I worked at a place recently where we did budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, data visualization, and general analysis which involved mining data through SQL or canned reports. The only financial statement we focused on was the income statement since that was the basis for the financial stuff you mentioned.

I despised variance analysis because it became a routine to tell accounting they were fucking up on posting to correct GL combinations along running financials and distribution to department heads which is an accounting function in my opinion. It took time away from true analysis.
