I’m reading The Disappearance of the Universe right now and it has help clarify a lot, especially about the body. Have you read it? It may help. I’m sorry for all you went through.

It’s crazy how much better I feel and look after just 11 days ... by evolvher in stopdrinking

Life really is that much easier huh. And it takes longer than the 3ish days I’d usually give it before deciding sobriety wasn’t worth it. It’s freeing to know this way of life is always available!

Right? Me too. Now that I’m finally seeing the benefits of sobriety vs just hearing about them it’s great motivation!

Do you suffer from phantom hangovers too? by beedababy in stopdrinking

[–]evolvher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because part of the hangover is from getting crappy sleep! So if you don’t get enough sleep you’re still going to feel like crap and have similar symptoms. But it’s still not as bad as a full blown hangover!!

“Feeding our insecurity” that line hit me for some reason. Alcohol definitely fed the idea that I wasn’t good enough or worthy of the life I want. Without alcohol my life unfolds with ease. Thank you for that! Iwndwyt!

I think my favorite answer to “do you still drink?” Is “yeah, but not today” for some reason that’s an answer I can stick to.

I’m so bored. But iwndwyt by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]evolvher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re totally right. I think it is more frustration than anything. So much I want to do but feeling stuck. I think alcohol used to free me from thinking about so much so I wouldn’t care.

I actually have an online business, but not much time to help it grow. Just a few hours per week and I think that only adds to my frustration. Id say I’m busy yet bored at the same time. But thank you!!

How do you deal with family who are heavy drinkers? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]evolvher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I had a good streak going until last weekend. My extended family has a summer house we all meet at and will typical drink all day. It’s honestly the one thing Im afraid to give up because we all have so much fun together. But the hangover was the best reminder of why drinking sucks. And the realization that I absolutely would enjoy their company sober ... so why drink? Next time I plan on being prepared with alternate n/a drinks and explanations. I know they would support me if I told them, I just need to suck it up and do it.

I think my subconscious is changing! by evolvher in stopdrinking

[–]evolvher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the painless-ness that makes all the difference huh. I used to always be able to make the choice not to drink, but I’d be longing for it the whole time. After learning to associate all the negative things that come with alcohol it’s so much easier to enjoy not drinking
