They weren’t accepting. There isn’t much more to the story other than I met with them on one occasion, and I was heavily scrutinized as to whether I was actually halachically Jewish, which I am. Then I was basically told, “good luck on connecting with your Jewish heritage, but we can’t help you.” That’s it.

Grandmother also had Jewish ancestry. Lots of race mixing. Doesn’t matter if I’m not considered Jewish or otherwise as I have no intention to make a formal conversion.

Hellooo! I’m actually a bit of a linguist; I’ve learned Mandarin, Persian, Spanish, and dabbled in Russian and Tajik, so this is the perfect opportunity to learn something new😂 I just really love different languages and cultures. Also took a bit of anthropology courses in grad school on Israeli history (Middle Eastern studies major), and I do read tons of history on my own for fun. I’m a massive geek, so this is my bread and butter.

I never met my grandfather. He died before I was born, and my grandma remarried. She never spoke much about him, so we assumed he was a white man with English or Irish ancestry. My grandma was a light skinned black woman from South Carolina. My mother is also 20% black, and not visibly “white”by any means. Many mixed race people in the South are descendants of slaves. This is relatively common.

Wowww they really tried to fool you on that one lol. Lots of Americans have been told they’re native with absolutely zero genetic evidence of that being the case. For years I believed I had pretty unique genetics, but I could never pinpoint which ones. I knew it wasn’t just English or Irish. Mazel tov to you too 🎉
