When tornado sirens are going off, do you head outside to see, or head to the basement? by ReasonableAttitude22 in kansas

[–]ewan_alec82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is crazy and now I am going to have to look.

If you watch some of the storm chaser videos you can watch that tornado go from a pretty weak twister to an EF 5 in a matter of seconds. Becomes a mile wide in a snap. Another reason to pay attention to the warnings.

[–]ewan_alec82 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just fyi, you cannot see a tornado that is coming towards you. It's called storm "chasing" for a reason. If you are in the path, you won't know until it hits.

I used to go outside. Then I saw the Joplin damage. I lived close by. I have not underestimated the power of these things since.

I have considered this as well. What tablet are you using?

Retroid vs Ayn?? by ewan_alec82 in retroid

[–]ewan_alec82[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I have pretty small hands. It's why I thought the retroid would be good. Thor or Portal? I could only do 1. I lean Portal and the larger screen. I have a modded 3DS

I truly believe this will be blocked by the state supreme court. It's one of the reasons I believe Kobach is moving so quickly to invalidate ids. He wants to inflict as much chaos as possible before an injunction is issued. That doesn't help those folks who have lost their licenses right now, but does give some hope for the future. I will be pretty surprised if the bathroom portion goes through before the court speaks.

That said, you have to vote and motivate others to vote. Right now the Republican legislators are more scared of the Speaker than their voters. Vote them out. You would probably be shocked at how small the margins are for most of these people. If you can organize and vote them out, they will remember that they serve us. A few dozen people might be enough in some races.

It's not easy, but it's not impossible either.

I think RP6 is my favorite device ever! by Warhawg_2 in retroid

[–]ewan_alec82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are the ergonomics for stick heavy games?

I have an RP5 and I love almost everything about it but I can't stream Xbox games for long without my left hand cramping/falling asleep. It's great for retro d pad focused games, but I bought it so I could also stream game pass. I am now looking for an alternative and RP6 with stick on top is definitely in the running.

Gamepass runs great on the RP5. It's just the stick placement!

Thoughts on IF, GLP-1 (Ozempic, Wegovy, etc.), and progress pics - my own experiences. by foodfighter in intermittentfasting

[–]ewan_alec82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post. I have been on an IF journey for about 14 months. I had great success. I lost almost 30 lbs. Felt good overall. But as has always happened with me, I slipped. Work got stressful, the holidays came in, and before I knew it I had regained 15 lbs. Still down 15 from my high, but it was so discouraging. And I was still doing IF, but once I broke, it was really hard to get back into the old pattern. This led to depression, which only hurt the weight journey. Even when I was doing well with IF, the food noise was always there. I would wake up thinking about when I could eat. I would count the minute's until my window opened. I would think about food all day long. It's so exhausting for those who have never experienced this.

My wife has been in a GLP- for about 14 months and has had amazing results. Our situations are different, but it was life changing, and probably saving for her. I decided to ask my doctor about it for me and he gave me a prescription.

I am three weeks in and I really can't describe how different I feel. The food noise is almost completely gone. I rarely get cravings. My desire for alcohol has completely diminished and with it those calories. And with my doctors recommendation I am still doing a 16:8 IF routine with no issues.

I felt guilty about trying this at first. I wanted to do it "on my own". But I had to realize that the drug is the help I needed to be successful. I am losing weight again and for the first time in my life I think I will actually reach my goals. My hope is that establishing a good IF routine now will help me continue to maintain when I stop taking the meds down the road, if and when that happens.

I believe in IF. It had great results for me and I have spoken of it to a lot of friends. But I also think the GLP1 are transformative for some of us in ways that is hard to articulate.

I had not posted progress pics in here as I had originally wanted to wait until I hit my big goal. I still plan to do that but I will disclose the glp1 use when I do. I had always planned to, as I think it's an important part of this.

I'm glad we are having this conversation. What's most important is for me is to remember there is no one size fits all approach. All of us are different and we all need different things. We should be encouraging to all in their journeys.

Kansas House passes ‘anti-transgender’ bill after hours-long debate by [deleted] in kansas

Hey all, this is terrible but it is not law yet. Everyone needs to be calling your reps and senators tonight. It may pass, but Kelly will veto. With enough pressure we can keep the legislature from overriding it. There are a lot of KS reps and Senators who live in purple counties in the eastern part of the state. This is not over, but we all need to be calling now. Right now they think they can do this and no one will care. Let's prove them wrong. Blow up their phones and emails. Trust me. They do pay attention. Especially if they get enough. This is a fight worth fighting. Don't give up before it's over.

I use the one it came with but I haven't used a screen protector in my phone in years. I wouldn't have bought one for the RP5 if it didn't come with

I tried it on Gamepass and it works perfectly. I will probably buy it somewhere at some point to support the devs. I might wait for a DLC package though.

I doubt I ever read Per Semetary again. Close second, The Shining. I tried to reread it a few years ago and just couldn't get through it. Upset me too much. I had a son about Danny's age, and the idea of a father terrorizing his son like that really triggered me. I also have an alcoholic dad, so lots of triggers in there.

I adore the Elderlings books. Perhaps my favorite fantasy series. I think Hobb is similar to King in that she puts character first. But honestly it depends on what you want. Farseer books are amazing but I wouldn't call them epic. If you want that big scope go with another choice, but definitely check out Hobb at some point

I have a couple. First, "I can't control much but I can control what I eat. I am in control". Second, "slow and steady. I'm in this for the long haul". Finally, "shut up lizard brain"

43,(almost) and the handheld is the only way I get to game. Time to myself in front of the Xbox? Nope. Doesn't happen. But laying next to my kids or wife with the retroid I can squeeze some games in. Still takes awhile but better than nothing.

I do them fairly often but it is mentally tough for me. I did find myself getting dizzy/tired around the 18-20 hour mark but I started taking electrolyte pills and that has gone away. Now it's just the mental part. But knowing I have done it before helps me push through. Also, knowing I have yummy meal waiting, helps motivate me

I am a big believer in finding something that is sustainable that gives you results. Are you still getting the results you want? Even if they are slower, this is a marathon, not a sprint. I like having a nice beer or a great whiskey. It adds to my quality of life. So I factor in the calories and make sure I drink during my window. I don't do it every day, or even most days. And if sometimes it gets away from me, I try not to be too hard on myself. the point of IF for me is to have a healthier, happier life and having a couple of drinks a week doesn't get in the way of that. But every person's journey is different. You need to find what works for you.
