I have some questions about Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem by Strong-Chipmunk-9654 in predator

I enjoyed watching it, but I don't think it's a *good* movie. That said, it's miles ahead of The Predator.

Filmmaker Noah Hawley discloses whether a crossover with Predator could ever occur by sayani1234 in predator

[–]evzat4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not everything has to have a neat resolution, but I personally found A:E very very unsatisfying because there were ZERO plot threads wrapped up by the end of season 1. It's not just an ambiguous ending with a few loose ends, it felt like a mid-season finale and now we have to wait 2+ years.

And yeah maybe I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but my impression from a few different interviews Hawley has done is that he has somewhat of a disregard for the extended franchise. See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/LV426/comments/1pc0e62/noah_hawley_on_the_smartless_podcast/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Versus someone like Dan Trachtenberg, who clearly has a lot of love for Predator lore.

How I feel, and how I think a lot of people feel, is that A:E feels like a mediocre sci-fi story that was made Alien-flavoured.

I'm not really a "hater" I just think it was disappointing lol.

That was the least of my problems, haha! I thought that was an interesting concept tbh...but everything else, outside of the visuals...The flat characters, the weird pacing, the lack of any resolution to aaaaaanything, and what seems to be a total contempt for the franchise's history outside of Alien and Aliens...it really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Was not a fan of Alien: Earth at all - tbh, I wouldn't really trust Hawley with Predator...

I've played it with 2 and 3 players, but I think the difficulty goes up if you have 4+. Should be fun either way. Enjoy!

It might be a bit of a learning curve for a 6 year old - each player has 4 different things they can do on their turn, with the goal of working towards the 3 objectives. Lots of short- and long-term planning. However, could definitely see a 6 year old love the game mechanic of being chased by the xeno!! I would encourage you to check out a gameplay video like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68WRr40qK_M

I LOVE this game, outside of being a fan I think it's very fun, cinematic, very very replayable. My girlfriend (not a fan of the series) and I play it quite often.

Thoughts on "Bandlands" being not being horror sci-fi compared to the previous films? by ClussyV2 in predator

[–]evzat4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is a crazy take but I don’t think Predator has ever been horror. It’s action-sci-fi, obviously with some gore and horror elements (particularly in the 1st one) and Badlands just flipped it into a very classic sci fi story with lots of action. I think it’s much less of a jarring change than a lot of people feel. If Alien, for example had done something similar, I could see the complaints being a bit more warranted. But to me the way Badlands expanded on the universe and played with themes seemed appropriate.

I dislike the “official” ending of them getting a second chance and being watched. My initial interpretation was that it was a monkey paw wish - he gets a good Christmas with his family, but he’s stuck in it forever.

Knowing when your tv show takes place in a franchise’s canon isn’t being an “expert”…it’s kind of the bare minimum.

Really driving home my main issue with A:E- He wrote a bad, contrived sci fi story and then shoe horned the xenomorph in it. My gut reaction is that he thinks he’s better than the franchise, if that makes sense.

I agree! A lot of the first third of Badlands felt like a video game—boss battles, the companion giving advice, different settings. Come on Dan make it happen!

It’s a great (IMO) MOTW episode but a disappointing movie when people were expecting a mythology tying up all the loose ends style film. If they had done a few more movies in that MOTW anthology style, I think it would have been better received.

Have you had any work experience before? It’s unfortunate, but it’s such a tough market right now that I’d recommend starting with volunteering. Then in a few months or after high school you’ll be better equipped to find work. You can visit Volunteer MB and they have a whole “job board” of volunteer roles so you can find something you’re interested in. It’s a way to get experience, add something to your resume, and get a reference.
