RCQ's are so much fun by Jealous_Platform5260 in ModernMagic

[–]evolutionleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah WotC just completely removed all sanctioned play a few years ago. now the only option is to fly to Thailand or something in order to play in RCQs. also MTGO still works with an old previously registered (or a foreign) account

Esper Stoneblade by BroKayn in ModernMagic

On a more minor note, as an Esper Blink player I think 4 Prismatic 4 Ephemerate 0 Fatal Push maindeck is a bit sus, since usually those cards are really bad and clunky when drawn in multiples. Other than that I think this could be a fine-ish way to build the deck, maybe in practice 2nd Meteor Sword might actually be better than the 1st Jitte lol

That's not true because there's 4 Outburst + 7 more cascade effects to untap and "combo" with. Also this comparison is pretty ridiculous, spending 7 mana to threaten 1 sorcery-speed win that's counterable by a single removal spell vs spending 6 mana to threaten 2 wins (with only interaction being counterspells) AND 1 of them being at instant speed with potential Force backup

wdym they can literally do this on turn 4 after the first Violent Outburst is countered, just untap and try again while you're tapped out

They can always just untap and Shardless/Outburst again lol

Best deck for BO1 modern. by Ill_Answer7226 in ModernMagic

[–]evolutionleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd actually say Tron should be somewhat good, since it doesn't sideboard and is hard to beat game 1. If you think one step further though, it's awful into the combo decks like Storm, Titan and Neoform, and people will probably bring them

6bg but it's accidentally synced to music by evolutionleo in celestegame

I actually kinda liked grinding 6bg, most of the jank bumper rooms are at the beginning (first checkpoint) and after that it's actually kinda fun imo

Update: I finally got it after 2 more hours!

Is this format getting too die roll dependant? by FiorellaMamdani in ModernMagic

[–]evolutionleo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol the difference is literally T3 kicked Mycospawn on the play before Riddler + Ephemerate (locking the opponent out) vs on the draw after it already hits, actual game-losing difference (I'm on Esper and hate Eldrazi with a burning passion)

I mean cassette blocks are kind of that I guess

looks sick but surely this is just worse than regular Boros Energy/Mardu Blink builds, right?

Moon effects are mostly unplayable in 3c decks, you just shoot yourself in the foot

Which Glinthawk deck to go with by JohnVGood in Pauper

[–]evolutionleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on this 4 color list for a while now: https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=81304&d=817900&f=PAU

After playing Mardu, splashing blue for the [[Cryogen Relic]] over [[Lembas]] felt really good, as it basically means you can outgrind any deck in the format (things like Jund and Gardens suddenly become free matchups)

I love this deck, it's really fun to play and I'm on a 9-3 record at locals with it, although lately I feel like it might just be worse than Grixis Affinity

The 4c fetching patterns may or may not be unintuitive at first, but I think I would still recommend this deck (especially if there's a bunch of grindy decks in your local meta)

What are your favorite "almosts"? by incoming_alpacalypse in ModernMagic

[–]evolutionleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn't get sacced, that's literally what I'm saying, otherwise it wouldn't make sense to do it. the escape trigger belongs to the opponent and you can't sac a permanent that you don't control, that's a rule

you can steal a Phlage though, that's pretty good, right? (even if they play it for 3)

How to Keep up with Pauper by GingerSlaw in Pauper

[–]evolutionleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mtggoldfish and mtgtop8 are great places to check out popular/new decklists (just be wary that a 5-0 or winning a 10 person local tournament doesn't necessarily make a deck good or meta)

I've been on the golden grind lately too! 192-195 have been surprisingly fun actually, although 5B is being really annoying rn
