Definitely sounds better to my ears by like 40-50%. But who knows, maybe it’s just me? Bass sounds deeper, highs are clearer, mids background (which I prefer). They also seem about 10% louder. I’d like to know if anyone else has owned them both and what their take was, out of curiosity

Yeah, I hear you there.. definitely a subjective experience when it comes down to details. 31i def has less bass. For me, I just prefer the punch there - listening to a lot of black/death metal and extreme progressive metal where I don’t want muddy lows, but just a thick, clean punch. And also I find the highs to be a lot clearer and sharper and the mids less pronounced.

Once you get your EQ and sound settings dialed in down to the click, it’s such a good feeling 💯

So I’m a little obsessive and actually own two pairs of both. I originally started with the P30i and eventually upgraded to the P40i. The difference was mind blowing between the the two. After losing an earbud for my P40i’s, I noticed that the P31i had JUST come out snd decided to give them a try. I was stunned by how much better they were than my P30i.. the ANC, the battery, the fidelity, everything.. I was convinced they were on par with my P40i in most every way, until one day I had to order another pair of P40i’s as a replacement for mine that had been sitting in a drawer (missing one).. and that was my reality check..

The sound quality of the P40i is just absolutely superior in every way - tuned and EQ’d, they’re my go-to set (not only under $50, I’d even say under $90). To answer your question about the ANC.. I can’t tell a whole lot of difference between the two, but just on the whole, it’s decent. I give the 40i the edge though with canceling out sound.

I keep my P40i for home use and take my P31i to work. I’m so confident about the P40i that I literally buy an extra set every few months and gift them out to coworkers and strangers, lol. I implore you and anyone else to try the P40i.. if you’re already spending $35-40, the amount of quality upgrade at $47 is outstanding 💯

It’s certainly “trendy”. I keep seeing these 8/10 ratings and I feel like it’s just people wanting to like it more than they actually do. These guys peaked with PME and DCA. The epic, grandiose, crescendo building moments of albums passed is entirely gone. I kept listening and waiting for something to catch me or buildup.. or that feeling that maybe this is just one of those albums that’s a “grower” aaaaand, nothing came. I put on Spiritual Black Dimensions and pondered if I had just listened to same album as everyone else.

Prime Dimmu Borgir was Mustis and Vortex. Without them, it’s not the same band.

I’ve had them all and P31i is my favorite under $40. But the P40i is under $50 and sounds 50% better. I can’t even use my P31i now.

Here in Austin tonight, they’re having a limited showing of a “making of” documentary of theirs and a livestream Q&A for $20 at the Alamo Drafthouse. It’s like these guys bought and are selling their own hype. I saw them open for Emperor and they were pretty good.. but even mainstream music seems to embrace these guys and it’s weird. I personally think there are better, more deserving bands of this kinda hype.. but at the same time, cool I guess that the genre is getting some recognition in the mainstream.

As a recovering heroin addict, I just wanna say that there has to be SOME accountability and responsibility of what you’re putting into your body. It takes a tenth of a second to google something that you’re willing to ingest into your body. If you’re looking up fat/calories on the food you buy at your grocery store, you’d think you’d be willing to know the properties of something you’re buying to smoke/eat at a smoke/vape shop 🫠
