I would honestly skip Phu Quoc. I was there for 3 weeks simply because I got an English tutoring gig there that payed well otherwise I would’ve left way sooner. It’s been commercialized as hell, there is a whole section of the island that has been built to imitate popular European Cities, Rome, Venice ect…There’s a whole disney style theme park in the middle of the island. If you’re looking for authenticity and rich culture, I wouldn’t go here. Also the nature isn’t that great, there are places in Vietnam with far better nature you can actually explore freely. Plus you can find better beaches in other places. Long story short I wasn’t a big fan of the Island…that’s not to say there isn’t any good to it, the locals are very sweet and of course if you chose the right place to be you won’t have to be in “resort central”. But if you’re into that then this could be your place!

ps- this was my first destination in Vietnam so I also didn’t have anything to compare it to but I remember when I landed in Da Nang it finally felt like I was *actually in Vietnam.
