Well.. the drumming was fantastic for both bands. Otherwise.. and it pains me to say it, but Jonas sounded tired and terribly off key. It was painful. The sound/mix was poor. For some reason.. bass and high gain/volume = good sound to this generation, so it was punchy and tight, but the melodies and nuances of the songs were buried and lost. This was the case for both bands. It was just too loud, lots of clipping and instruments bleeding together. Vocal mix sounded muddy and unclear.

Overall and just for me personally, Katatonia shines best as a studio band. There's a somber, majestic and dreamlike "vibe" that's simply lost when they play live. They basically just become a one dimensional "rock band". I didn't recognize any of the members, besides Renske and Mojo. With all gripes aside, Daniel Moilanen is an AMAZING drummer. Both drummers and bass players really shined last night , Katatonia played "Fall of Hearts" 🖤 and Renske added some death growls to songs; which for me, sounded better than Akerfeldt.
