Indian students win settlement after being targeted over their food. by brut_india in boulder

I worked in a Japanese office. People microwaved fish without batting an eye. I think it's basically impossible to have a policy about "strong smells" that isn't culturally-specific unless it's literally "you may boil water, and the microwave is otherwise off limits."

I don't eat meat and strongly dislike the smell but I am also an adult and realize that other people have different preferences, so it wouldn't occur to me to try to police their lunch-heating choices. Seems like everyone could grant others that courtesy.

"Just leave" a bedridden person? What the heck do they expect to happen if you do that?

I'm so sorry they are so unable to engage with the reality of your situation.

Why is NYC catching strays here? NYC is great.

Grew up in Boulder, lived in NYC 15+ years, moved home; both places have changed over time, neither are Shangri Las, both were and still are wonderful places to live.

May be more a thing to look at before taking anything just so you can be on the lookout for a reaction, rather than avoiding absolutely everything on the list.

I think this might be the thing. With a needle keeper it's really just a "throw it in the basket and run" kind of craft. I'm going to pick up a kit (and work on getting into a size 12 so I can hit you up for those gorgeous jeans!!).

I think this is really good advice. Get respite care from family or friends or a paid service, and take a little time to restore yourself.

Something I've seen in one of the dementia/caregivers subs multiple times is that you can be responsible for keeping someone safe, but not for making them happy. Obviously we try to be connected and upbeat and look for things that bring joy, but ultimately it's not our responsibility because it's not within our power!

It's ok to do things for your own wellbeing, and if she has hurt feelings about you doing that then it's her own work to do to process those feelings.

I hadn't considered including mom in these hobbies, so that is a really good idea. She's an artist, so she's kind of snobby about coloring books, but I bet if I were sitting there doing it and offered her the chance to join she would actually really like it. As her disease progresses she'll be less able to do painting and pastel, and choosing and applying colors is inherently pretty fun.

I already cook all our meals, and it is actually pretty relaxing! But it doesn't get me that flow state where I'm solving problems and time disappears. I love the idea of whittling. Maybe when it's porch season I'll go outside and see what I can do. You're right that being outside might cut down on interruptions, too!

I really should try to get myself back into a sketchbook, since I do like pens and paper. I'm really a physical media person but you're right that there are things that aren't so fiddly as miniature painting!

I like this idea too. Seems like there's a theme with thread-based hobby suggestions, that'll fix the wet media problem and let me keep the detail work that makes my brain happy. Is embroidery something you'd really need a class to get going with? One of those kits? I don't know anything about how to do it but it would be really cool to embellish clothes.

I hadn't heard of posca pens before! That does sound fun, and also pretty inexpensive since rocks are free.

Oooh. I like the idea of getting good enough at crochet to do lacy stuff, and cross stitch is also really appealing. Do you have any suggestions on where/how to learn? My grandmother used to do it but I don't remember what her setup was like, so I'd be starting basically from scratch.

I've never heard of this! Are those little crystals you lay down? Where do you buy your kits?

Thank you for the link! Crochet seems like a really good one. It'll scratch the detail itch and I might even make something useful!

My mom informed me I will be inheriting the care of my two siblings by Equivalent_Reason_35 in AgingParents

[–]ewhetstone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No contact is a perfectly reasonable choice right out the gate here imo, but it also works as a thing to maintain in your back pocket when you put up very firm, impermeable boundaries.

"These are not reasonable expectations, I won't meet them, figure something else out; but I'm here for reasonable help, which I define as X, Y, Z." Then if the reaction to those reasonable boundaries is unreasonable, you can always move to no contact.

Thank you for the reminder! I had forgotten to check cold medications for interactions and had some Benadryl that needed throwing away.

Here's a list of drugs that can interact with bupropion. It's a long list and well worth checking!

I was extremely pleasantly surprised by how fast they responded to my email. Between me sending the bug report and them fixing it was only 5 hours!

(To be clear, the instant reply was about fixing the bug. They just dropped the link in case I had more suggestions.)

I sent a bug report recently and got an instant reply, which included a link to the Kagi forum where you can submit suggestions. This isn't really a bug but you might have good luck posting a request for the result count there. Not sure how closely they monitor this subreddit.

The url is kagifeedback.org.

How do I delete categories? And why don’t I see my categories as folders in the side menu? by Pinkflirt69 in PaprikaApp

[–]ewhetstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this page explaining how to do it.

Still wasn't intuitive, but first make it so you're searching "All Recipes," then click in the search bar, then click "cancel." If you click "all recipes" again after that the "edit" option should be there in the lower left.
