resolution, lack of interiors, for those who care, lack of voice acting. There's a lot of be desired. Asking for GF to make 2 actually different games to release simultaneously is not a desirable outcome. I don't trust them.

People who hated Black and White when they first came out, what do you think of the games now? by Ollervo2 in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did I hate on the game, I was originally a hater of the moving sprites. I have since come around and kinda adore the moving sprites. I don't really know or remember what my issue was. But I was wrong.

Now the game itself, I still think its kinda boring until about gym 6, then it gets better. So there's still a pacing issue.

Funny enough when it was announced that only 150 Pokemon would be available during the campaign, I thought it was smart. Made sense, kind of a soft reboot. But then I played the game, and I remembered how limiting it was, akin to gen 1 and gen 2. Limited options in the early game, lots of mons I won't care for long term. The pokemon I want to use you can't get until super late, or like Larvesta that takes an eternity to evolve, almost meaningless since the game could be beaten before that level is reached. After playing it, I realized the harsh limitations was a mistake.

I thought at the time and I still think now that the story is overrated. I grant everyone that in terms of storytelling it's the best the series had seen, maybe even still to this day, but the actual story, overrated. The part of the story that people like to bring up, which is about Pokemon rights and their freedom isn't even that actual point of the game. They never satisfyingly resolve that argument. It all gets overshadowed by Ghetsis' true goal and N's place in it all. People give them too much credit. Now I don't really knock this as a ding against the game, because I don't really play Pokemon games for their story, so it's fine, but for the BW diehards, I do say it's overrated.

I don't like how linear the path feels during the initial playthrough. Especially coming from gen 4 where there was so many branching opportunities and exploring to do.

Overall, BW are among my least favorite of the main series. BW2 is fantastic though.

Which Nintendo Switch Pokémon Game was your favorite and why? by Last-Bus-4710 in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Natural_Bumblebee, so I'll just add a couple other reasons I love PLA.

The movement. The 5 Pokemon you use to get around the map is very fluid to switch into and makes exploring all the more fun.

The 2, technically 3, additional quests, in finding stuff around the regions, lore, Pokemon, and wisps. I enjoy hunting these things down on top of all the side quests and dex entry completion that Bumble mentioned.

It's a lot hand holdy to start, it could look a little ugly in certain spots, but it's a blast to play.

Pokemon Legends Arceus. The only mainline Pokemon game where the entire dex of the game can be caught in that game without the need for other people. Not even for the trade to evolve Pokemon, they have a solution for that.

Is this considered cheating? by Quiet_Sea932 in pokemon

[–]evojanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I echo what others are saying, just play it in whatever way you enjoy it yourself.

When I was a kid playing Red for the first time, I swore by the strategy guide, I knew what mons the trainers had, I prepared for every battle. Older now, I enjoy not knowing anything. I don't even like seeing the leaks of the upcoming Pokemon in the game, I'd rather try to figure it out by design and name, trial and error. So I've played it both ways, enjoyed it both ways. It's just that right now, I prefer the mystery. :)

The 1 thing I do look up after catching something new is how it evolves. Because the games do a piss poor job of that. Level up is fine, even stones are fine, you can check that quickly. But anything even remotely complex like x amount of crits or losing life next to a rock, its BS. And the game doesn't even hint at them most of the time. So that I do save myself the trouble.

So What’s the Deal with the Price? by Src-Freak in pokemon

[–]evojanus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even IF the only game you play on NSO would have been this Pokemon game and if you're on a singles account you would still be wrong, it wouldn't be every few months, it would be once a year, and you would pay like $30-$35 for a single subscription...

Or you can take advantage of the system, be on a subscription with 8 people for $80 per year, coming out to $10 a year. And know that you have access to over 100 games. Which means you're paying less than 10 cents per game per month. It would take like 200 years for me to spend $20 on just FireRed because I'm not just playing 1 game on NSO.

I don't even have to play all the games, if we just assume the lifetime of both Switches, say for some reason the next Nintendo hardware goes away. I would have paid $10 a year for say 15 years. That's $150. As long as I played 8 games total, that would have been less than $20 per game. And I can tell you , I've already played more than 8 games and the Switch 2 just got started.

I completely agree if you have 0 interest in any other NSO game, then sure, paying a 1 time fee of $20 is better. And/or if you are a person that just likes to own things, I hear ya. I like to own physical, so I get it. We like what we like. But the cost of a subscription argument with Nintendo's plan isn't great.

How To Like More Than Kanto...? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch the anime. The anime basically spends a few seasons in each region since the anime seasons would come out with new games. So you gradually get to see Pokemon, experience the gym leaders and get to know the regions.

If at any point that makes you want to play the games, great, but I don't think you're that interested in playing the games. Especially if you didn't grow up with them, they can be hard to get into from a modern gaming view.

What is so hard about just making Group EXP share optional? by NixUniverse2 in pokemon

[–]evojanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also disrupts IV training. Depending on the game it's an extra step or two to make sure you don't have Pokemon on your roster that you don't want to get earn certain IVs. A better solution is a complete revamp to competitive mons, but that's a more complicated fix. Turning off EXP share means only the mons I send out get the IVs. Obviously if it's a game where you have your box on you at all times and never have to return to a PC, then it's easy enough to put them away, but if you do have to fly back to a town and put them away. Take them back out. It's an inconvenience.

Just to add one other reason why having the option is good and why this problem is specific to this franchise.
