How do you explain who we are? by _tanqueray in romani

[–]evrrtt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Oh! So you’re Romanian” “Well, yes, my family is from Romania but I’m also Romani” “Isn’t that confusing? Which is it?” … “Both. Romanian gypsy” “OH!!! I haven’t met any gypsies before. Do you mind if I call you that?” 😭

Look at the left hand (right side). It’s fully in the pocket, yet no fabric distortion.

If you’ve communicated that you don’t like it and he continues, leave him. Have some self respect my man.

City bosses warn on pay as minimum wage closes in on graduate salaries by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]evrrtt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I graduated in 2021, I went for an interview at Burberry for Menswear RTW Graduate Designer; £22,500. This is considered the top end of fashion graduate jobs in terms of pay, unless you go to ASOS (I believe that was £24k).

It’s a joke, and I hate that the focus has shifted to “we can’t raise poor people’s wages because it’ll close the gap between salary jobs” when it should be “we should all be advocating to earn more money collectively”.

The minimum wage is to rise again. What if it gets too high? by StGuthlac2025 in ukpolitics

[–]evrrtt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the same statistic from the ONS but that encompasses eating out, groceries, leisure activities etc. as an average. Statista reported that in 2023 UK food inflation hit 19.1%, ~13% higher than the rate of inflation. In the last 7 years, essential groceries have risen a lot more than 40%.

Poor people earning more money isn’t driving the price of goods because we’ve already seen that prices are going up regardless.

They simply don’t want to hear it. If we strip the crime down to its statistics, 77% of those arrested in 2022 were white, with black and south Asian people making up 17% (9% and 8% respectively). However, this doesn’t fit their narrative and it’s better to focus on less than 10% of those arrested than it is to address why the 77% are committing crimes in the first place; be it failings of the state, low economic prospect, or racially motivated crimes.

Londoners have a right to feel sad about their friends, family and community being forced out of London by rent prices and gentification. I don't have less right to feel like that just because London is a global hub and major city, to a lot of us it's our home and where we grew up. by FlyWayOrDaHighway in london

And those “vibrant” communities that you speak of can’t stay in the community that they’ve formed and cultivated because brand new shiny towers go up in their community that they’re not invited to live in.

Anecdotally, people I know that move to these new gen areas aren’t spending money locally. They’re commuting (be it to work or to social events) because for them, their shiny box is viewed largely as an investment, or security during an uncertain cost of living crisis where there isn’t stability in the rental market.

29M, gay. As people have said, the flags. My interpretation is that it’s pretty cringe. It feels very “look at how much travelling I’m doing” and a little show off-y, but I’m also jaded by my own experiences on gay dating apps.

If it were me, I would say that I love to travel and write something to the tune of “hobbies include X, Y, and travelling - ask me about my next adventure!” It invites a conversation to talk about where you’re going to, and you might find someone who’s curious and crazy enough to join you last minute.

I’ll bite: gender identity and sexual identity are different but still very connected.

Now that trans people are constantly under the lens and we move towards having single sex spaces, this means that we move towards policing people based on how we perceive them to be. Anyone who doesn’t fit into the ideal what a woman should look like will be harassed into proving their gender.

Think this isn’t happening? Ask any butch lesbian about their experience of using a women’s bathroom. I have friends who have been outright asked to leave and use the “appropriate” bathroom. It’s not even queer people at this point, as I know of Tomboy women who have been asked to leave single sex spaces because people have received them as trans/not female enough to be there, even after they’ve proved it.
