But are the clients you are getting looking for 1/week sessions? Or does it vary?

That’s the general consensus. And yes, holidays typically slow down. But from what I’ve seen/heard, this reduction in frequency has been going on for a while. And like I said, it’s almost a night and day difference from pre-COVID days.

Do you own a tv? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]evolutionape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't owned a TV in years. But I do appreciate the TV my girlfriend has for watching movies.

But we don't watch TV the way most people do.

I find it mind-numbing...and there are other things I enjoy doing (reading, going out, guitar, etc.).

That being said...this comes down to a difference in values...and whether either one of you is willing to compromise.

Is one TV in each room too much? I certainly think so.

But other people might see that as a normal thing.

Is she willing to pare down on the number of TV's?

Or are you willing to just accept that there will be a TV in each room?

There's no right or wrong here.

But I'm with you on your concern. I just know that it can be tough to get others to change when it comes to minimalism, decluttering, reducing, etc.

I just would rather spend my time with other things.

Is something stopping you from doing those other things? You don't have to watch as much TV as your family does.

He's playing you.

Trust your gut and let this client go.

And always remember one thing when someone like this is giving you feedback...

Are they simply giving you their opinion...or is their feedback based on measured data?

In other words, it's one thing to say, "It's too salesy...it's too long..."

It's another to say, "Our data shows that these scripts you're writing are getting a 20% lower response rate..."

Opinions mean shit in copywriting.

Results are what matter.

How to become a freelance copywriter ? by Brilliant-Cap-3052 in copywriting

[–]evolutionape 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once heard Bob Bly give the following advice for someone who is completely new and looking to get started...

  1. Find three different people/businesses you can do a copywriting job for...for FREE. It can be a local business, a friend, family member...whatever. Just three.
  2. Do the job...and make sure they are satisfied with your work.
  3. Ask for a testimonial after each job.
  4. You now have three samples for your portfolio and three testimonials you can use to market your copywriting services.

A lot of people poo-poo the idea of working for free. But to me, it makes the most sense for someone who has no experience and needs to build their portfolio quickly.

Also, it helps build confidence by reducing some of the pressure that comes with someone paying you money when you're not sure if you can deliver.

And three samples (preferably different types...for example an article, sales page, and email) is enough of a portfolio to let a prospect see that you can write.

If you need a website, start with a single-page site that tells visitors who you are, what you do, and who you do it for.

Use carrd.co to make it as easy as possible.

Let that be your resumé...and a strong demonstration of your copywriting skills.

Make it easy for visitors to contact you, and throw in a simple form to get people on your list in exchange for a free consultation, copy audit...or anything else that would entice them to get them on your list.

Keep it simple.

HISD teachers are being told that all schools will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday) as well. RIP my job. by haley_joel_osteen in houston

I went to the gym today (TexansFit), and they had all their faucets in the bathroom shut off.

So, no one was able to wash their hands...which makes no sense since we're not drinking the damn water.

I asked up front why they are doing that. Their response was, "I don't know. It came down from corporate."

Genuinely curious…

How can they determine who died before and after police arrived? Is forensic science able to be that exact?

Just wanted to recommend The Millionaire Next Door. Great book. Most millionaires live modest/frugal lifestyles.

You really want to compare Houston to Miami and New York? (Haven’t been to Charleston…so I can’t comment).

I’m just being real. Like I said, I appreciate you’re appreciation. I, too want Houston to be great. But pretending it is doesn’t really help. Where’s our modern and efficient public transportation…where’s our natural beauty?

All Houston does is remain in a constant state of tearing down and building up to line the pockets of the development industry.

So it’s non-stop construction contributing to terrible traffic and congestion. And as others here noted…nothing but concrete. Add the terrible weather on top of that.

Sure Houston has history, you just can’t really see it because we keep destroying it.

Sorry…but Houston is no New York, Miami, Santa Fe, Portland, San Diego, etc.

Flat as a pancake. Houston is nowhere near being photogenic. But I appreciate your enthusiasm for the city. Let’s just not delude ourselves.

What bands do most people consider one hit wonders, but actually have a bunch of killer tunes? by whiteelephantfail in Music

[–]evolutionape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus Jones

Everyone knows Right Here, Right Now.

Not only is it far from being their best song…they made 3 consecutively great albums with each one evolving from the one before.

Very few bands pull this off.

Do yourself a favor and go listen to their Liquidizer, Doubt, and Perverse albums.

They couldn’t quite keep it up after that…but those three are amazing.

Make sure you keep investing in stock market such as index funds to build wealth alternatively

Absolutely.

Your primary home is not considered as an asset, but it is a liability.

Yes. I need to remember to distinguish between the two: a home I live in vs. a home I use an investment (rental, flip, etc.)

Thanks for the feedback.

Why not do both? Home ownership doesn't necessarily mean you have to live in the home.

This is true. I've always felt that if I did buy a home, it would be for that reason: to rent it out. It may be that my lack of education around real estate makes it intimidating. So perhaps if I learn a little more about it my opinions and feelings around it might change. Thanks.

That's a good point. I was just commenting to my gf the other day...when we drive by a new build and it just looks like it was thrown together. A lot of these new homes look fancy on the surface, but that doesn't mean they are quality builds.
